  1. June 2022. About to buy Acer Aspire A315-23-R69S for 12K baht.

Has Windows 11 installed already but am worried about new problems as currently on free Windows 10 .....any advice about Windows 11 problems much appreciated as I'm low -tech.

  2. Funnily enough I was in Hua Hin Market Village yesterday 27/6/22  & walked into DTAC open office by chance ..complained bitterly of 15yrs of 2-4 texts every day & threatened them with immediate cancellation if they did not block ALL texts & suprisingly she ranr up BKK call centre & they agreed to block ! Having said that just got 1 yesterday in Thai as usual but hopefully confirming total block...so there you go people !

  3. After 20 years of living here I too have zero Thai friends despite prolonged effort across several major cities all with a Thai wife beside me.

I have always fornd that sad as I have always prided myself on being adaptable & open having spent a good deal of my life travelling across this great world of ours.

Not just Thais but also Farang too-so guess I'm too crusty for anyone now .....where's Tonto when you need him?!

I cook a lot here (always did) and am happy with most things I make.

I agree cheese is a waste of money here, I unfortunately only have the choice of Makro/BigC etc and they are 3 hours from me. I really miss the Cheese Shops from back home in the UK, there was a wonderful one in Edinburgh when I lived there. I'd be happy to pay more for real cheese like Stilton. Never seen it here.

Thai food is far from bland but if I was to eat many of the wifes dishes, I fear I could easily self-combust one day.

The most bland food I had in SE Asia was Cambodian food, was there 5 years and after the first year trying most things decided almost every dish was bland and very similar. Fortunately many good Western places in Siem Reap.

As siscussed moat Makro stock Mainland brand tasty, mature & vintage -all excellent cheeses -also other varieties like stilton, brie, camembaert in fact most European favorites however maybe yours does not as they vary according to number of Farang shop there.

500gm of Mainland Tasty @ 265bht from Makro does the job.

(for some reason Makro put a 470gm sticker over the 500gm label)

Mainland Mature & Vintage versions were also available until a few months ago & after several complaints still only Tasty available.

Try Villa Market -Cathedral City mature & extra mature...more than 250gms I think at 250 baht -absolutely superb !

  6. Samui Head of Immugration was perhaps still is the most corrupt IMO in Thailand. When I was living there a lot of ex-pats under the guiidance of ex Brit army Consulate wrote official complaint about him..he owned huge land & property boh on the island & off it...acted like no-one including Thai Gov could go against him....

Shortly after c 2010 he was transferred ...only to return a couple of years later ...still controlling corruption on Samui....is he still doing that ?

If it p_sses anyone else off as I'm sure it does most, post #Me Too! here. Let's get some people power going here and let them know we're p_ssed off!

How do we instigate that -I'm up for it but where do we voice our disapproval ? Any ideas ...I complained once before a couple of weeks ago & owner said click top RHS delete sign....no use .

What were the things missing ? As I said above, I couldn't see anything missing or in short supply.

Noticed Cheddar cheeses all out in Hua Hin day before yesterday.

  9. Recently retired vastly experienced hospital & drug rehab worker seeks full time [with possible live in option] care nurse employment.

This lady has served patients with love, respect & dedication for decades & believes it is her God given gift & one she wants to carry on.

So if any family is out there that needs someone to take care of their disabled, sick, elderly, drug addict or child please contact me & I will filter out replies & then pass on to her ok.Many thanks.

Maybe not in the OP's case but I think the service at Hua Hin immigration has improved massively in the past year or so.

They got rid of a few of the old officers who were just plain nasty at times and replaced them with actual human beings to are helpful provide a good service.

Apart from current Head of HH Immigration-classic arrogant Thai in uniform-obsessed with his power.
