  1. If you are in a hurry to get home then take a taxi.

If you have spent the night drinking then be wise enough to keep your mouth shut.

Raising your voice and giving orders to a bus driver is not going to get you home any quicker anywhere in the world.

The Irishman didn't deserve to get bashed but he certainly created the situation.

"If you are in a hurry to get home then take a taxi."

I haven't been to Pattaya for a year or two, do they now have metered taxis operating alongside the baht buses?

If you are in a hurry, or carrying a big parcel or need to get to the hospital in an emergency, be prepared to be ripped off.

The predators in the transport system have no mercy.

  2. If he ranted and raved at the driver but didn't offer him extra money to take him to his specific destination, then he is completely in the wrong. Hopefully he will see the error of his ways. In Thailand , a good rule is jai yen yen

Agreed. Bashing someone if the face is the best way to settle a dispute.

Especially if you are Thai and know a gang of countryman will make a 100 yard dash to come join you to get a few good kicks in.

A friend in the airline biz says the flights out of Israel have the most items pocketed. Cutlery, salt and pepper shakers, stuff like that.

  4. Strange.

Very strange to find somebody vigorously defending Thai Police.

Especially in this case when the island Headmans brother and son were caught on CCTV.

The brother was even arrested & the son escaped the island & ran off to Bangkok. (The Headman and Police Commissioner even confirmed this)

Later the Headman and the Police Commissioner and said the son was in Bangkok the entire time.

    Mysteriously, they were let go.

Then the Police fingered 2 foreigners, Burmese, poured gasoline on them and threatened to burn them alive unless they confessed.

There is a very good reason the United Nations have called the Thai Police organized criminals.

  5. They could start the cleanup in Jomtien by getting rid of the company that has the garbage collection contract.

    What a mismanaged fiasco.

Yesterday walking along the beach between Soi 1 and 7, I saw at least 25 overflowing, stinky, putrid dumpsters. Been like that for years too.

The stinky, putrid, garbage dumpsters don't often get picked up. It saves them money...

The lazy/greedy garbage company just drops off more stinky, putrid dumpsters that get filled to overflowing...then even more gets stacked on the street. The street dogs then tear it to shreds at night.

Makes me gag. I read similar reports on Trip Advisor. Nice, eh?

A country with millions of unskilled, cheap laborers and they can't even manage to pick up garbage?

What a joke the city manager is...Obviously lining his pockets with money allocated to basic city services...

At least the rats and city officials are happy.

  6. The Irish man is 54!

Must have had a hard life.

As for the Irishman got angry who knows what really happened but those drivers will bash u for nothing.

A lot of songtaews are owned by police as are many of the bars so you have no chance in Pattaya against the locals.

" A lot of songtaews are owned by police "

    that figures rolleyes.gif

    from the article..................

" Police contacted the Pattaya Baht Bus Cooperative after a search for the Baht Bus was unsuccessful. "giggle.gif

Yep. Another scamming enterprise supported by Thai Police. Whats new?

A few years ago, a fellow I know driving a SUV with his family on board had a minor incident with a baht bus.

Bumped the guys mirror, no damage.

The taxi driver of course sees an opportunity to scam him or go violent so my friend raced off and went directly to Soi 9 and parked at the police station.

He was followed by the lowlife Thai taxi scammer. The Thai taxi scammer then bashed in his windshield, right in the police station parking lot!

The scummy Thai police didn't seem to notice.

  7. A year or so ago, a lady friend that works in a restaurant along Beach Rd. told me the jet ski guys were told to lay off westerners and target Arabs and Indians.

Apparently the jet ski scammers now employ translators that are on standby. These scoundrels act as a seasoned tourist, stumbling across a fellow countryman in trouble, offering advice to pay pay pay.
