If you planned to live in LOS, and now are stamping your feet over something that at the mo is in the wind, perhaps you are better off following your money protection thing, but where the ........dot's.......... seem to be lining up wherever you go, in our modern high-tech world..........????
There are/will be countries that appreciate the economic benefits of attracting people who contribute to the economy.

TIT.
I have abandoned my plan to buy the new BMW 5 series (approximately 3,6 million Baht, including about 1,6 million directly injected to Thailand's state coffers in form of total import fees). Plus VAT.
Instead I am contemplating selling my new Ford Raptor (V6 400hp) and my 1 year old 1100 cc Honda big bike (only to a Farang who can pay me outside of Thai banking system).
Next step: Finding another more appreciating/ welcoming country to live in.
Who looses? Thailand or me?
Cheers

i've driven dozen of times between 2005 and 2018 with my Thai car, had it over there for 10 months in 2008/09 when i lived/worked in PP
Voa $30, visa online $36 but does save a page in ur passport
DONT drive at night
take off ur front plate so they cant tell ur driving a thai car ( u will be stopped less)
Tint on front windows is illegal
my Thai license was accepted 50% kf the times i was stopped ( about 6 times total) even thou any ASEAN license is valid fines are usually between $5-20
driving in Cambodia is very stressful so dont do long ( over 6 hour) trips

I have worked and lived in Thailand for 18 years now as a digital nomad. I like Thailand for a number of reasons, but the last 5-6-7 years have given me more and more reasons to dislike Thailand.
Blatant discrimination on so many dimensions as a farang, ever increasing nightmare dealing with immigration/labour/revenue beaurocrats and having to witness and accept the endemic corruption at all levels. (I could go on).
This latest " tax attack" is the last straw.
Pigs will fly and it will snow in Bangkok before I pay 1 (f....ng) satang in tax to Thailand.
I am lucky, I am free as a bird. But I feel sorry for Farangs that are stuck here, and I feel sorry for the Thai people, who are also stuck.
Cheers

I feel relieved.
After reading every single post, 48 pages now, I feel so relaxed and happy.
I have been working, and living in Thailand, the last 18 years on a Work Permit (WP).
The last 4-5 years have been increasingly difficult regarding renewal of the WP. Without any forwarning at all, I have been asked for new documents and new requirements.
Not to mention the nightmare is is dealing with the officers of immigration, labour and revenue (none of whom speak understandable English.. - maybe 1 in a 100).
And also their very condescending attitude and behaviour towards me (white, older farang).
This, in addition to all the ways we get ripped off and discriminated in this country, I have decided that enough is enough, no more if this.
This is my final year full time in Thailand, I will stay maximum 180 days a year.
I am already looking forward to a new adventure. Really, really, looking forward to it :-).
I guess I am lucky, being single and working online and not having established any binding commitments to this country (to be honest, that has been a smart choice ever since my first week in Thailand at the beginning of the century, when my then Thai girlfriend, sided with the motor cycle taxi guy even if he tried to rip me (us) off triple the going rate)
Cheers
(side note: I will probably qualify for the LTR-Visa, but considering my experience with this country (and as stated in numerous posts), you cannot be sure of anything, any other that they will try screw the farang in any way possible)

This might sound like a stupid thought/question, but since this new tax rule comes into effect 1st January, 2024 (only three months from now) could it be possible that they will demand tax returns from all of us already in 2024 and consequently that we have to pay tax under the new rules for all income for the year we are in: 2023?

Many Chinese want their money to leave China due to problems with banks there. Perhaps they heard about that in Thai government and want to cash in on it.
That could be the case. I agree.

According to a fb post the BOI now appears to have confirmed that for LTR visa holders foreign earnings regardless of their remittance remain tax-free:
Question: "????????????, ???????????? ???????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????????????? ????????????????????????????????? That is really what is supposed to be taxed based on the new tax law changes, regardless of the time it is brought into Thailand. Please kindly also comment on this for LTR visa holders."
Answer BOI: "We would like to address that for the LTR tax benefits: the revenue department has already announced a royal decree to exempt the LTR- Wealthy Global/ Wealthy Pension/ Work from Thailand from paying the income tax derived from oversea business/ work and assets."
This decree could of course also be changed, but for now LTR visa holders appear to be safe.
So it remains to be seen how the situation will be with 1) Elite visa holders, 2) retirement / marriage visa holders.Wow!!! Thanks a million @K2938. This is potentially great news! ???? (barring any U-turns)

I can see that their is tax exemptions for the LTR Visas (thats by Royal decree 743), I am yet to prove Thailand Elite Visas share the same benefit, so far they haven't managed to give me a Yes / No answer to that simple question.
Can anyone confirm that the LTR-visa gives you 0 tax under this new announcement? I doubt this is the case...

Yes, but the thing is, the Chinese are coming, and in big numbers. 5 years from now, the Chinese will have bought all available condos (anything to get out of Xi's China). Thaksin is half Chinese, as are most of the Thailand elite. Chinese are welcome, people with white skin from developed democratic nations, are not. We are the Thai elites worst enemy, indusing democratic thoughts into our Thai spouses, girlfriends, lovers, friends.

Really? In my country rapists are sentenced to a decade or more in a high security prison. Ever been in one? They are subject to frequent anal rape. Are you still going with your rather extreme and bizarre statement? Unhappy, are we? You need some perspective.
Check the reporting requirements of convicted criminals in your home country..

I'm very happy with this sensible decision and have a strong feeling that the good sense will be echoed by the appeals court. I would have thought that this was force majeure coming right after the 1997 financial meltdown in Asia.
What?? I wish you the best of luck if you ever try to do business in Thailand as a foreigner. Have you read the Thai minister's comment about the verdict? "Congratulations all Thais"
What a country!

Is that how it works in your home country?
Yes, that's how it works in my home country Norway. Google it. You obviously don't know much about civilized nations.

Do you seriously think that happens in any developed country?
Of course it doesn’t. You pay taxes when you become tax resident in a country and it gives you none of the benefits that simply being a citizen of that country would give.
give it a break with the being a victim syndrome will you.
Bull<deleted>, try coming to Norway, you get better welfare rights than citizens, before you quickly become a citizen yourself .

Same with the Norwegian Crown :-0
Side note: Considering the appalling treatment we Farangs are subject to in this land of fake smiles (think 90 days reporting, notify police/immigration every single day you are out of your registered province, double pricing, rip offs, beuraucratic hell), I have already decided: I am out of here if I have to pay a single Baht in tax. We are treated worse than hard-line criminals/rapist's are in my home country.

I agree with member "Bannork": Know when to fight your battles.
MFP should wait on delicate issues until they have warmed up - mabye in a year or two. Then Thailand can dream of having a national day like we have in Norway. Celebrating our 200 year constitution (1814) with children processions the main focus of the day, not military parades.

About time. I hear many GRAB delivery bikes in my area with modified exhaust. Wish the GRAB company would require the delivery drivers use NON-modified vehicles.
I hear about 10- 20 % of vehicles with modified exhaust over all. The police should follow the law and get them off the public streets, destroy them forever, and fine the drivers 50,000 B.
Why anyone would advertise via loud exhaust they are insecure in their manhood, ( small penis), is beyond reason.
I have a big penis, but thats beside the point. On a 1100cc motorcycle, the louder the noise, the more safety for me and everyone else on the road. This is a fact.
