  1. starbucks and Micky D charge for the internet, which I think is just plain cheek and stingy,

it costs them nothing for WiFi and neither are cheap for the time you get

Internet access with a wired connection I can understand

What I cant understand is Wifi so expensive in thailand, its free in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia (just spent quite a bit of time travelling through themIts not even highly advertised where Wifi is availible in any place, hotels, clubs, pubs

  2. We started off from Hammersmith in April, got to Calais, all across europe, then Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India, Nepal, couldnt get into Tibet, so into China, Vietnam, Laos, now we are in Cambodia, on our way to Thailand in the morning

I have a blog on the go, it has all the countries and cities we have visited

We have bush camped, stayed in hostels, we had a bus/truck, but as we couldnt get into Tibet, it had to turn back, so we have used public trains, buses, planes to get around (not all fun)

We have seen a lot of great things, but it hasnt been a bed of roses, we had people leave, gone down with various ailments, we started off with 24, now down to 18,(I think)

I guess we are all back packers now we need a break from each other, now

We are due to arrrive in Australia in October

    my blog is at ............

wow. Quite the trip. That's an awful long time to be with a bunch of people in one vehicle. I'm too much of an independent traveler for that.

But congrats! Trip of a lifetime.

Except if you do it twice, then its a twice in a lifetime

(to be honest, I wouldnt recommend it, no choice of travelling companions, places you visit, or where you stay, time you spend in one place)

  4. nope no transport

I'm with a gtroup of 20 people, travelling to Australia overland

I just want so time away from the rest of them (been with them since April) I need a bit of space away from them

We have been staying in some pretty crappy hostels (and I reckon that will continue) so while they are off doing the culture thing, I wanted a bit of sun and chill out and to get away from their stupid talk

(I used to come to Thailand with the wife, but she is working and still at home)

But now I got just a pension this is the only way I can get to see the world, (oh for the days with a paycheck)

    Thaks for all the recommendations

  5. Is that per night ?

What do they have there ?

Thanks for the reply, its appreciated

Anyone got anything for a couple of nights in Bangkok, before I get to Pattaya ?

Is it worth getting a bus (or even possible) to Pattaya from Bankok or a taxi ?

  6. Its been quite sometime since I been in Pattaya, things look like they have changed quite a bit

So any recommendations on a decent cheap hotel ?

Dont want a link to a website, something that you have stayed at and would recommend

I am with a group of 20 people on route to Australia, I am grabbing this chance to get away from them for a few days

    So any recommendations are appreciated

  7. Hi everyone, been a long time since I been to Pattaya, but now i'm coming back, not with the wife this time, but a truck load of back packers on their way to Australia

there are 22 in all, various ages, but mainly Brits, an Aussie and a Canadian girl, i'm breaking away from them, they are off somewhere else for their time in Thailand (plus I need a break from them)

I need to find a hostel, can anyone help out please, I have always stayed at a hotel when I was with the wife, now I am on a limited budget, so it has to be somewhere cheap (but clean and secure

I know all you greapt people here have always helped out in the past and I hope you will carry on

    thanks

  11. Are you a member of any Internet Forums?

Which Category do you fall into ??

    The Alpha Male -

So called because he believes he is always right, his opinions are those that matter the most, and woe betide anyone that disagrees with any of those views. You will be shot down in a ball of flames and then ignored for the rest of your time on a message board by the hareem of female followers Mr Alpha Male has picked up during his time here. We all know Mr A has no life thus he has to be the king of his own domain, and a message board gives him that role. Pity him. Someone has to.

    The Alpha Female -

She knows everyone and everything. Enough said.

    The Lurker -

Lurkers are unavoidable. They register, never post a thing.

They look and read and observe. They can often been seen lurking in parks on hot days with sunglasses and a rainmac on, easily spotted and easily dealt with if found to be plagiarising any board content. If this is you. POST GOD DAMMIT.

    The Flamer -

The person that makes those little comments that suddenly turn the whole community into a village of pitchfork wielding mobhunters, threatening to chop off any and allextremities, and can be found huddledin MSN and corners, whispering, HOW DARE THEY COME HERE. Of course, the flamer is sat behind his/her desk, smirking away that their job is done for the day. A sad existance, examples of these creatures can be found running countries.

    The Manic Poster -

Easily spotted, they usually have the highest post count. No further explanation needed.

    The Shy Poster -

Makes a few posts here and there, apologises for everything they say or do or post. Can been seen hanging around the general area, mooching in the leftovers of the flame war, trying to find a backbone.

    The Bad Speller -

There is always one. These creatures will either be loved by everyone or bullied because of their lack of grammar and punctuation, newbies who spell badly can sometimes be targeted by the Alpha Female. Just call her a batch. It will confuse her for a while and keep her from cybering Mr A for 15 minutes.

    The Stupid One -

All forums have a user that is thicker than the thighs on a russian female shotputter from Leningrad. Can be found posting in the help section, or making posts such as:- "I dont get it". These

creatures often end up as lurkers, mainly because they can't understand what the hel_l anyone is talking about.

    The Know-It-All -

Yes, those people, who despite being raised by dwarves in a cave, because of course they have lived in a cave and know dwarves, can be seen posting about every experience, saying "oh I had that happen" or " I have a friend who did this" etc. For someone so knowledgable, it never fails to baffle as to why they cannot find the off-switch on their PC and discover the real world.

    The Newbie/Oldie -

As with some communities, old members who havemade a total ass of themselves in previous posts, go away, re-invent their whole persona, and re-register. They can be easily spotted as these poor delusional creatures will slip up and make reference to something they shouldn't know anything about, but miracles of miracles. They do.

    The Newbie -

Depending on the person, a newbie will make a few posts here and there. It also depends on the age of your forum, the older the forum, the harder it is to fit in with the "crowd!" no doubt you will be vetted by the alpha male and female, and once deemed cool and sexy, you will fit in just fine.

    The Oldie -

Here from the beginning of the boards, a stalwart member, never goes anywhere else, will defend the forum until they are gasping their last consonant and vowel. These people will remember everything, find posts referencing these events, and point out how it used to be "different" in their day. To find these creatures, just make a post on how boring it is, and you will bring them out and everyone else for that matter. Not advisable to newbies, do not make your first post and say how boring it is. You may well find yourself tipped upside down and disposed of in the delete can.

    The Bullet Loader -

These are creatures that don't have the balls to say something about someone, so they plant the bullet in others minds, usually via PM or MSN and sit back and watch as the gun is shot by someone else.

    The Letch -

Easily noticable hanging around users pictures and drooling on them. Purchasing a mop and bucket while setting up a forum is advisable.

    The GoodLooking One -

Just go to the picture forum and find the thread with the most posts and most views. This is generally where you will find the picture of the said Goodlooking one.

    The Helper -

Easily spotted clinging to a new users undercarriage, offering what help and assistance they can, and often giving out advice.

These creatures are not staff as a rule. But can be mistaken for one, just double-check the staffing list, and thank the helper, and then go out and buy some pile cream. That will ease the problem in no time.

    The Staff -

All message boards have staff. Depending on the owner of the board, these can be true members who show professionlism at all times, or are best buddies of the Site Owner and can get away with whatever they like. It is easy to distinguish between the two different types. Always stay calm and never allow yourself to be wound up by Staff. This is a sure-fire way to being warned or removed completely. A good rule of thumb is if you are warned, the staff are doing a good job.

Most forum owners do not like banning.

    The Owner -

Last but not least. A good site owner will have a sense of humour, get involved with the community, control the above examples of users in such a way that some may not recognise that flaming and bullet loading go on. Most site owners can be identified by the bags under the eyes, the constant white foaming at the mouth, the unsociable hours posts. Keeping and running a community is hard work and requires a great deal of patience and effort. Remember to thank your community leader

often. They carry toffees in their pockets and are usually called Dave. :whistling::rolleyes::rolleyes:

  12. I dont suppose the TB to the UK£ has a lot to do with it

Anyone who geta UK pension has seen it halve over the past few years, I daresay they cant spend as much as they used to

I reckon that works for tourists as well, they need to take twice as much as they used to

Hotel prices arent any cheaper (or any better)

There are better value places in other parts of Asia (when I say better value, I mean a better exchange rate)

Not sure of beer prices, but assume it is 100 TB for a bottle, that equates to 2 quid, compared to a short time ago when it was 80Tb to the UK£, just over a quid for a beer

Hence people arent coming over (apart from Russians and Indians) I dont know what the Thais would prefer, but where ever I go, lately, its loudmouth, drunk Russians, they have no idea of manners, queing or simple politeness

If I was to visit TLOS now, it would cost me a lot more, hotel, flight and spending money (I estimated I usually spend a grand when I come over, meals, beer, entertainment (non of the female kind, I bring my wife)

Now I would have to bring 2 grand, I can get better value <better exchange rate> (and probably the same weather) in Egypt, Malasia,The US,Dominican Republiic (I only mention them, because these are the places I have been rather than TLOS over the past 2-3 years)

At the end of the day, no matter where you are, you need people to buy whatever you are selling, (food, beer, hotel room, ice cream,) if the people arent there, you cant sell it to them, so you pay the rent for a while rfrom your own pocket in the hope that things will pick up, then when they dont, you either shut up shop and move on or keep putting your money into the business (and hope that your money lasts)

    Thats my tuppence worth :)

  13. Okay, my previous post was deleted, but hey ho such is life

I can agree with GM, its great to have a hog and be able to cruise on beach road, its very nice to chat to the stall girls, I dont think its actually stalking them though

Just giving his opinion of his views of Thai girls,

I have to agree with his point though, but not some of the other replies,

I dont think anyone actually knows him and its rather unfair to make assumptions on his sanity, you can say he is a bit biased and a fruit loop, even racist with his remarks

That is supposed to be the whole point of TV, to start a lively discussion, but not get personal about it

  14. Up untill a few year's ago they were still pumping raw sewage into the sea. TIT

They still do, :D that building at the entrance to walking street is a sewage pumping station, it is supposed to pump treated sewage out to sea and it is supposed to be a mile long, but I'm not sure it is, sometimes you get it coming back into the beach

The 'chopper' pumps grind up the solids into a slurry, then its pumped out to sea :)

1 consalation is, the best crabs/shrimp/prawns/lobster :D and fish feed at the outlet, no matter what country they are in

  15. the description of one of the mangers posted by Pepsi leaves me with doubt as to who he is referring to and using google you should easily find a more colourful description of his antics and temperament, also covered on TV a few years ago.

Thanks for that information, I tried a googlre for the above, couldnt find anything can you be a bit more specific, please

The 'darkside' is an option I hadnt considered, how do I get any further info ?

  16. Google Map :)

What about Renting a House on the Darkside Pepsi, some Good deals around.

    DARK SIDE ????

    Where is that ?

    Any more info, please

  17. And the reasons you stated above don't make muh sense, they are not timeshares and i have no idea how there was a farang manager there.Just because you stayed in a dirty room does not mean all rooms there are Dirty. Here is some pics of one of my rooms in Vt2,Look dirty to you? .

    1272873541067642100.jpg

    1272873857038767400.jpg

Yep, very nice, but View Talay isnt an option

It may not be timeshare now, but I ended up in one, and its no point in argueing, I know where I stayed, but regardless, I'm not interested in any thing View Talay related
