Hi McFarang, i need a Notarial Services Attorney in Rawai. Any chance you could tell me where the three in Rawai are? Google isn't being much help!

Bear in mind that (as mentioned upthread) any Thai police officer can certify a signature and act as a witness. The problem is that most of them don't know that they can do it and are nervous about putting their John Hancock on stuff.

Notary Publics are usually only certified for the jurisdiction in which they practice (I stand to be corrected on this), so depending on the type of document you will probably actually need a "certified correct translation" stamp or similar from a registered translation business with signature of the translator and company stamp, you can get that endorsed by any lawyer if you wish but they charge like a raging bull for doing it and it's not really worth it in most cases. There are a few such businesses on Phuket.

    HTH.

  2. I've got a hard cover on the back of my Dmax and the latch is a bit of a pain to open.

They always complain that it is locked, when I bawl that it isn't they futz around for about 10 seconds and then wave me through.

I certainly have a more relaxing shopping experience knowing that my security is well cared for by such dedicated and vigilant professionals.

Yes, if only they could be as efficient as security screeners in the west! One could really feel secure then.

The US homeland security secretary, Jeh Johnson, has ordered improved security at airports and reassigned the top Transportation Security Administration official to another role after reports that screenings failed to detect mock explosives and weapons in 95% of tests carried out by undercover agents.

Airport screeners, who are employed by the Transportation Security Administration, did not detect banned weapons in 67 of 70 tests at dozens of airports, ABC News reported, citing officials briefed on a report by homeland security’s inspector general.

    Nice strawman.

What does the incompetence of the TSA have to do with Central Festival?

  4. We hope to push our city to the next level and generate creative tourism in the Patong area.

Having a seafood festival in an area, on a beach, that sells seafood every night of the year doesn't strike me as very creative.

"Seafood Festival" ... Remember to buy Imodium and stock up toiletpaper ...

If the sales teams at the various hospitals had some nounce they'd have "All-you-can-keep-down Imodium Buffet and 2-for-1 Dysentery/Cholera Testing Week" at the same time as the seafood fest! licklips.gif

  5. Look what happened to Patong with Pian as the elected Mayor.

Were things really that much worse in Patong when Pian was running the show?

At least when Pian was around if your hapless tourist survived the ordeal by tuk-tuk and somehow made it to the beach he could reliably expect to be able to get a chair, an umbrella or even *gasp* a beer and something to eat to ease his troubled mind and brace himself for the return trip to his accommodation.

Now he can't even expect those mundane things without further having to decipher the impenetrable zoning regulations or explaining himself to a wandering squad of armed military personnel.

I don't like defending Pian but at least he seemed to grasp that a tourist destination without tourists isn't a destination for much longer either.

  6. Don't quite understand why the truck driver is getting blamed - if he was falling asleep at the wheel and decided to pull over for a nap then that is better than reading another story about a truck slamming into somebody.

If the samlor (which legally shouldn't be on the road in the first place although that is by the by) can't manage to avoid a huge parked truck then it isn't the truck driver's fault. Who's to say the samlor driver didn't fall asleep?

  7. Sir....Either your ignorance as to what constitutes an R.T.P. Liaison Officer (comprised of volunteer ex-pats) is showing or you are just being offensive! The expat police volunteers are in a formal relationship with the Royal Thai Police as R.T.P. Liaison Officers, In addition to being readily available to answer the many questions which the foreign visitor may have, fulfill a very important function in that they act as a liaison between non-Thai speaking "foreigners" and the Thai RTP officers, usually as a result of the said "foreigner" more often than not being in an inebriated state and having done something that, without the aid of the Volunteer, could easily result in the "offender" spending the night in a Thai jail, not a pleasant place at all!! They are not "cowboys" or "wannabees" and have been carefully screened before being accepted as a Liaison Officer. Many are retired police officers with extensive service in their home country and have a desire to GIVE something to both the country in which they have chosen to reside and to the visiting tourists or any other non-Thai speaking person who is in need of help. "Playing Hardy Boys"...such a frivolous and undeserved comment! In this case, from the reports provided, the volunteer was doing precisely what he or she is expected to do, no more and no less. Drunks are one thing...a common item to be found on Bangla Road and are treated with respect by the volunteers. There is absolutely no indication or suggestion that this officer was acting in any way inappropriately, (S)he witnessed the infractions and, informing them as to the nature of their transgression, ASKED them to move on, as is the volunteer's job to do. Drunken thugs out to pick a fight are fortunately a rarity...most people, drunk or sober are out for a good time..good meaning happy! Not, as was the case with these thugs, a group of drunken low-lifes who are a disgrace to themselves and their country of origin. They constitute a disruptive and hazardous presence, a presence which runs counter to the safety and well-being of those decent folks who deserve the protection of both the Thai RTP officers and the Volunteers who donate their time and efforts to make it a safer place.....even for people such as yourself who deride what most decent people would find commendable.

I wonder how many of these angels of mercy, selflessly giving their time to the community in order to smooth the path of the hapless tourist would continue their mission of humble yet heroic service if their orgnisation were to become an adjunct of the Tourism Authority rather than the RTP, the uniform was a sarong and flower garlands were the only equipment they were allowed to brandish?

From the job description you provide there is nothing which would prevent them from carrying out the exact same functions under the arm of the TAT...

  8. I would appreciate if you could recommend a good gynecologist in Phuket.

    Define "good".

If you mean enthusiastic, cheap, a dab hand a googling anything and willing to supply his own tools then I may, errm... know just the man for the job!

  9. He can't help you much with that. You have to go in person to BKK (twice). Check out the embassy website

Only 1 trip to BKK required now, collection of the new passport can be delegated if you give somebody a letter authorising them to collect on your behalf. I did it myself this past January.

  10. "full face helmet found near the body" tells me one of two things. 1) He had the helmet sitting on the tank, or hanging from the handlebars and wasn't wearing it. 2) He had it on, but didn't fasten the strap, so that it came off during the impact. Either way, sad way to go.

    You forgot,

    3) His head was still in it but the 'reporter' didn't think that was worth mentioning.

Given the standard of reporting here scenario 3 is just a likely as the others.

  11. I have one but it is fixed forward, I always thought it would be nice to have one that swivels so that it can be turned toward the side window in case of an argument whistling.gif

Or towards the passenger seat, where the person who claims to have directions to our destination sits.

That could come in handy as evidence in my 'not guilty by reason of insanity' plea. crazy.gif

  12. I bought mine online from Lazada,

Another vote for Lazada here. I bought one for ~600 baht and it's been fine, does exactly what it says on the box.

The little booth with all the car lights and waxes etc at Lotus Thalang near the food courts and Dairy Queen had the exact same model and brand and when I asked the price she looked me straight in the eye and said 2,800 Baht because I was getting a special discount.

I thanked her sweetly and told her I was glad I'd bought mine from Lazada for 600 - she looked like she would garotte me! tongue.png

  13. A motorbike battery will work, but they aren't designed for deep discharge and so the plates can degrade faster than a battery designed for a UPS, not a problem unless you regularly drain the batteries completely though.

Best bet is a bettery designed for a jet-ski or the like. They are pricey but you'll see improvement in the time that the unit can power your devices if you calibrate properly after installing.

There is an excellent open-source bit of software that allows you to see and control all sorts of aspects of an APC UPS. I have only used the Mac variant and one built from source code for Linux so I can't say the the Windows version is as good, but it probably is.
