Farangs can’t vote in Thailand so are we exempt?

Color me stupid but I don’t get any of this. I’m on a marriage visa and heretofore I’ve just shown my income stream which is more than adequate. Now the rules have changed and the embassy no longer provides the income verification letter. So,

I have put 400K in the bank (required for the marriage visa extension). Really stupid because I was earning 7% in the U S and virtually nothing here. 

And here we go! We have owned a nice home here for 14 years filled with artwork and a life’s possessions and my wife who is Thai has a good job earning a very excellent salary but none of that counts. My assets in the US are considerable but again, they don’t care. They could declare me persona-non-grata tomorrow and I would have to leave everything behind including my Thai family who I provide for.

This entire immigrant system makes no sense whatsoever.

I’m not so sure about the validity of any of these comments but I do know it’s quite normal to fart 28 times a day!

Went to a business get together last night attended by GMs of various 5 star hotels. To a man they said it was killing revenues but they don’t want to get shut down by Prayut’s storm troopers. Oh well, what’s a few billion baht in tourist revenue. These are the same people who can’t enforce a helmet law but God help you if you sell a Singh at the Hilton!

I just checked with the Hyatt Regency and Marriott in Hua Hin. NO alcohol on Friday and Saturday even in their restaurants! Great for business—junta’s off the rails!

Amen to Scorecard. I was in Saigon recently and I jokingly said to my buddy “I’ll give you 20baht for every person you see not wearing a helmet.” He didn’t make one baht off of me but if I’d made the same bet here I’d be off to the poor house. Corrupt police and no enforcement so there you go. I love this place but bottom line it’s a lawless society, top to bottom.

From day 1, anybody caught without helmet, driver or passenger and the bike was immediately confiscated

never to be seen again and no  discussion whatever.

 

It worked and the idea was broadly supported by Vietnamese society.

I’m sure that you can verify this by a little sleuthing but in my experience Bull’s are not at all exclusively nocturnal. Accounts of numerous attacks by Bulls along the Florida coasts (East & West) and the coasts of other Gulf states during daytime are well documented.

In the High Sierra Mountains of California there is a spectacular area known as Desolation Valley aka Desolation Wilderness. As a youngster I would hike and fish there, sometimes one could go for a week and not see another human being. It was heaven on earth. Then came the “discovery” and the wilderness became a highway of hikers and their trash. Finally, the U S Forest Service instituted quotas and required permits for entry as well as specific quotas for certain areas and lakes within the the wilderness. Yes, it’s a bit cumbersome but well worth the effort and would probably work in Thailand as well.

Hua Hin Immigration says 6 months.

We pray they stay away from Hua Hin. They’re all yours Pattaya.

Some states in the US had this system and it was total failure so they went back to a market system. Choices had gone down prices went up, tourism killed, surly staff. You name it.
