  1. Thanks for the replies.

I went to a dealer to look more closely at the options, and would have to agree that the MSX would be best suited for an around town bike, but it does look like it would be the most fun and easiest for that (with the possible exception of a Wave-like unit, but I believe I'd go MSX between the two).

But! I saw the CBR 150- which seems like a lot more bike for just a little more $$- just under 80k for the MSX, just over 80k for the CBR150.

Then! I saw the CB300 F- which looks like even more fun! That's as big as they have in stock at the dealership I was at in Rayong. CB 300 goes about 133k.

All prices are OTD, OTR, 2 year's insurance. Dealer would add 3% for using a debit card (no Thai bank account).

At the moment the Company I work for is providing a driver, so whatever bike would be just for fun, and I would lean towards the MSX or CBR 150 for that. But I have put in a proposal to the Company (Capital "C" Completely facetious) that they just give me the money and I'll drive myself around. If they accept, CB300 might be a good choice, or perhaps I'll move up even more. I'm leaning towards new instead of used due to reported issues with transfer of paperwork- I'm a green pea here and don't want no hassles.

Apologies for the thread drift- I thought that I'd update on the progress.

  2. Thinking about buying a bike. I've got two in the states, a VFR 800 and DR 650, and spend a lot of time commuting, touring, sport riding, and track days.

But here I'm considering a smaller, more around town bike. I'm working so much I won't have time to do much or any touring, and a small bike seems easier for day to day trips around Rayong.

My question is, if I enjoy going around corners (even at intersections) and getting good lean angles, dragging foot pegs, etc., am I better off with an MSX (small, fatter wheel and tire) or a Wave (larger wheel diameter, skinnier tire), or something in between like a PCX?

I would tend to thing that the bigger, narrower wheel would be more fun in this weight and engine size, but the MSX is so popular, maybe it would be more fun.

Can someone who's ridden both give me the benefit of their opinion?

Standard disclaimers of course regarding visibility, safety, etc, and that I really shouldn't be going fast through intersections, sand on the road, I know I know- I've lived through years of splitting lanes in Bay Area traffic so I'm not a complete dunce or maniac, but still, you have to get your fun where you can right?

    Thanks for any help!

  3. I called the Bangkok Rayong Hospital and speaking only English was connected to the dental clinic. I described my problem and requested the first available appointment, which was made for January 1 at 1 pm (I think that I called on Dec. 30).

Upon arrival for my appointment my information was taken and I was issued a laminated ID card. Everything was very clean, modern, spacious, and professional.

I was seen quickly, an x-ray taken, and the dentist with his assistant trimmed a badly fitting crown and prescribed an antibiotic. I was sort of done and they were finishing up when I asked if I could schedule a cleaning. I went back in the chair and the dentist himself did the cleaning using an ultrasonic cleaner followed by polishing. He did not use the hand scraper, but I didn't ask about that.

In all, the dentist and the assistant worked on me for almost an hour. With x-ray and antibiotic total cost 2500 THB.

Fully satisfied customer, and I would recommend them.

Very positive first encounter with healthcare in the LOS!!

    Thanks for the help.

  4. As a newbie here I am just discovering the joys of the BG. It is sort of interesting, as I have been using a hybrid system for years, by making the paper wet either from a faucet if available or from the bowl (after flushing clean water into it of course) if not. So I'm already primed so to speak.

But I would like to..ahem... drill down into the specifics a bit more. We've heard from front sprayers, back sprayers, spray shooting up, spray shooting down, hand assist, no hand assist..... really, isn't there a best practices manual available?

How does spraying down work? More hand action? And I am having a bit of trouble with some of these specifics. I just figured out to remain seated, sealing most of the seat, after having sprayed water further than I'd like.

So how about it- any consensus on proper use?

  5. There's a reason they call these 'faiths'.

    Thread drift alert-

    Is Buddhism a "Faith"?

I don't believe that it is in the west, at least not as practiced by most westerners in the west. The practice consists mostly of meditation, with some instruction- at least in places like Spirit Rock (Vipassana), which is what I am familiar with.

Yet there seems to be another way of Buddhism, that does involve prayer and is more Church-like: that is, asking a higher power for intervention in some way, either through granting strength, influencing outcome, or whatever.

Are there two branches of Buddhism, one largely direct and more of a philosophy or practice than a religion, and one that takes place in a more Faith based access through the Monk or Spiritual Leader form?

  6. Being in no position to tell anyone about anything, don't listen to a word I say.

What is it? "Seek not to become Buddha, seek what Buddha sought".

It isn't unless it is, it doesn't unless it does, all the same thing, just different sides or views of it.

My favorite aspect of Buddhism is that it (in my unqualified view) has no requirement of faith: it is not "if that, then this", cause and effect. If you're striving for a result it will retreat as fast as you can run. You could say it comes to you but it's already here.

I Love how you can't talk about this without it being nonsensical!

  7. Noob here with no real say, but nonetheless- the members of this forum (some of them anyway) are in such support of a bland and conforming appearance that they are willing to crucify a guy because he chooses to look different? If you don't look like me then you deserve what you get?

    Harsh.
