  1. I do not know anyone else around here that has a CBR, so maybe you can answer a couple of queries?

1: The first thing when comparing this bike to the Honda MSX is that as soon as I turn the ignition to the "ON" position and the bike comes alive - the headlight beam is switched on - The Honda MSX is a better system, the beam does not come on until the engine has fired up. Is there some switch faulty on the CBR or do all CBR's do this?

2: Sidestand Switch - Well my CBR does not seem to have one, it is mentioned in the manual but I have checked and there is no electrical connection there at all, it does have a clutch switch which prevents you from starting the engine in gear with clutch released. Again, anyone got a Thai CBR that does have the sidestand switch.

I believe that mine is a 2012 ABS, it was registered end of 2011, but carries the 2012 fuel stickers on the tank.

    Any ideas?

(Not that I want a sidestand switch as I would hate for the engine to cut out in a corner if it decided to go "faulty" as I have seen on some BMW's)

  2. The usual way is to start the new client downloading, then stop the download.

Copy the completed files over the newly started download files, then force recheck.

When you re-start the download the client should do all the moving as if it had just completed the download.

Crossy you are a bloody gem mate!

I have been on for hours trying to get it to Force Recheck etc. all to no avail - tried what you said and it works like a treat, Thanks a lot.

  3. Saw the Quo at Burton Agnes a few weeks ago. There is plenty of life in the old Dog of Two Head yet. Can't say that I could imagine Motörhead playing Bangkok, but hey - Sodom did and released a live album...

Jesus, they were old when I was young 30 years ago, next you will be telling me AC/DC are still around!

Actually, Brian Johnson Wor Geordie's lost his liggie - )

used to be in a band when I was about 16, he used to play in our local boozer, The Towneley Arms, some of the Gill Mob will remember the location. Whitesnake, White Spirit, also played there, sadly closed these days and turned into pensioner flats.

Eric Burdon used to pick up his girlfriend in a Caddilac 2 doors down from where my mother lived in Heworth Gateshead way back in the early '60's. Memories and stories.

Yes they are. Don't be talking to me about shitesnake, mind..

Ha Ha, You look like an old bastard too, great music, great times.! I never liked Whitesnake., they used to have a few bands that were much better but never made it - Punnilkux?

  5. If you can get over to Switzerland he's playing at an open air concert in Nyon, about 30 minutes drive from Geneva on the 24th!!

Otherwise, yoo toob have lots of concerts to watch from the privacy of your own living room. Without the sweaty pushing and shoving that happen at most concerts.

Myself, i'm going to see Simply Red in November. At a sit down concert. Inside.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope things work out for you eventually.

Why don't the Quo come over here? Mrs baboon can't get enough of them and reckons they would make a killing in Thailand..

The Quo would need to be wheeled on stage these days! Probably easier to get a stuffed Buddy Holly or a mounted version of Lynard Skynard. But where are the older progressive bands like the Violent Femmes, don't these people tour Asia? Is it left down to Linkin Park and Michael Buble or Michael Sucks The Cock?

Seriously though, there are not enough decent bands playing in Asia. (Probably because the Asians prefer their homogenous, asexual teen bands) You do however have to give them credit for supporting their own music, not many countries would ever put up with listening to some of the garbage they listen too.

    And talking about classics-

The kids today have no appreciation of quality!

When I was younger I used to travel thousands of miles (REALLY) to listen to bands like the Stranglers (Hugh Cornwell days) Iggy Pop, The Beautiful South, Motorhead, The Jam, The Violent Femmes, The Pogues, there is nothing in Asia that comes close to warranting a 500 mile trip to Bangkok - Robbie Williams was one of the last of the "Performers" at the very end of my generation - as I said before, he is a big fag and not my choice as a must see, but probably an interesting watch.

What made all of this worse - i.e Ticket refund for the Stones in Shanghai due to bloody SARS, Robbie Williams refund in Bangkok was the fact I was working in Shanghai again in 2013 and took my son over for a month and the first Sunday he was there Peter Hook and the Light were playing across in PuXi - A complete evening of Joy Division, and my son refused to go as it was advertised as 18+ and he was only 13 at the time. So missed out on another classic.

Come to think of it I would even travel down to Bangkok to see that idiot Vegan Retard Morrisey if he promised to sing ------- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUvM6NpALEQ But I hate the guy to be honest, but his songs are classics. Vegan idiot.

  6. I just spliced a wire to the headlight. Easy

I just get paranoid poking around with the original wiring - it is so neatly sealed! Besides, I fitted my headlight out with an Osram Nightbreaker Plus which takes it from 35W/35W to 55W/65W, so I really don't want to risk losing my headlight at night, especially if it came down to a bad connection on a USB. I would hate to lose the ability to singe and scar the retinas of the ignorant Thai bastards that drive with their hi beam on all the time. Unfortunately, I don't think the CBR can handle the Nightbreaker Unlimited 100/110W

  7. Buy Dynabeads from Chiangrai Saddlebgs and ditch the lead weights.

I saw Dynabeads recently and at first I thought they might be the ideal answer, until I saw this video on Youtube!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdlA9BSDF_8

They began to clog on the tyre inside walls and made a real mess!

As a couple of posters have said, no vibration, then I am leaving well alone. Cheers.

    Thanks for the video link.

It illustrates that even a good thing can be <deleted>-up given sufficient stupidity.

The principal behind the beads is pretty smart, but in reality, especially here in Thailand you would just need water or some junk in an air hose to contaminate the inner walls of your tyre. I myself would have ruined Dynabeads, I use an old fridge compressor at a push to inflate the tyres. The thing is, the compressor can suddenly and unknowingly spurt out some oil. (Yes, I have stopped using it) maybe it would be just as good to throw a dozen marbles into the tyre? Same principal, just a bit heavier.

  8. Thanks for checking that out. So no need to ever change the speedometer if you are worried about speed accuracy once you roughly how much it is off by.

I wonder though if that 10km difference, which is also about a 5-6mph difference, is the same at all speeds? Perhaps the gap widens or lessens depending on how fast you are going. Did you test it at various speeds?

I'm wondering if you were going only 5km in actual speed if the speedometer on the bike would read as much as 15km for example.

Taken from my Garmin Nuvi 255W, your speed error increases the faster you go compared to your speedo indication, i.e. it is not a linear thing.

  9. I must admit I changed the sprockets on my old XLR and found an improvement, however I would be very reluctant to change the front sprocket on the CBR, I would have preferred to change the rear sprocket if anything.

One thing I would say that will make a difference to your acceleration if that is what you are looking for is to change your rear tyre from the 140/70/17 to 150/60/17, it definitely gives it a bit more oomph, without over stressing the output shaft.

Mine can get 154KMH even with this tyre - but you have to lie on the tank looking like an idiot. - probably get 158 without a wind.

  10. I wouldn't even bother with the Vehicle registration place. Just look for those places on the side of the road "Tor Or Roh" - they do the Thai equivalent of an MOT and flog insurance. Just take it in there - it doesn't matter how old it is, they will do all the work for about 120 Baht and you just go back a day or two later and collect your tax disc and free towel and a couple of glasses.

They are supposed to be for cars over 7 years and bikes over a certain age but they do not care at all they will do the tax and compulsory insurance on a 1 year old bike. Saves queuing up at the terrible DMV offices.

  11. Why is it taking 2-3 months for the transfer? Can be done same day!

What bike is it? Is it actually legally registered at the moment?

No one gets their Greenbook, with their name in it, the same day, unless things have really changed. Took me 7 weeks to get my Greenbook back with my name in it.
It's a second hand bike that's being transferred!

    Can be done same day!

Agree, if all the papers are in order it is a straight forward process. (The small provincial offices that I have used never do it the same day, but they check all the documents and only give you a receipt if everything is 100% in order)

Normally the last two transfers that I did were done on day one in the afternoon and the Green Book was ready morning of day 3.

If it is a new bike I can understand the hassle in some cases but both of the 2nd hand bikes that I bought were originally registered to Niyom Panich the original dealer in the first place, so it is a new bike as it has never been driven, but as far as the Green Book is concerned, you would be the 2nd owner, again making the transfer simple.

  12. im in ciangmai

If you are in Chiang Mai take it to Tony's Big Bikes, ask for Pikey. Seriously these guys are pretty good, up front and dead honest, they are not the cheapest but their work is top notch. They gave my old XLR a good going over and solved a lot of issues with clutch, valves etc.

Sounds to me (I don't know the bike you refer to) like it might be the idle jet is dirty, clogged or something if it is a carb. bike rather than EFI.

Here is the link, it will cost you nothing to take a look and check them out.

  13. I have just fitted a combined 12V (Cigarette type socket) with 5V U.S.B Socket to my bike handlebars and wanted to be sure that there were no issues with the way I wired it.

I know it would be better to have the entire socket isolated and switched off when I remove the key, however, I did not want to go and splice or fiddle with any of the existing wiring.

I have connected the +ve and -ve of the main 12V supply to the battery terminals and ran the wiring attached to the frame under the fairings. I fitted a 3 Amp fuse in line with the +ve terminal.

Do you think this is sufficient? It has protection but is still live with the bike key removed, the only other thing I was thinking of doing is fitting a toggle switch somewhere close to the battery so I could isolate it, is it worth doing or not?

    Cheers.

  14. I have been a member of a private torrent site for many years now, sadly, they are banning the use of my current client - Tixati.

The only option I have is to use uTorrent, however, I cannot seem to be able to transfer all of my current trackers to the new client.

My directory structure may be the problem not sure - Currently Tixati is set up to start saving new torrents to F:\Downloading, then once the torrent has completed it is set to move the completed folders to F:\Videos. All of the tracker (.torrent) files are located in F:\Trackers.

I have set up uTorrent exactly the same and tried double clicking a .torrent file which uTorrent loads but then starts redownloading.

I have tried "force recheck etc. but nothing seems to work, there are literally hundreds of torrents that I need to get back into seeding mode.

Anyone managed to get this to work, anyone give me a step by step help?

I have managed to reload seeds previously when I used to use uTorrent, I remember it was a bit fiddly, but I cannot remember all of the steps and I have never transferred torrents from one client to another.

    Thanks in advance!

  15. Need some help in understanding this. The crane comes into contact with insulated wiring, so how was the current transferred to the crane? There is lots of give in those cables, they're not taut, so it would not be easy, I assume, for the crane to make a cut in them.

All of the medium / high voltage around my place has no insulation, 33kV (I take it you are referring to the PVC insulation on 240V type cord)- pretty normal really.

  16. Completely stupid rule, why cant they just inforce the fact that you must be over 18 to buy alcohol, and heavily fine anyone breaking the rule. This means students will ride their bikes EVEN more dangerously to get out of the 300 mtr zone. We had government officials come into my restaurant yesterday and tell me to run my alcohol stock down as we are inside the 300 metre zone of a tech college, in Chaiyaphum. I measured it yesterday and i make it 327 metres. If anyone can recommend a good lawyer i would like to know please.

    Exactly!

A simple refusal to serve if they don't show I.D. That is all that is needed. They would be better off banning those sweet stalls, Coke and Fanta stalls, and the grubby geasy fry up stalls that set up right outside the school gates, ripping off the kids with a cup full of ice and 5ml of Coke for 10 Baht.

But as is sadly the case with this arrogant fool, the lunatics have yet again taken over the asylum.

  17. After the driest year one could imagine, the most amazing turnaround has happened. Our mountain in Phetchabun has had 10 inches of rain in the last week. Every single night it has dumped rain.

Whish it would happen here. I look forward to not having to water the back garden for several months, can last ten days at a push. Still watering it.

BUT! Where will all of this water end up? It will be run off, totally wasted due to the incompetence of the idiots in charge here. They simply have no idea, they rely on the monsoon every year, this year it is not coming! But this year is not the problem, just wait until next April, that is when the shit will really hit the fan. Sadly the government does not want to or is too stupid to look past the end of its big fat stupid noses!

Next year it will be dire hear for rice, farmers etc!

  18. "Meteorological Department"

    a.k.a. Ministry of We-Don't-Know-Jack-Shit (Thainess/experts!)

Not only Thailand, spend millions in Australia just to get it wrong about 85% of the time.

The difference is with Aus, they spent millions to prepare, and if the time comes again they will have the ability to desalinate water to supply, Thailand on the other hand just wastes billions og gallons every year. They whinge and whine when it floods, drain off the dams, then whinge and whine when there is a drought!

Do not compare Australia to this 3rd world dump!

They haven't got a clue here.

  19. The first time I hired a car (a jeep in Phuket) I picked it up and it ran out of fuel at the end of the street.

I have loaned my pick up to my wife's relatives many times, in good faith, it usually comes back with enough fuel to almost get to the nearest pit stop, it often comes back with the 4 wheel drive engaged, God only knows why. I would never do that, if I borrow a car I make sure to fill it up when I am finished, the least I can do.

I did however have one positive moment hiring a car here from North Wheels (They rent out private cars from people that are not using them)

I hired a Mazda Pickup and some sod broke the nearside flasher with a trolley at Tesco, I had to hand the car back at CM Airport late at night and probably could have gotten away with it by saying nothing.

However, I told and showed the hire guy the damage, which was supposed to incur something like 2500 Baht charge.

They phoned the Thai owner, he came out looked at the damage and phoned a friend, (Thanked me for being honest) he waived the 2K Charge and said 500 Baht would cover it!

    amazed!

There are good and bad everywhere, and I am not picking on Thais, but I have never in 16 years ever got into a Thai vehicle that has a full tank! The first thing they do if you need to travel more than 5KM is look for a fuel stop. I used to fly back from China regularly and pick up a taxi at CM airport, my place is about 40km out, the first thing the taxi does is look for gas! The tanks are running on fumes.

  20. What is all the fuss about? Thailand doesn't need rain, as the Dear General has already said - GROW WEEDS!

  21. Toyota Thailand announced that is supplying all new Toyota Fortunas for the Thai market with a regional specific fuel gauge.

A spokesman for Toyota said that Toyota recognized local practices and adapts their vehicles to that demography.

    post-228437-0-01407800-1437476486_thumb.

Don't know how many out there ever lend a Thai a car, but not once in 12 years has it ever come back with the same amount of fuel that it left in, and no, it never came back with more!

  22. Cheers Crossy,

The Facebook garbage, for instance, if I open up multiple tabs for multiple topics, EVERY single page keeps going green as soon as you move the cursor towards the close button (Top right Win 8.1 Explorer 11)

The classified page is like a race, as soon as you click classifieds, you have to race to click on the category before that damn "Subscribe" comes up.

Surely if it uses cookies then it should be smart enough to know I am already subscribed?

And what about this Elite Card advert turning up as if it is a genuine TV News Update? Just Spam!

It really is bloody annoying, it was never like this a few years back. It is just getting worse. I am surprised no one else has mentioned how it pisses them off!

    Here endeth todays gripe!

  23. Does anyone know how to block the now almost constant JUNK that keeps popping up on this site?

It was bad enough before with the "SUBSCRIBE TO NEWSLETTER" that popped up everytime you accessed the Classifieds, even though I am subscribed ALREADY to the damn newsletter!

Now though, every single page starts turning green and asking for Facebook likes or something. Terrible!

Then today, a supposed "Newsletter" article flashes up as an e mail, about 5 year visas, it turns out it is a SPAM advert for the Elite Card!

This site is turning into a junkmail and malware site.
