  1. i would be proud to help some one, Hoping the favor would be returned one day, If nobody starts the ball rolling how can things get better.

Good on you ... but do you really think a Thai would come to your rescue?

"Do good then throw it into the sea"- I think you understand meaning..I really try don't expect something back for my good deeds. But have to agree it would be nicerolleyes.gif .

  2. private medical care is the only problem here, when one is old. However one needs to put money to one side just in case

I solve this problem by another way..Just married with doctor in one of the best hospital of Thailand!

What was the Sinsod if you don't mind me asking.

Don't mind. 0 baht. She has her own nice big house with huge backyard and not bad job. So...Yes, some money were shown at wedding. But her Mom everything give back.Oh,forget.. And I bought some gold! Gold didn't come back to merolleyes.gif

  3. since many years allready, i think it is time to pack and go....i am just waiting to get my investment back and i'll live for sure.

thailand dont offer at all that kind of life they always try to sell to us.

here it is only a matter of money! nothing else....as a foreigner you are a farang or whatever they want to call you depending where you are from...a walking wallet who has a reason to be here only if you can afford it.

    sorry for the bad news!coffee1.gif

It's really bad news that you're leaving...Or is it just bad news for you?

  4. The more educated one is, in this case regarding living in Thailand as a foreigner, the more realistic one's expectations will be.

For me the most detrimental aspect of it (I don't think 'deterrent to living in Thailand' really works!) is the lack of pubs selling draught ale.

Thanks a lot! Now I know for sure I'm very good educated personbiggrin.png ! Because I never considered Thailand to be a paradise. Just very nice and beautiful country for living in. And I knew that it will be not easy to get some cheese and freshly brewed beer here.So..No deterrents!

  5. To nongai. I agree with you totally. I don't have too many issues at all with living in Thailand, certainly none of the dot points in the survey questionnaire. The visa requirements and extensions are a pain, I am sure they could overhaul and streamline the process. One thing that does puzzle me is the fact that farang on marriage or retirement extensions are not allowed to work in any way including mentoring. Everyone in my village wants me to help their kids with learning to speak English. I am told I cannot do this, even if I did this for free. I cannot assist my neighbour to fix his fence, fix his car or any other skills I have.

If you really live in village you can do all these things.I mean teaching and helping. Nobody cares. I know this for surerolleyes.gif. But I guess officially it is illegal . One of your students have to be a son of local policemanbiggrin.png. Don't take it wrong. I agree with your post and understand it.

  6. "Medvedev said, "We try to behave in a civilised way."

Putin says he was ready to go to nuclear weapons to gain annexation of the Crimea.

Putin invades two sovern nations Ukraine and Georgia for territory.

Putin uses Russian military and supplies pro-Russian insurgents in Ukraine to continue its expansionist.

Putin threatens to invade eastern European nations for wanting to join the EU and NATO.

If Russian foreign policy is the behavior of a civilized nation, democracy in Europe and Asia is on a one-way street to a deadend.

Maybe you should read something different than propaganda.

I don't want to start an Ukraine discussion here, but what you write is either complete wrong or out of context.

Ahh yes, things were better when Russia controlled East Germany, right?

Longing for the good old days when those "immigrants" weren't allowed in and the Stasi kept order with children spying on their parents etc. are we?

Russia never controlled East Germany. It was the Soviet Union, which got attacked by Germany and controlled by Stalin who was from Georgia not Russia.

Beside that, I have 2 East German friends, one they got twice trying to cross to West Germany, the third time he crossed successful from Hungary to Austria but useless as than the DDR collapsed.

Both when looking back, see advantages but not as huge as we may believe in the West. More luxury items, yes, but on the other hand, less security and harder work.

His words: "Before we could vote for 1 idiot, now we have the choice between several idiots".

But Russia is not communist anymore, Soviet ALLOWED all the countries and areas to split away peaceful with only one condition that the won't get NATO members and put troops close to the border.

I guess nobody from western countries know about this agreement... or just prefer to forget.

  7. Having moved here, in Thailand, 2 years ago I bought 3 Yamaha Fino. Never had any problems. And sometimes I ride about 300 km in day(but not very often). Honda Click- good choice for Bangkok. But riding it in hills/mountains is not very funny if you are big guy. I'm 95kg+45kg of my wife..And with 115cc my Fino is able to make only 50 km/h when we climbing.Think about changing it for PCX. Can't buy something more powerful because of my wife hating my style of riding."You drive like a crazy farangs and muslims in Pattaya!" .

If you've got a regular passenger OR you're a big guy...PCX. With the LED lights, it's a safer vehicle. Clicks are fast and a fun bike, but the PCX is a luxurious bike and a bargain here in Thailand.

I've got a video review on YouTube from here in Phuket. It's got like 100,000 views. I would have put some effort into it if I knew people were going to see it.

    https://youtu.be/fqXk1rpQpS4

I considered the PCX, because I've heard it's the most stable ride for a scooter, but a friend of mine told me that it's too big and heavy for a first time beginning learner like me, And, I'm not a big guy.

If you're beginner and not a big guy I totally agree with your friend.

  8. make sure you have the correct licence and insurance, that will pay out when you end up in hospital, and no collections to have you repatriated.

other than that new Honda Moove, or the click 125cc

Yes, I will get a license and insurance. That actually brings up another topic, (maybe I should start a new thread for it.)

The website for the drivers test (sorry, I can't find the link now to post it), states that there are 30 questions, and you have to get 23 of them correct to pass, they also have an example test that you can take. I got 25 correct. I went to the training, (or whatever they call it), all Thai's, I was the only farang. 4 hours of Thai's speaking, and pictures and videos on a screen, all in Thai, I don't speak Thai, so I didn't learn anything.

They gave us booklets, about 50 pages, all in Thai. In the booklet, they have the 100 questions, and some of them will be on the test, I asked if they have the booklet in English. They said they have it at a different motor vehicles location, but they only have one copy, and I am not allowed to make a copy of it. Also, they said that the test has changed, it's now 50 questions, and you have to get 45 of them correct to pass. I doubt I can do that, if I can't get a copy of the questions so that I can prepare for it.

1 year ago it took about 2 hours for me to get licence. Exam was a joke. Yes, it was 30 questions and I never learnt about traffic rules and signs. They told me I get 27 correct. But for some reasons they refused to tell me where I was right and where wrongfacepalm.gif. To be more confident get some whiskey before examrolleyes.gif !

  10. I am a 19 yr. resident of Thailand. I use a factor of 0.285 when comparing prices here with my home country,Canada. Or, expressed the other way, prices there are 3.5x Thai prices. I think for someone from London, you could probably use a factor of 0.2 to 0.25. Think about health insurance costs, if you will need to buy that here.

what you on , I can live for a 1000baht a week easy, but i can live Thai, it depends on what you want out of life try moving after you have your Visas sorted out, Then try living in-Thailand first, Thats what most people do then they get an idea on what they want out of Thailand.

dO YOU MEAN 1,000 BAHT A DAY??????

NOBODY, can live in 4000 baht a month

I'm 95 kg bodybuilder. So I eat a lot of pork/chicken/vegs/fruits. I don't drink. And I pay for my food about 4.000baht per months.

  11. I know that the Russians who bought up a lot of property here 4 or 5 years back will be rubbing their hands now. If they cash in their chips now they will double their money. That's what i would be doing considering the only reason all this is happening is purely down to political sanctions and oil prices. When these sanctions are lifted the currency will return to stability.

They could just have kept their money in USD and still double it...

It's exactly that the most of Russians do.They don't believe Russians banks.

  12. Must be one of those many selective Thai laws, I see countless Thai men ride up on motorcycles etc, walk into the local shops without shirts on. Well it is a bit rural here.

Living in rural village near Laos. Never saw Thai men riding motorcycles without T-shirt. And "countless Thai men", not just one! Don't believe you.

Well we obviously frequent different areas. In the village I have spent time in it is rare to see thai men wear shirts at all unless visiting the Wat.

Knowing how much Thais are afraid of Sun I just don't believe you. " Only mad dog and farang can go out at midday sun"

  14. Hitlers flavour of national socialism promote human abuse, discrimination, persecution and killing of people that isnt identified to belong to the nations profile. Communism no matter flavour is against human nature since humans like competing by accumulating possesions and money.

You're absolutely right about Communism...But it was such a good idea.

Only the theory of it.. in practice it never worked ..

I know..Because I'm Russian! But I remember when I was young I truly believed that one day all people in the world will be like brothers..O.k., now I grow up and change my mind.

  16. Both grandfathers of my Swedish-Finnish friend joined SS only to fight the Russians. But parading as a SS-Nazi or Nazi today is a disgrace.

Trust the Russian news agency to distort it. The day is considered a commemoration day for the people who died for their country at WWII.

You will not see any people in SS uniforms nor glorification of Nazis in this parade. Mostly just old people who leave some flowers at the Freedom Monument. As some here have explained already, most of these troops were forcefully mobilized with only a small percentage of volunteers. And many of them indeed perceived the German army as liberators. After all, it was Russia that invaded and occupied Latvia in 1940 and started mass deportations in 1941.

Don't forget that Russia forced the Latvians to speak only russian and until recently it was illegal to speak in their native tongue.

It was never illegal. But now it's illegal to speak Russian in Latvia. And for about 30% population of this country Russian is native language.

There is another pharmacy near around. Ask seller for price list. Don't believe people who tell that steroids is evil. It's medicine! And as every medicine it can be dangerous and helpful. I'm 44 and don't have any problems with health. Just use it very carefully. And don't use chip stuff from Pakistan/India. Only Germany and Switzerland.

  18. Not sure what all the fuss is about, they chose to fight against the occupying Soviets as they perceived the Nazis to be the lesser of two evils.

Being in the SS didn't automatically make a soldier a mass murderer.

I can imagine that the Russians where the bigger evil. About 90'000 Germans surrendered in Stalingrad and less then 6000 returned home eventually. For those who want to see a tough movie about war watch a movie called "BROTHERS". It must be about 3 years old now. Talk about reali

What about 20.000.000-30.000.000 Russians being killed in this war? Including 7.000.000-12.000.000 civilians? And who started this war? Stop to watch propagandistic movies and start to learn history!
