  1. Regarding your double entry visa, read this thread as it pertains to extensions:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/774846-double-entry-tourist-visa-extension/

Regarding will $30K Australian be enough to live on for one year: depends upon your lifestyle. That's what - roughly $800K thb or $67K/month? People live here on a lot less. (I've never been to Krabi so I can't comment on costs there....suspect it's a bit higher due to the beach locale.)

I agree 67,000 baht is quite a lot of money here even for 2 people. But from personal experience you will spend the most in the first 4-5 weeks trying to get yourself familiar with the life style so it's not a bad idea to stick to a budget in the time period.

You may be thinking of buying a motorbike for convenience which will save you money on baht buses and taxis etc. For that you'll need an IP (international Licence) saves paying traffic fines as they are much keener in the tourist spots.

Budget it well and you love the experience. Enjoy!

  2. There is no reason to spend 2 nights or even one night now. They are doing visas on the same day you apply. Apply by 11 am and get your passport back at 3:30 pm.

    That's great news!

I thought it was the "sign in before 12 noon and collect after 2pm the next day"

The only reason why I was thinking of 2 nights because I could not get there before 3pm so hence 2 nights required.

All I need is an extra 30 days so will this be OK get on the same day you think?

    Thanks in advance.

You won't get it on the same day when you arrive at 3 pm. You can apply for it until 11.30, sometimes until noon and pick your visa up in the afternoon.

Have you already applied for a 30 day visa at your local immigration?

I enter Thailand on a Non"O" visa 90 days single entry and I was advised previously on this site that they only do the 30 day extension on a tourist visa at the local immigration and I would after leave the country to obtain an additional visa.?

    Hence a trip to Savanakhet.

  4. I wonder who owns the Chotima Driving School......

If you are suspicious, I would suggest that you investigate and give us an answer, rather than an off the cuff accusation. If you don't investigate, then you really don't care. I think you would agree with this?

At least KarenBravo's comment got a "popular" star ...plus it's what everyone thought as soon as it was announced.

  5. What a great place to renew visa's or obtain advice.

Recently went to Mukdahan Immigration office for letter of residency although my home is in a different Jangwat I was welcomed with politeness and both officers on duty spoke good English.

The ticket machine for service was switched off and when I asked why "they smiled and said we never have queues" !

  6. On a single entry 90 day O-visa the LTD will only grant you another one year temporary dl. To get a 5 year dl you have to be on a long stay visa (O-multy, 12 months) or extension ( retirement, marriage). Also you will need a certificate of residency from immigration, they may or may not give to you on a Single entry O-visa.

I do honestly believe that there is nothing written "in stone" when dealing with the immigration authorities in Thailand.

I applied with a single entry 90 day "O" visa and even outside the Jangwat (county) where I live and obtained the letter of residency.

Simple service fee of 300 baht and done.

  7. I have a friend who recently got his renewed on a tourist visa I dont know if your supposed to be able to do it or not though, it seems to me its dependent on who's at the desk smile.png

I definitely agree with that after todays experience : took all the relevant paperwork in to the Immigration Office and all he wanted to see was my passport 2 photo's and my old Thai licence ..300 baht and happy days...in and out in less than 20 mins smile.png

Happy Happy days ....obtained my renewed licence today with a score of 45 out of 50 ..just got in with the minimum 95% pass rate required !!

  8. If the enter before date on your visa is February 15th that is the last day you can get a new 90 entry. After that it would be a visa exempt entry that would be 15 days at a border crossing unless you are from a G7 country.

I would make a trip out and back to get another 90 days before then.

Very true information quoted above: only met a guy in a similar situation and he was told the exact same advice from the Immigration Office in Mukdahan.

  10. Easy, go to your local Immigration Office... They all have an Information Counter...

Ask for a Extentin of Say form I believe it is a TM 7 form and also ask for list of requirements needed to accompany it to take to Immigration to get New Visa. It is in English and they have it already printed out. but it might be under their counter.

I have done for many years, I believe your fee is also 1,900 Baht. I know all the temp visa are this amount. Retirement Visa is also. You can get single entry or multiple entry stamps at same time. I believe they are 1,000 and 3,800 Baht also. Getting them at this time saves time if you leave Thailand for any reason.

(don't have to go to Office if for some reason you need to leave Kingdom for any unexpected reason. I have always carried a single entry for just this purpose. Some I had never used.... But it was just security! Understand?)

    Easy!

Thanks Guys ...when explained in a polite informative manner it is really appreciated ..!

  11. Only on a tourist visa and visa exempt entry is a 30 day extension possible.

You will have to apply for the 60 day extension based on having Thai wife, for which she will have to accompany you.

Confusing information given on this forum.

Just checked the consulate visa website in Liverpool and they state:

    Non-Immigrant Visa category ‘O’ (£50 single entry / £125 multiple entry)

This type of visa is for:-

    • People visiting family – i.e. men who are married to a Thai National, along with your visa application you must produce your marriage certificate and a translation of the certificate is required as evidence. A single entry visa is valid for 90 days and can be extended for a further 30 days.
  12. Hi

Savanakhet is a very unusual immigration office. Dealing with tourist visa's 60 day etc. is a piece of cake but on the 2 occasions I tried to get a non"O" married mans visa with all the relevant copies of the paperwork required they insisted my wife had to be present to sign copies of her ID and book for home in front of them !

Advice: take the wife with you.

Thanks for the tip. I will see if she can get off work on Monday and we can do the trip together.

Sent from my ASUS_T00I using Tapatalk 2

There have been many people get the non-o visa without their wife being with them. If the copies are signed and dated by your wife they will be accepted.

Perhaps the ones he had were not signed and dated or that was a long time ago.

Yes there may well be many husbands that have received their requested visa's without their wife's present but I am aware of an awful lot more who haven't even though they were duly dated and signed correctly.

Anyone with experience of Savanakhet consul would agree it is a little bit of a lottery there depending on who serves you on what day and how he feels.

Same Advice: Take the wife to be on the safe side

(incidentally it was last year when I last tried (not such a long time ago)

  13. Hi

My 5 year Thai licence expired in March last year (2556) my question is would a single entry 90 day non "O" visa be ok to get a new replacement licence? I have 30 year lease papers in Thai for my home also a UK valid IDP and medical certificate plus the expired Thai licence....should I meet any objections when applying for the replacement

My local office is Mukdahan if anyone has experience there that would help too.

  14. You can get a 60 day extension at Immigration. 1,900 baht.

Take Wife and Marriage certificate. Wife's ID, tabbien baan. Passport size photo

    Thanks for that info:

I was under the impression I could get an automatic 30 day extension by just turning up with the fee and my passport (like most of Thai wife's she always dreads appointments with officials in uniform) But if there is no alternative I will have to drag her screaming and under protest to the local office LOL
