  1. We knew before we came to Australia I was going to get sponsored and my wife was supposed to be included. All documents were in the migration agent's hands 8 weeks before visa expiry and she assured all was fine.

I knew she had a no further stay as I had applied for her visa in Thailand but didn't question her.

The migration agent stuffed up. She only found out about the clause when the system rejected my wife's application. Called us Friday afternoon had to be out by Sunday. You can imagine the drama that followed lol

Nothing much I can do about it but thanks for taking the time to reply.

  2. Did you speak to your agent about getting a waiver on the 8503 condition?

Anyway, there's nothing to stop your wife applying for another tourist visa.

Hi will thanks for your reply.

What grounds you reckon I can argue?

The migration agent was very apologetic about the whole incident and even returned the fees paid to her to my sponsor, for the distress caused. However, she seems certain that my wife will have to wait until the sponsorship visa is granted. She said there's not much she can do except to inform the department of our situation so they maybe speed up the process. But she didn't sound too optimistic.

I asked here about getting my wife a new visitor visa buy but she said if granted, it will still have the no further stay clause and she would still have to exit and enter Australia later on.

I'm going to Thailand over new year and coming back in January. And I want to try everything so I bring my wife back with me.

  3. Hi all, back on here looking for some insight.

I'm currently in Australia waiting for my 457 sponsorship visa to be processed. I was here on a visitor visa which automatically switched to a bridging visa.

My wife (Thai) was here with me but the migration agent missed the no further stay clause on her visa so she had to unexpectedly return to Thailand (2 days notice) so not to be on overstay and for her to be able to be part of my sponsored application as a spouse.

I have proved that I am in financial difficulties so I'm being allowed to work on my bridging visa but my wife has to wait for the visa to be granted until she can come back. This might take up to 3 months so you can imagine my wife's distress at being away so long from me.

Would she be able to apply for a visitor visa so she could come until the visa is granted?

    Hope my post makes sense.

    Thanks

The reputation of 'SOME' British tourists in mediterranean resorts is despicable perhaps..personally always been on my best behaviour whether living in Japan, Thailand or Spain...

I always found British people courteous and polite when visiting my country.

The chavs who frequent Ibiza, Ayia Napa and the rest give the whole British tourists a bad name.

In Thailand the rules truly are flexible. We all know you can't buy alcohol from 2-5 pm, but you walk into a 7/11 during this period, grab a beer and open it while you wait to pay, the staff is helpful enough to take ur money, but enter it in the cash register after 5 pm.

    Depends where.

i rushed my wife and her sister to hurry up with our weekly tesco shopping yesterday as there was only 10 mins left until two.

i arrived with two mins to spare and the cashier kindly scanned quickly my 2 boxes of Chang beer whilst joking about the time.  She was halfway through two trolleys full of stuff when out of nowhere this lady, a manager of some sorts, came and told her that the beer has to be cancelled.  I insisted   and the cashier confirmed that I arrived at 1.58 pm but she wouldnt have any of it...

Much to my wife's embarrassment, I proceeded to cancel everything - and walked out leaving the two trolleys full of meat, fish etc there.

not my finest moment, but couldn't help myself. If you want to be a c***, two can play at that game.

For Thailand i would be against liberating it, people here are allready very careless and relaxed/slow, ganja would stimulate that as well.

But if they allow it for medical use i bet soon they all have medical reasons to use it.

My thoughts lie with the reasoning that if it was more popular and widely available, teenagers would harmlessly experiment with ganja instead of the addictive devilish chemical man made creations

How do you figure this? It is grown on a mega scale in the US. Only will get more mega. Thailand only had an advantage when it was illegal in the States. It probably will be cheaper to import it. Takes a lot of water too. Thailand is kinda short on that.

<deleted>. Weather conditions in Thailand are much more friendly to the weed.

    Thailand short on water? Lol

Supply the world - Thailand is years behind the USA for quality Ganga. The states where Ganga is legal cannot compare.  Heck, Mexico is also looking at legalization and if that happens will most likely fill any void in sales if it can't already be produced in America.  It's almost like Thailand's high speed 3G-4G, still years behind others. It's like Thailand trying to sell this technology to other countries.  A little to late.. If Thailand expects to supply this, they better hurry to get working on perfecting and strengthening its product.

With no disrespect, from your post I deduce you're a drawling loud mouthed gum chewing cola drinking Texan :) I still say that nature in Thailand has the potential to grow some of the best weed .

The leap from legitimate medicinal use of Cannabis and its associated products, to  recreational use by some in here, exposes the selfish hedonistic demands of the uninformed.

Making comparisons with alcohol and tobacco is facile; there are dangers in every drug not prescribed by a competent medical practitioner.

Anecdotal and shrill advocates for legalizing recreational use of illegal substances need correction. Just because you promulgate  a pro-drug use stance doesn't make your opinion  worth anything

Dear lord, aren't we all prim and proper - is your last name Webster by any chance?

Which "illegal substances" exactly, does a god given creation contain??

Imagine the instant benefits for Thailand should they start cultivating it.  The revival of the 'Thai stick'

  11. Last October a 2 young German tourists were stung by a box jellyfish.  Sadly, one of them didn't make it.

iirc they had gone swimming evening or night time which obviously  makes seeing the jellyfish near impossible.

  12. Good to know. thank you sir for your contribution. Much appreciated!

Without going into detail, I'm leaving because of certain decisions made by the owners regarding management personnel.  Which in my view were totally unacceptable and made me doubt my own job security.

  13. Hi guys,

I’m going to the Labour Office to check tomorrow but I thought I’d start a topic here to see what other people think and writing also helps vent the frustration.

I’ve been employed by the same company 1 year 5 months as a (per work permit) head chef – to maintain standard of quality for food preparation and cooking.

It was a given from day one (although on my contract states – the normal working hours shall be 9 hours a day) that I would not be compensated for overtime which I was fine with..

The then GM informed us (all heads of departments) (verbally) that since we would be scheduled once a week to work as a Manager on Duty, each time we did we would be entitled 3 hours as overtime.  So every 3 times you get a day off in lieu.  I accumulated 16 days of such days off in lieu which I used earlier this year (forms signed and approved by HR and GM).

Last month I gave them my notice and my last working day is on the 20th this month.  Today I asked HR to clear all my pending days off, public holidays and vacations.  They went in detail through the time logs and informed me that since sometimes I took a 2 hour break on the days I was duty manager, I was not entitled to OT and so they will be deducting the days used from my other accrued holiday days.  Seriously??  Each time regardless of the break or no, hours worked were 12+

I just called a lawyer now to check and she told me that if I wanted to I can even ask for all the extra hours worked each and every day since day 1, which I don't want.  I only want what was promised to me and now appears to be retracted.

I’m off to the Labour office first thing in the morning to see what rights I have.

    Rant over

  14. Gave my resignation with notice and was accepted.

Last working day is on the 20th of this month.

Employer wants to pay my final salary on the 31st as this is normal company policy.

Do I have the right to request to be paid on my last working day?

I will be flying out of Thailand before the 31st and I want to make sure all monies are paid correctly before I leave.

    Thanks.

  15. http://www.thaiworkpermit.com/thai-work-permit-process.html

Oh ok. i was confused cause I had read on here that the work permit will be valid as long as your visa is valid, as in your passport.  So I assumed that it will be invalid since the visa is expired. Good to know.

regarding immigration, apparently the new boss of Samui immigration is a very strict by the book guy... Or so I heard.

    cheers for your help!
