Is 'air quality' the govt mentoring system ?  If so, it's been criticized before for 'inaccurate' to be kind, readings.  If i'm think of the same site.

The point is: look at the link and the daily or even hourly values. Do you really think that the AQI is nearly all the time the same? Of course it isn't.

Who ever operates the page or provides the data for Samui is doing something wrong. It is not the first time this site was posted here and again it is not usable.

Compare to other sites and you will find pretty quick that the values are changing most of the time depending on many factors. Being stable at one value is nearly impossible for Samui.

Please stop posting this link, it is not working at all.

It shows always the same values. 51/50 since weeks, nice. Or is it me and I'm doing something wrong?

I don't think so, just tried another browser.

Compare this with other pages, it is a no-brainer that this page is broken or the sensor is hidden in a compartment with always the same air quality.

Maybe it works for other cities, but not for Samui.

  3. Here is one montior i DON'T recommend, not working at all for me. I have it in my kitchen and even when I cook something there is no change while my air purifier detects the bad air and spins up.

    lazada.co.th/products/i4155851447-s16316882857.html

So it is basically a 1000 baht clock for me ...

Be careful, the other one posted @phetphet are sometimes in the same listing and you might end up with a <deleted>ty one.

Maybe you should read before you reply. This topic is about the OP, and the OP mainly lives in open air. He even stated this a few comments back in another topic but it is common sense for anyone on the islands, which the topic is also about. As I also wrote already: the air quality is down in this specific geo of thailand every time around this year up until around april / may. You can often hardly see samui from a beach like srithanu.

I can't read this at all from the OP and I commented on THIS post. I told on MY experience and that I agree that a dedicated monitor is maybe not what you want.

If people are actually serious about having health issues, but then being so ignorant to keep living in most of Thailand, I would say the south is the only acceptable escape location, not sure what to say of that. Measuring it and putting a few air filters around is not gonna help.

What you mention with KL is a joke, that is what most of Thailand and specially the north, gets to endure for weeks if not months a year. Depending on the direction of the wind, the burning from malaysia often also hits the south of Thailand for days or week(s). Not to mention the invisible pollution on phangan and samui from the garbage burning, that due to winds, can be a invisible killer too.

When I was in KL the AQI was 322, that was not a joke at all. I had to leave KL because I couldn't breath anymore and felt constantly pepper sprayed. Since I know the feeling I can compare it with Samui last year, which was btw the first time I had problems here - after over 10 years.

It happens every year to not be able to see Samui clear from Phangan around this time. The air quality usually is 60 levels too. Pointless to measure the air quality anyway, what does this actually help you with? Nothing. What will it change? Nothing. What will it tell you more? Nothing.

The suggestion to buy an air purifier is just as senseless lol, these people clearly do not understand island life, where you are mainly in open air.

Well, If you have problems with the air quality it is not senseless and not everyone is "mainly in open air". People are different and you spend usually a third of you day inside your bedroom. Waking up without a cloudy head is great.

I can't comment on if the view is normal or not, might be. Fact is that the AQI was really bad last year around this time and for sensitive people an air purifier might be a good solution. A decade ago I lived in KL where it was much worse (also from burning trees plus the usual city pollution) and I know the symptoms quite well. Last year I had the same problems - albeit less severe - on Samui and that was when I decided to buy one and I don't regret it, it helped ME a lot.

If you don't have any problems at all you probably don't need one, good for you.

  6. I agree, just get a smart air purifier and you can monitor it. I bought a "Mi Air Purifier 4 Lite" which you can monitor and control via phone app and monitor it even via linux and do whatever you want with the data.

When it got serious last year I also got another device to monitor the quality, but it is not working at all, even after converting the units. But hey, nice display. Since these are quite expensive and I can get the values from the other device I stopped searching.

Right now it might not be the best air quality but compared to last year it is fine for me. And yes, the purifier works great for me.

Filter is now at (calculated) 48% and I run the device usually automatically when the AQI is above 15 and down to 5. That is quite low and I changed it recently to 20 to 5. Also I run it one hour in the morning before I usually wake up. So a filter replacement will hot happen that often, I got it nearly exactly a year ago. ... just if you fear the costs.

But my bedroom is really small, your mileage may vary ...

Yesterday at 6 pm indexed time, it was good; however, Phangan bad, the island was covered in mist og smog and could not be seen from Samui at 6 o'clock, today it's visible, but not clear. If you look at the history line (one of the shared screen shots), it was good at all checked times...????

No, it was not good on Samui, the page is saying that - nothing else. The page you are looking at is not showing correct values in my opinion. Other services are showing much higher values, even now but the page you are referring too is still showing 52. A good indicator is the little change over the hours or even days, strange that it is always around 50, +/- 2. That looks completely different on other pages, who knows what they are measuring or if the data is correct at all.

Maybe the values are correct for KP, but definitely not for Samui. Other pages, my eyes and my air purifier confirming that. I would not recommend to use the page for Samui.

  8. 8 minutes ago, khunPer said:

We are probably not looking at the same Index. Yesterday Samui was Okay – but Phangan not – today Samui is also reasonable, half of Phangan not...

No, yesterday it was not ok, it seems the monitor and the history on this page are not working correctly. Look at the history of both stations, they barely change at all.

    8 minutes ago, khunPer said:

    Another source...

If you look at the timeline you see that this was much worse before 09:00, when the rain started ...

2nd: on the iqair page there are 3 monitors pm Samui and in the morning one was also quite lower (Lamai) but not as low as the other page. You always have to read the data with a grain of salt but I'm pretty sure it was not around 50 yesterday or before the rain.

  9. If you have problems outside: I can recommend to wear a mask (N95) ... Yes, masks help also against air pollution, and they will not make your dick smaller.

I was living in Malaysia some years ago with much higher PM2.5 values and it was common to wear masks when Indonesia burned palm trees again. Maybe the pollution is for some still not high enough to go through that again ... While I feel the beginning of the symptoms, that is nothing compared to a value over 300 where I had really bad headaches, and my eyes and mouth felt like someone pepper sprayed them - all the time.

Anyway, when it started 2 months ago on Samui I bough a rather cheap (3200 baht Lazada) air purifier for my bedroom and it helps me a lot. I set it so it operates even at normally ok values and let it also run at night for 2 hours before my regular wake up time. I feel much better in the morning.

Since a few days I decreased the turn-on threshold because I was feeling worse again and it runs quite often during the day, which is an indicator that the air is polluted. The device acts quite fast, when I fry something in the kitchen it takes just a few minutes to recognize it, same with the wild fires in the neighborhood which I sometimes only smell when I go outside.

So, if you have problems: both masks and filters work for me.

Yes. And I have seen the cardiologist at Bangkok Samui as well as the urologist. For the last 8 years or so.

They too have signs on their doors saying what they are and they fly in for regular sessions on an appointment basis. I have also seen the same doctors in their 'base' hospitals in Bangkok - when their appointment times did not suit. As well as when I needed an MRI and also when I needed a biopsy. These could not be done on Samui.

These specialists are not based on Samui. They are 'helicopter' doctors.

I asked today if the doctor is available every day and the nurse said yes. Maybe he is there only until noon, I don't know. So far I was lucky and always met him when I showed up without an appointment.

But all this doesn't matter. If you know that you need an cardiologist, my recommendation is to go directly to BKK hospital if you don't want to pay twice. Sure there are some problems that a non specialist can look at but if you already know this will not help save your time and money.

Emergency issues are something else, I expect that every hospital can help.

It has only been open a month (or less). Does any hospital here have a cardiologist permanently on site?

    Yes.

Bangkok Samui only brings in specialists 'on demand'.

I was there after and they had one on site. The same I had last year and the same I have another appointment tomorrow with. On his door it says cardiology with his name on it. I guess he is a cardiologist.

Wattanapat cannot do cataract surgery yet either.

Specialists will take a while I guess.

I think that their target audience at the moment is GP stuff and road carnage.

The intention of my post was to tell other people what they can't do because I got this information first hand. This might be useful for other people and prevent them to go there with this kind of problems, especially when it is urgent. I went there today because of your post and turned out they couldn't help me. Happens, I didn't demanded/expected that every hospital can do everything, actually I was last year first at Thai International for my chest pain and they send me to BKK Hospital because they have a cardiologist.

  12. I just got a delivery from lazada with kerry a few days ago, also the week before.

I'm well aware of the previous problems, had them too, but right now it seems to be ok - for me. Not even delayed as before or playing the "you are not at home" game, packages arriving in time (more or less).

I also know that "my" Kerry office seems closed down too, no idea where to go when something isn't working again.

On lazada: I have the feeling that general delivery slowed down, doesn't matter which service is used. Sure, I still have some orders coming in after 3-4 days but most take longer.  I wish you could pay extra for express delivery or to select the delivery service.

I got recently a package from China canceled (not sure if this is still covid related, I saw pictures of mountains of undelivered packages) and another one is still not sent by the seller after a week or so. Both single items, not making much money but stuff like this worked before without problems.

If there are none I will go over the maps list on Monday and will report back ...

yeah ... I looked at some results from the list and it seems that most are not what I need. I visited 2 and they had nothing written outside about dermatology at all. One was a lab, one was clearly addressing beauty stuff and looked very expensive.

    So, still looking ...

  14. You just saved me a trip to the BKK hospital I had planed for Monday. I was there before and the treatment was good (but also quite expensive).

I've got recently a rash that is not going away and would also appreciate recommendations where to go. No laser/botox/surgery seller, just some doc who will give me some balm/gel or whatever modern magic is available that solves my skin problems.

Norther part of the island would be nice but I can go anywhere. Please no recommendations about doctors who do otherwise great work but are not really dermatologists. I don't want to pay twice, but more important I don't want to waste my time (again). Thanks.

  15. I got my previous glasses at KT at Tesco, but they closed too. So I went recently to "top charoen" near the tesco express in Mae-Nam. Usually i need a few days to get used to new glasses, even when they measured the old ones, they made them just perfect and I could use them right away for everything without problems. I have some tricky sight and this was the first time ever. Very professional handling, all the tests, explained the options and took all the time it needs.

Price was 14k with Ray Ban frame (lol), thin/light glasses, hardening and non-reflective coating (short sighted, -5.5). That is an OK price in my opinion. I don't care about Ray Ban, it was just the one that I spotted first and liked the most.

For medical stuff I can also recommend Dr. Puchong, was there once.

Quick question, I also have a DTAC sim but this is not straight forward as to putting in a code and getting your data. I don't understand this, all I want is the code to get the package and this box appears. Where are the codes?

You just use the app/web to book what you want, the result is the same. TRUE also not showing the codes anymore (as far as I know).

You might want to ask the support for the codes for the plan. I had it multiple times with TRUE that the app/web was not booking the plan I wanted so I used the build in chat feature to get help. The support told me to try the correct code, maybe that works for DTAC too.

Having the code might have advantages, the offers in the app/web might change but the codes are still valid. At least i made this experience with some providers.

That's great if the Truemove H code works for old SIMs.

Here is an example of the original promo:

    https://web.facebook.com/1426088420978890/posts/2615205112067209/

50 baht more for 10 Mbps if the codes still work.

Thanks, will try next month! Not that i usually need a higher speed but it is always great to have the option when my landline internet is not working.

Edit: I just saw there are also DTAC codes, maybe I try one tomorrow, they are also looking great. Thanks again!

The code seems to works for old SIMs too - at lest for me, i tried it tonight at 00:00 when my old extra package ran out :-).

Unfortunately it shows in the true app a little bit cryptic without an end date: IPK_DS_RC_N4MBWIFI_30D, Remaining Unlimited (that shows usually the MB counter for the plan). I started downloading something larger and I was not getting a SMS "You already used XX baht of Internet" nor could i see a change on the money i have. So, seem to work for me.

I just saw the confirmation SMS, with the correct ending date and 4Mbps+Wifi 30 days. So seems everyhing works for me on a years old SIM with that code.

If not, their cheapest normal 30 day pack is Unlimited 2 Mbps for 374.50. It is set to auto-renew, but can only do so if there is 374.50 on account. So don't worry about that.

That is nearly twice as expensive for half of the speed.

    25 minutes ago, Bruno123 said:

If she is happy to take a 90 day pack; DTAC have 90 day Unlimited 10 Mbps for 900 baht exclusive. I guess that's the best choice for an existing SIM @ 321 baht per month for up to 10 Mbps.

    https://www.dtac.co.th/en/dtac-promotion/packages/netunlimited.html

Yup, thanks. That is the only one I found which is decent, but I'm sure she will complain about the 900 baht ???? But let me try ...
