  1. Are there any golf societies in Pattaya that a visitor may join for a weeks golf? or closed shops etc.

My last visit I observed mainly some Brits and Thai men meeting for breakfast in a restaurant in North Pats before going onto golf.

    Seemed a good bunch!.

Have a look in Lewiinski's golfing bar and restaurant they play 4 times a week transport provided if reqd.

Located Soi 13/3 between Beach Road And Second Road

  2. Hi can anyone tell me the where abouts of some decent seafood restaurants in Pattaya or Jomtien, my husband and i have been coming to pattaya for a number of years now and have always been disapointed with the seafood restaurants that we have been in for example the lobster pot etc. we are coming for a month in november so would like to know where they are or any new restaurants that have opened recently. :)

Hi, If you follow Naklua Road north from the dolphin roundabout to the end where it turns right to the Sukamviit road do not turn right go straight ahead fo 200 yards or so the restaurant is on the left with a large car park on the right , the Thais pronounce it Moo Malloy but the name is in Thai and I cannot spell it for you . The restaurant is right on the waters edge and the view over the bay is great.

  3. Hello All,

Hope you are all having a great day.

Since I don't have UBC (or any television for that matter) where would be the best place to sit and watch all 4 days of the Open in a smoke free atmosphere with good old English commentary from the likes of Peter Allis etc.

    Thanks in advance. :)

    Hi Norman,

Depends where you live but if you are in Pattaya there would be no better place than Lewiinski's Golfing bar in Soi 13/3 off Beach Road just before Walking St.

They have 6 screens 4 inside and 2 out side for smokers, you can also get draught Guinness or draught Tetley's good food or snacks and no bar girls to worry about, enjoy.

  4. I've been looking around serviced apartments in the Naklua area today. A few good finds but a bit over my budget. Can anybody recommend something in the B15,000 per month range? Looking for 3-4 months rental, maybe more. I need parking, internet and ideally close to affordable eateries. Will pay a little more if there is a pool.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you checked out the appartments in and around Soi Roilang ( Soi 27 ) or thi Soi opposite Soi Wong Amat ( Soi 18 ) there are lots to choose from but not all have parking.

    Hope you find something suitable.

  5. It would appear to me that many people are missing the point about these red shirt protestors they are being played by Taksin who wants any government that is in power overthrown if they are not going to grant him an amnesty and allow him to return to Thailand so that he can release the multi millions of baht that are frozen plus all his other assets when this is achieved he will be off into the great blue yonder never to be heard of again then maybe we will have a democratic election and government to follow.

  6. Exess Baggage I have recently moved to Thailand permanently with a retirement visa. My exess baggaage from Heathrow to Bankok was charged at 33 GBP a kilo and they only charged 50% of my overwieght this came to 828 GBP with EVA so 250 GBP not to bad pity you gave the shirts away you would have made a profit in the UK I know a guy who comes here 2 or 3 times a year and pays for his ticket with the proceeds of shirts he buys in Mikes Shopping Mall.

Don't think you will have much luck with a refund. :o

  7. A car has been arranged to meet me on arrival at Suvanabhumi.

Where do I go to meet the car ?

It's not self-drive,driver will meet me,where do he display his sign ?

    :o Wiley Coyote

He must park car in public car park then he can meet you at whatever exit you wish but then you must push trolley or carry bags to car park if you ask him to meet you where the taxi's are you will have trouble with airport police { I have been there) all he best.airport

  8. I assume that the family are Buddhist. At the funeral I attended recently the family and friends dressed as smartly as they could afford. My wife suggested that if I wore black and/or white it would go down well so I wore a white shirt (not t-shirt in my case) and black trousers. Shorts are probably a no no.

Something like 200 baht in an envelope would go down well. It's unlikely that you will be asked to contribute a substantial amount if you're not married into the family, not that Thai funerals are expensive. I guess that, even if you are asked for more money, you are too polite to follow the previous rather rude advice to 'tell them to get stuffed'.

Thai Buddhist funerals are quite happy affairs. Shows of grief are usually kept private within the family but you might expect a few at the moment the coffin goes into the furnace. As suggested, stay with your girlfirend and she will explain what's happening. In fact, most of the time nothing is happening except talking and eating.

It's good of you to make the trip. The family will respect you greatly for taking the trouble.

Thanks for the response it has been very helpful yes the family are Buddhist and I would obviously like to be respectful to the family etc etc

Attended the funeral of my last sister-in-law only last Sunday.

You make a donation, in an envolope with your name on, and the level of donation is entirely up to you, bearing in mind what you can afford, your 'position' within the family, and the circumstances of the family itself.

I wore a white T-shirt and off white chinos, and was told that a plain red shirt would have been acceptable, black is fairly uncommon, though closer family are taking it up. Most poorer families do not have special or 'best' clothes, so, generally speaking, clean and tidy is the by word.

As to what to do, the ceremonies appear to vary a great deal around the country, so keep your lady close to hand and follow her guidance.

And, strange as this may sound, I found the whole thing to be a moving but enjoyable experience, a fine way to say farewell.

Thanks for the information it has been very helpful

  9. Can someone please give me some advice about Thai funerals

my girl friends father has just died the funeral will be on 3rd Feb I am arriving in Bangkok on the 1st and will travel to her home town from the airport this is Burrirum. What should I wear for the funeral? Will I be expected to take anything for the family, there are only sisters involved as her mother died some years ago. Three of her sisters are married to Thai husbands and one is younger and still single. Can anyone advise me what sort of expenses are involved and would I as a Farang boyfriend be expected to pay?

    Hope somebody can help.
