What's that sound? Americans whooping in joy at the exchange rate!
tingtong replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Not sure why any longer term expat American be whooping with joy at this rate.... ( I am a non-US citizen, so excuse me not understanding)... But I recall moving here in 2002.... 1 USD = 43.5 THB 1 plate fried rice street side 20thb or 1 USD = 2 fried rice The current rate certainly off the lows, but I would think to hold the real whooping until buying parity is closer to that 2 fried rice or approx 1 USD = 100 THB Then Thailand would be equally cheap as then. Right now the fried rice meter says it is nearly 3x more expensive as it used to be 20 yrs ago. -
If doesn't sell, create an artificial controversy around to help. Seen it in Thailand got talent, where the "contestant" were paid to get half naked to 'paint with her breasts' on stage, seen other times... This sounds nothing more than another publicity stunt, in hope to sell some ridiculously priced tickets.

3 in 3 months they said? Q: is that really qualify to be the next reason to panic? Now put things into a little context, here is a little news snippet: "In a report released in March last year by the National Institute for Child and Family Development (NICFD), it was revealed that between the years 2000 to 2018, there were more than 22,700 drownings involving children under 15 in the kingdom, which averages about 1,262 children per year or a shocking five kids per day." for those, a bit more number inclined that is 5 kids a day .... or about 450 kids in 3 months. I would naively think one issue is a lot more alarming than the other. Least it is, in my view.

Wonder if a re-entry stamp in the passport is equal or less to a "border pass" when entering? -
What risk to Thailand as monkeypox spreads across the world?
tingtong replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Going by the country list, it seem to be a virus that spreading quickly in countries that has no native monkeys. By that logic Thailand is quite safe. ???? -

Lucky timing, the nightlife is just about open legally. Now only need to officially enlist the freelancers to perform searches too along the strips. -
If a human would assault the 5-yrs old, needing 24 stitches ...would immediately locked up, after the customary re-enactment and wai. If a dog does it, mai bpen rai, business as usual, the kid's or parents' fault. If the parents would assault the dog, they would be criminals, jailed. Bit of a double standard? Most places a brutal attacker would be taken out of normal life, minimizing the chance of repeat. We live in a strange world where a stray dog's wellbeing is more important than an innocent child's well being and life.

Thai hotels listed among TripAdvisor’s best hotels of 2022
tingtong replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thai hotels ranking on guest reviews ... where in Thailand guests can be dragged to court and even jail for stating a not favorable truth? Only worse, when ranking not based on real reviews, but advertising money, connections, or industry politics. -
Will taxis offer the same mandatory child seats? Or baht buses a seat belt? Or both belt/ child seat for those in the bead of pickups? Understand that they want to start somewhere. But think perhaps a very strict have driving license, or no drunk driving would be a better first step to general road safety and less fatal accidents.

Thailand Pass still required for all those entering Thailand
tingtong replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Huh? Perhaps you travelled in the past another universe? Where I recall the past the only docs needed to be approved/accepted in the not that distance past was a valid passport. Both funny and scarry that ppl forgot how travelling was just 3 yrs ago.... -
Was some sample price, even with one or another can't fit to 30k and "comfortable" in same sentence... Never said anything about everyone have a child, or need to live in 1 br. ( But if you so inclined to get specific, I have a child, live in a 2 br, and definitely cost a lot more than 30k a month to feel comfortable)
-
Highly debatable. But doubt that is comfortable. As for expats, A decent 1 br apartment in downtown cost about 15-30k a month alone... School fees? Even a bilingual/English program will set one back about 8-10k a month, with international schools the limit the sky. Add transportation, maybe indulge a bottle acceptable wine... 30k, not even for Thais it is comfortable. Get by, ok. If childless and hole up in somewhere very simple.

tingtong replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
So they continue with the " multiple clarification" of tourists. Once double standards, always double standards. That habit won't die here anytime soon! ????
