  1. The answer is BOTH, and they do.

Actually I think nzexpact is technically correct, IOs are not touching money from foreigners. They can be greedy, but not stupid.

They don't care, they get away with it anyway : Hostile in Pattaya paid 3000 thb for 3 months.

    Total was 5000

And many ppl i know from different schools paid the same....

It worked they kept passport overnight

so i come in guy from school gives them passport then come back next day no queue at and it was packed, they serve you stright away took photo and was handed passport without any recip whatsoever. .....

5000 is paid to school and they handle it

  2. It's not a new rule.

It's your school being targeted by immigration, for whatever reason (one could be refusing to pay increasingly bigger bribe).

The the ED visa as we know it is over, they want to whiz as much money as poss before the whole thing collapses.

It's not going fast enough for their liking, so they ask for more money. The more money they ask the faster it will end.

The school is telling you it's a rule, but it's not, it's THEIR given rule.

Please say the name of your school so potential students can avoid it.

Thats every school man. I know ppl in different schools in pattaya and they all same...

The OP said he was in BKK and so am I.

I still get 3 months for 1900 and so does students in Pattaya branch of my school.

Sorry you picked the wrong school

No one gets 3 months for 1900 in pattaya now.

U get 15 days and they come check on you.

  3. Do not want to get too involved and upset the Thais as I enjoy living here and grown to accept that they are different to Western people but I do not understand them too much. Can someone please let me know something about the Monks. I have asked my Thai wife and as usual I get the runaround. I take it the monks are supposed to dedicate their life to their religion and leave behind their luxuries while in the Monkhood. My wife visits the local temples and takes food and gives cash to the monks, presumably because they can't afford food themselves.I see the local monks walking about without shoes so I guess they can't afford shoes. Then why is it that I have seen monks with iphones and tablets etc, are they a different type of monk and if my wife visited a temple and had to wait for a monk to finnish his conversation on his iPhone before he could accept the money and gifts would she still be so generous. If some of the monks have iPhone money then why can't they donate money to a central fund (regulated by an honest Thai official) and some of the monk wealth can be given to the poor monks so they can but some shoes.I would appreciate your thoughts.

I seen leaked photo from back room temple. If i find it I will post it.

There were monks counting mountians of money. Dont be dupped......

  4. Thai corruption is on different level. For me corruption means when you can pay for favours bigger or smaller.

But in thailand for example police with lawyers can rob you take all your properties with fake sign and thats called corruption?

As well every gov. In every country is corrupted. I cant think of not criminal or corrupted one may b Hitler nazi gov.

Look on UK gov and Elm guesshouse pedo scandal. Now thay say its national security matter. ... why? Cuz it can take gov down.....

  5. I trade with Maybank-KimEng, the biggest broker in Thailand. Easy to set up. Fees are 0.0015% + 7% VAT with a minimum of 50 Baht per combined tradings per day. Fees are extremely low compared to most other countries, especially the USA. Easy to work with them, good support. Here is their website. If the link doesn't work, just put http://www.maybank-ke.co.th in your browser. The account is free of charge.

Is that the acc u register for online shares trading?

You probably need to become a client by completing the appropriate paperwork first. Once that's been approved you can register for online access.

Its all paper work in there

  7. KimEng is a good broker but not cheaper than trading in America (for me)

I am not sure but Dario your fees seem a lot cheaper than what the stated rates are - perhaps you added a couple of zeros?

Or maybe I am not reading the rates correctly?

the fees you mention are all via sales rep channel and that's of course more expensive. I understand that sales reps have to be paid. I trade via cash balance channel on my computer, so for < 5 Mio Baht the commission fee is 0.15% ++ = 0.1578%.

In America I pay $8.95 per trade with Schwab (for US trades not sure for set trades) so unless I am missing something trading in America tends to be a lot cheaper especially for large trades.

I'm a penny a stock day trader and go in and out of the market several times per day mostly on the same stock, but I have never paid as much as $8.95 on a single trade.

    Its 10GBP in UK

  8. Much appreciated.

    Niob question.

If I buy shares in Maybank

Is there a daily charge? Is it.

No daily charges, no charges whatsoever. With Maybank you'll get 1,9% intrest on your idle money.

I give you a very good advice. Trade dry for about 3-6 months and you still have your money 3-6 months later. You'll be ever grateful to me if you follow this advice. But you'll surely regret if you don't. This is the best advice anyone can give you, unless you have years of experience.

During these months you learn and review all the mistakes you make. Learn, learn, learn. Costs you nothing, but you'll be glad you did.

U mean trade on practice acc.

I do that all the time.

    Thx for all info.

  9. I'm no expert, but if think the condo market in Pattaya/Jomtien is wide open, thousands of units empty. Would only buy house/land, but not in wife's name !

How do you buy land not in wife's name?

Via a company, a son, a daughter, a friend, etc. There are lost of ways. But if someone doesn't trust their wife you have to wonder why they married her and why they are still with her. I just can't get my head around the fact that so many people are in relationships where they is zero trust. It's very sad. There are so many wonderful and trustworthy women in the world, so why on earth marry an untrustworthy woman? The mind boggles.

Buying land as you suggest is either illegal or YOU never actually own it.

As for the part about, "There are so many wonderful and trustworthy women in the world, so why on earth marry an untrustworthy woman? The mind boggles".

The mind certainly does!! No-one intentionally marries an untrustworthy woman (do they?) however in LOS there are countless incidents where a seemingly "good" woman rips off the person whose mindset reflects your statement above.......why even today on TV there are two stories re. money being stolen by a "trusted" wife and another farang losing his money when investing in an elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai.

In a country where corruption is endemic and even children see it as acceptable (recent survey), then it's no surprise that "trust" is not seen here as a priority.

When I said buy in wife, so or daughter's name, I meant buy for them so that they are the owners. I didn't mean to use them to hold property that's really yours. I think that is part of the difference between the West and Asia. In the West, most people tend to be me, me, me. hey want everything in their own name. In Asia, family seems to be more important and hence a family owning something in their name is still since as a family asset. I don't have children, but if I did I'd happily buy a house in their name and live there myself. When I get married i also inten to buy a house in my wife's name. It will be her house.

Regarding untrustworthy women, of course you could marry someone that you think to be trustworthy and they turn out not to be. But I do think many farangs here marry women that they know to be untrustworthy right from the start. Just read through this forum. Even before they get married they say they will never buy anything in their wife's name. Not much trust there. My parents never thought like that. Some assets were in joint names and some in the name of one of the other. It was normal for them. Even even bought UK property in relatives names just because I wasn't there at the time to sign the documents. Never did i think they'd run off with my assets. Same here. You can never be 100% sure, but you can be pretty close to knowing if someone is trustworthy. If you don't trust them enough to own a property in their name, then why would you marry them in the first place. That's the things I don't get.

Suppose only Brits could own property in UK and suppose I was about to marry a rich non-Brit woman and live together in the UK. Now also suppose she told me that even though we were about to get married she would never trust me enough to buy property in my name, I'd dump here. I just wouldn't want to marry someone I was committing the rest of my life to if she was openly declaring that she'd never fully trust me. I just don't see how a relationship like that can work. How on earth can you have a good relationship if you have so little trust in your wife. I really don't understand them mentality of people that do that. I'd rather not get married.

Yes there are many trustworthy women in Thailand, they are not all liars and thieves. Yet unfortunately things in life can change, and let's remember that there is no law in Thailand as we know in the UK. And because circumstances can change any Farang who is using HIS money to buy property here, would be very foolish not to try and cover his back as much as possible.

Apparently its so easy to transfer ownership of property to someone else without owner sign.

Its happend to Colin Vard he lost 7 properties with forged sign.

you can pay 1900 for extension then you get 15 days and officers visit your school and check if you attend classes, if you are then you get remaining 75 days

if you miss class and they check on you they will cancel your visa

if you pay 5000 its hassle free, and they not check on you
