  1. Is it possible for me to transfer £100,000 from my UK bank to my Bangkok Bank in Thailand in 1 transaction for a condo purchase as I am coming to Thailand to live when I am permitted to do so. The large amount will be from the sale of my property in the UK. I don't really want to go back to the UK once I come over to live to transfer small amounts e.g £25-30,000 I just want to do it in 1 lump sum ????
  2. 200 to 500 bahts for Thai bank charges is not true, each bank charge whatever they want to charge on the day, I've never been charged 200 to 500 bahts for transferring from the UK. They never show the transfer charge they just show the total per transaction available in the account, mine is always £40 (1700 bahts) less than expected & that's allowing for a lower bahts rate than showing in currency index.
  3. Be careful using Bangkok Bank, I transferred £16,000 sterling from my HSBC in uk & after I had a blazing row because they said they take 1.25% for commission which amounted to over 12,000 thai bahts deduction.
  4. Hi all, I've read some interesting comments on this topic especially bkk 6060. I will be facing what he says about my uk family sticking me in a rest home just staring at a t.v & getting no visitors. I've got a dream Thai girlfriend which we have been hoping to get married since Covid started (we should have got married years ago), she & her family would help & really look after me as I enter into aLL sorts of probable ailments. How much more difficult is it to quit a country like the UK to live permanently in Thailand now that the Covid situation has changed everything or are the procedures similar to pre Covid?????
  5. Jomtien is a nice place to live ,it has a bit of everything for everyone with a great night market (it had before Covid). It just depends on your age group ? 20 to 45 yrs it will appear quite boring with very little music & night life, 45 to 60 yrs it appears to be a nice place to live without all the headbanging music, 60 to my age 76 yrs it's absolutely heaven, with quiet nights at home etc. It's also cheap to live in Jomtien Beach.
