  1. During our last trip there, we got a freebie biggrin.png . Marriot Hotel stand talked us into listening to their timeshare promotion and in exchange we got transport from the airport to our hotel, even though we weren't staying at the Marriot. They dropped us off at our hotel (Seaview Patong), arranged to take us back to the airport on our return home, threw in tickets to Fantasea and a golf day for hubbie. Cost us NOTHING.. just an hour of our time saying ooh and aah... didn't even buy into the timeshare stuff.

  2. if the kids dont go to school and the parents don't pay the money the system fails

    so keep the first happy

my daughter had to choose her field of 'study' English or Logistic, she chose the latter

I understood that because her english is a 1 out of 100, so I asked her why logistic, "ehh huh?"

she liked the terms I guess..

You could laugh about it if it wasn't just so very sad, for everyone...

why I pay anyway? parental thingy...and she needs a grade not to loose face..

God I am happy she is just as pretty as her mother, she is going to need it

giggle.gif sorry, don't mean to laugh... but this IS funny... and this topic comes at just the right time for me... because I was considering uprooting my son from high school here in SA (grade 8) in case we decide to move to LOS earlier than planned... but errmmm, I don't think so. I will carry on paying crazy school fees at the private school he's at right now. At least he can read, write, add and subtract, learned 2 extra languages besides our mother tongue which happens to be English.... along with a whole lot of other subjects that will come in handy one day.

But really Jumbo... this post is priceless!! cheesy.gif

  3. Wow, you all have amazing stories. Thank you for sharing.

This place is magical and it stays with you forever. I feel like the people in my neighborhood are a community.

I hope I can make it back someday on a permanent basis.

I don't even live there, but I know exactly how you feel... been to Thailand 4 times for holidays, and every single time when we left, it felt like a limb was being amputated. But we're planning on going back to Thailand for a short holiday later this year, and in a few years, plan on settling down there. This forum and all its members is giving me a whole lot of insight as to the farang way of life and all the ins and outs, so by the time we are ready to settle down there, we should have it all down pat (fingers crossed).

(((((((((((((((((ev1lchris)))))))))))))))) - that's your cyber hug smile.png . I wish you good luck with your future endeavours and may you return soon.

  4. An adult tick can supposedly lay up to 20 000 eggs. They won't all survive of course but they can hatch out over up to three years. Members of this family (spiders, mites and so on) are notorious for the fact that it is almost impossible to chemically attack their eggs.

Follow the advice given about washing. You can then without worrying, spray the clothes with Chaindrite cockroach spray, outside of course. We occasionally spray the corners of our rooms as well as bedding, we then shut the doors and leave the house for an hour or two. We had a real infestation last year and this is the solution we came up with, as well as regularly cleaning the dogs by hand, usage of tick and flea shampoo as well as occasionally applying Bayticol. You never get rid of ticks entirely but we no longer see them going up the walls here like we regularly did before, we have 8 dogs and I would say that 6 out of the 8 are clean at any one time.

Don't worry about being bitten, the small ones sting but are harmless. The adults will stay on the job, regurgitating the remnants of their last meal into the blood stream and then feeding again. That's where you are in danger. I hate the f#$%ers.

After reading this, I feel like I NEED TO BE DIPPED AT A VET... just thinking about it makes my skin crawl... w00t.gif

  5. I once paddled a kayak with a GF in Khlong Prao, on Koh Chang, out behind Blue Lagoon, just downriver from the workers' waterside shanties.

We smelled a fetid ripeness; I saw little floaters. Lots and lots of malformed Baby Ruths ….

Before I could say anything, she screeched like a barn owl--

One end of her paddle high out of water, looking up, she froze in panic.

And down it slid like a brown oyster on teflon.

    Right into her lap.

LOL - shame man... did she jump in the water to rinse IT off?? hehehe
