    who are '

who are ' these girls'?; do you mean lower class, lower educated girls working in, or on the edge of, the sex industry? or are you generalising that all thai girls need money?

i dont understand the bubble that some foreigners live in here, they don't seem to know anything about thailand, thais or thai culture.

every thai girl/woman i have dated has had an education, a career, an apartment, usually a car or even two, plenty of money and they certainly didnt date me for financial gain. this is not boastfulness, this is, for me, normality and it makes me a normal person - it doesn't make me 'ignorant or having a self-satiating attitude'.

A middle path maybe more true?

Gets my vote for the most ridicules comment award.

Not so ridiculous! Just as we blame the mother and the adult government servant in the provincial office for their crimes - the underlying and fundamental reasons should not be overlooked. It is a bit harder to study the social situation which is uncontrollably under the influence of money. Free economy (and the political power it gives to wealth itself) covers up lots of vicious elements which shows up on such occasions.

  3. It is time we start reviewing the indiscriminate use of the words "Prostitution" which labels a group of people mainly women who want to make a living by selling sex or related services. Prostitute is a humiliating word. People engaged in trafficking and exploitation should be punished - whether in sex industry or elsewhere. There is no fun in western comments on sex industry in Thailand or in India or vice versa. There is lots of hypocrisy around sex in east, west, south or north - poor or rich countries. But I think we can avoid humiliating people based on their occupation or birth.

  4. Happiness is very much subjective, Objective figures given certain weightage and calculating happiness has some meaning - but could we give the result the term 'happiness' is debatable. Poor people in a forest village could be much more happier than richer than them but poor in the neighbourhood... Gandhi advocated for limiting wants to achieve happiness. Schumacher's small is beaurtiful is another example.

If the guy did all that then why complain, should have had a helmet and registration papers. The guy was clearly at fault and made a fuzz because of it the fine went up. That is a good thing, they should do that back in my country too.

4 am in the morning.... when you are at work and feeling to fetch some snack from the nearby night shop your outing is very informal and without any disturbance to the traffic...   it need some sensitivity to humanity in not finding "crime" and violation of traffic rules... It is understandably harassing the boy and Police taking side of their "clan" by justifying this harassment. Reading rules on such occasions is immaturity ..

I really don't see the harm here, but I understand red reporters like the two mentioned in the article would bend something like this into a anti junta rant. This has been going on this way long before the junta and now its bad all of a sudden.

On a children's day we could familiarise the future society with environmental issues, sharing happiness, enjoying art and so many other virtues rather than violent shows, hatred and military. That goes a long way in shaping the future.

Unless you can get all nations fisheries to play together then it is in each countries best interest to maximize catch until the resource is exhausted.

Why be the only one to restrict your quota when every other boat is filling their holds?

Very true...... Example - Kerala (India) bans deep sea fishing in June- July the breeding season - and that is a time the fishermen from neighbouring provinces and countries look for every year to fill their boats taking advantage of the silence in that zone.... If the neighbours do not cooperate, it is going to be a serious problem for the future generations.

    PIN number for what ?

What had the phone SIM got to do with anything ?

Why did the victim give away his PIN number ?

Am I being dumb ? or does this story make little sense ?

handing over PIN to someone and getting duped is mistake from the part of the customer - the bank should not have been punished for that. If the bank come out with tighter processes the difficulty is for customers in general

  9. The most common - increasingly - is to find all possible faults with other cultures and communities upto the extent of killing (eg Islamic terror groups). Which country/community is "soooooo good" that does not yield any criticism?.  But if improvement is the purpose of criticism this woman is the model - she qualifies as human more than just being 'Chinese'

  10. Interpretation of the survey result could have been better drafted. 'The moaners' even if they are less than 50% - or even 5% do not lose their significance. They played an important role in bringing issues out and getting solved, drawing attention and advocating for the rights which made life for everyone happier. We in general tend to neglect the ideas upheld by groups or individuals if they fail to be in the section of people who vote and become part of the 50% side - we have misinterpreted it as democracy. What about the feelings, thinking and ideas of the 48% of the population who voted in the brexit for Britain to remain in EU. The subsequent actions following just a voting tramples on their emotions, ambitions and prospects - just because they could not muster a few more votes - is it the judgement of right and wrong? fact or fiction? In an Islamic country lion-share of votes will be against rights of a religious minority - does it mean that the Muslims who voted for humanity do not exist?

I am also not sure whether the survey could capture how many of the happy 80% do not 'moan' on Thai Visa forum when something wrong happens in the country?

  11. He must have gotten his information about the hazards of yaba from the medical council. Only they would give such misinformation saying yaba was less hazardous than cigarettes or alcohol. One has to wonder what drugs this guy is taking on a daily basis to make such a report.

I do enjoy the sarcasm on the medical council - their "fraternity" accord priority to their selfish interests rather than public health or society in general. However, we should not ignore the interventions in support of people already victims of addiction and efforts to rehabilitate them... the suggested policy on ya ba should be seen on this background

  12. If true.......Payback's a bitch Obama!......But this is what you want!!.....Perpetual war serves you (the corporate schill) and your corporate buddies ....

Added bonus........you get to crack-down on the people at homesmile.png ..........

All these wars in the middle east are at the heart of this hatred towards america and it's 'allies'

You memory is short...remember who started these wars.

To rake up the memory from a few decades ago.... didn't US think that the terrorism they cultivated in Afghanisthan to lead the downfall of USSR would lead to damages across the world? However this knowledge of history won't help us to face terrorism at the moment....... the roots are deeper and inter-woven into the third world poverty
