  1. Hi

Anybody know what happens when youve got an open return ticket - will they charge you at the airport or is the surcharge on 'new' tickets

    Thanks

    JohnB

Never heard of that happeneing and never experienced it myself. Once you have paid and have your ticket it is valid for the duration of the terms that it applies to. Usuallythat's a year on a standard open ticket.

Yes, you're safe. Fuel surcharge applies to tickets purchased after the effective date of price increase. You need not worry. You have an open ticket and can book your flight to get a seat (subject to availability) regardless of current fuel surcharge.

    Hope that helps...:-)

  2. Rising oil and fuel prices is the most likely culprit...although having said that let's not forget how British Airways was recently implicated for dishonestly charging customers excessively under the excuse of 'fuel surcharge' in cahoots with another airline... Oh well... :o

Massive increase in Air fares from May 9

We have just received our new price sheets effective 09 May from Eva Air, and they are applying what can only be described as irresponsible increases to all their air fares from next Friday.

    Example of round trip fares:

Low season London economy was around THB 33,000 and will go to THB 42,500

Low season Amsterdam was around THB 28,000 and will go to THB 34,500

Low season USA was around THB 30,000 and will go to THB 37,000

To add insult to injury they have also introduced a weekend surcharge on the USA! Needless to say the Elite Class fares also go up.

We have no idea how they can justify this, considering that the Baht has strengthened against all currencies the Taiwanese must be doing very nicely thank you from sales In Thailand but there is nothing anyone can do about it except fly on other airlines!

Anyone who is holding a booking that has not yet been ticketed needs to complete the transaction by the

end of 8th May, and Thaivisa Travel can of course still make bookings at the old fare for another week.

  3. The incident, which is now a murder investigation, occurred only meters away from the Tourist Police Unit.

So the guys didn't want to go in the bar, the Thais got hostile, the guys make a complaint and are told to take it to the police station.

    Basically a big FO.

The guys get angry and return to sort it out themselves as they see that the authorities aren't interested.

They are outnumbered 5 to 1, viciously beaten and one murdered within metres of the Tourist police point and no one is held responsible.

What a f@cking sick country Thailand has turned into.

You can try and rationalise it or compare it with other countries problems, but this is an all time low.

It's always been like this here. A foreigner should NEVER get into a physical fight with a group of thais. Specially after having had a few drinks and in a night entertainment area like Pattaya or Patpong etc. When you go to bars you should refrain from getting into arguments with locals or challenge them specially if it concerns money. A foreigner is 'easy game' and can easily be outnumbered and overpowered. Enjoy the beer and the girls' company and stay away from uncalled for hassles. Very sad it turned out this way but hopefully a reminder to other tourists and farangs to know the code of conduct. Condolences to the guy's family and friends. This is no way to die...

  4. Pathetic. Not even a statement demanding or requesting that the Myanmar gov't show restraint against the Buddhist monks who are displaying such bravery, and who today have been beaten with sticks, tear gassed, and potentially shot at. Restraint that would prevent an evacuation being neccessary. Disgusting.

How many defenceless monks will they beat with sticks if they refuse to bow down and simply keep coming out in more numbers to just take the beating without fighting back ? The path of quiet defiance and demand for dignity in the face of irrational aggression, specially by holy men highly revered in Burmese society, is bound to have an impact on the ruling military junta. The world will stand and watch and cite technicalities refusing direct interference but maybe not this time around for the military rulers. Beating buddhist monks while they refuse to fight back and refuse to go away absolutely will not continue without reactions and protests and I don't see how the military rulers can quell the uprising this time. Gandhi style non violent defiance and protest will leave the rulers look increasingly stupid (not to mention cruel and savage) in the eyes of the world. Hopefully, it will act on their conscience (sp) - if they have any and they find an alternative route rather than violence and death of ordinary citizens. Let's pray no more innocent lives are lost.

  5. Read an article in the ChinaView.

Sounds like it was being pushed back and hit a building and a coach.

    The new airport is jinxed.

I'd be willing to bet the management will call in some Monks, burn some incense, maybe put up a statue or somthing.

    That should fix it.

2 Sticks of incense and small statue from Khun Hiso's Trading Co. - 150,000 baht

Expenses for AOT officials to attend ceremony - 540,319 Baht

A rear view mirror on your A-380 - Priceless

    :o

    Priceless indeed ! :-)

  6. what a classic tale.... :o "farang robs thai bank" has such a nice ring to it too ! Only 420,000 baht. The guy had his day and maybe the cops won't be able to catch him who knows. Not saying this guy did anything brave or cool, but the banks rob us all blind on a daily basis. Thai banks more so with some truly queer rules regarding opening accounts, limitations on money transfers, non existent interest rate, etc. As if this bank's going to miss the 420,000 baht. Let's see if and when this guy gets caught and if he's really 'farang'. Can't wait to find out !

  7. “From October 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007, we counted all the days from the foreigner’s first day regardless whether the foreigner was actually in Thailand or not.

“Also, foreigners were not permitted to stay in Thailand after their 180-day period had expired [counted from the foreigner’s first day], regardless whether the foreigner had stayed a full 90 days in Thailand or not,” Capt Krissarat said.

“However, the rule has been changed. From April 1, we now count only the days the foreigner has stayed in Thailand – and foreigners are now allowed to stay past the 180-day period,” he said.

I don't understand these three paragraphs at all. Would somebody be so kind as to clarify this clarification for me? :o

I guess it says that in the past (until March 2007), foregners were allowed a total of 180 days starting the count from the first entry date (regardless of many days one actually stayed in the country - i.e. If you first entered on 1st Jan, you will not be permitted to stay beyond 30th June (or so - counting exact 180 days - I'm not taking into account months with 31 days and feb with lesser). So, if you entered on 1st Jan and then departed on 20th Jan and then returned after a month, the clock would still be ticking depsite the fact that you were not rally present in the country. Whereas now, they will count the exact number of days you actually stay and then keep totalling them up until you hit 180 before you're no longer allowed in.

That's my take. Could be wrong, who knows...

  8. Interesting...but I think if it was JI they would have planned a 'spectacular' not a series of small explosions. So doubtful..to me at least.

    Is this more dis-information?

I also don't understand the second-to-last paragraph about Thaksin-supporters instigating this from Langkawi. Seems to contradict the whol story doesn't it?

I agree. I wouldn't take any of this at face value. There's more to this than meets the eye. All these bombs went off (or were meant to go off) within very short intervals of each other and the entire law enforcment apparatus in the metropolis could not come up with a single clue as to who pulled this off and did not leave a trace of evidence behind ??? How incredible ! Some people or group of people with some kind of association on the 'inside' had to be involved. Too much to expect everyone to believe that a bunch of 'foot soldiers' from malaysia with no knowledge or connections in Bangkok simply walked in planted the bombs and walked out and our police forces had no clue of any of it and afterwards, could not isolate a single 'careless evidence' left behind to start their investigation !! Too good to be true !

  9. Isn't this becoming so bloody boring. Plots and super plots. I would like to think the Thai military are a little better skilled than what has been presented so far as an asassasination attempt.

Thaksin's granddaughter ??? What's all this ? Does anyone know of Thaksin having a granddaughter ? Aren't his kids barely out of their teens and have no children of their own ??
