  1. Seems like Thailand is like China; it can be technically illegal, but if you're good - and polite - and don't make waves - they desperately need you. Seems there can be a pay off amongst officials if they like you. And to the poster who is crying about degrees and the like, there are college educated teachers out there who are absolute idiot teachers sorry to say; me, I've had some college that's about it, but I am a skilled, well liked teacher and very good thank you kindly. Fortunately I just guest teach in Thailand for free as I don't want to risk anything since I live here. If they deport me from China without a degree BFD - but they REALLY need teachers! Teach in China, make a lot of bucks then go down to Koh Tao. I'm teaching online now, mostly - outside of Thailand of course.

    Guest teaching in Thailand with no WP = illegal

    Teaching online while YOU are in Thailand with no WP = illegal

  2. I connect through the wifi at the apartment block, but it has been the same in the 4 places I have lived since moving back.

    If you use a proxy server...
    Check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server: Go to the Chrome menu > Settings > Show advanced settings... > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect "Use a proxy server for your LAN".
  3. Afternoon all,

    OK, I used to live in Thailand and accessed Facebook no probs on my laptop. I moved to Vietnam where I had to use a vpn/proxy thingy to access it. Now back in Thailand and I still have to use the vpn/proxy thingy to access Facebook on the laptop.

    I have changed every setting that I can find in Chrome and Facebook to "Thailand", but all to no avail.

    Any clues ?

    Thanks

  4. Think you will find that you can not change from ed extension to a retirement visa in country. You will either have to do a border run and return on a tourist visa exemption or visit a local Thai embassy or consulate to obtain it. Not sure what country you are from but if not a G7 country you will get only a 15 day entry from a land crossing and this will not be enough time, as in order to change from a tourist to another type of visa you require a full 14 days remaining on the exemption stamp.

    You need 15 days remaining to do a conversion.

    I am lucky enough to be from the US so I can do the exempt entry, but I have not done an exempt entry run for a long time. I thought they had changed the rules on those and all exempt entries were 30 days now, overland and at airports.

    The rules changed to allow people from G7 countries to get 30 days overland, not everyone.

  6. whistling.gif Since at least October 2010, when I got my original 1 year Non O visa in Hull, England a one year Non O multi entry visa has been valid for one year after the Date of Issue by the Thai consulate or embassy that issues it.

    I got my visa on 15 October 2010, and it expired on 15 October 2011.

    Now you can extend that visa annually based on retirement in Thailand if you meet the financial and age requirements.

    That's what I did and have done annually until now.

    Your expiry date would have been the 14 October 2011

    The OP is talking about a Non-O for family visit, not retirement

  7. The police clearance document is meant to be from your home country, and has "technically" been a requirement since I first came to teach here 5 years ago.

    Which is why I mucked around getting one, which in NZ can take upto 3 months. However, I've never actually been asked for it in the 5 years I've been here.

    But yeah, it's always been a requirement, just never enforced (until now I guess).

    P

    If you have lived in Thailand for over 6 months, a check done here will suffice.

  8. "bigt3116 - it would have been more accurate for me to have said "January TO April". These months are high season, so it is packed with people and Phuket Town immigration can barely cope. January and April are the months I had to do a 90-day report."

    Still confused, so Jan-Apr are high season for............tourists, who do not do 90 day reports.

    bigt3116 - Immigration also does 30-days extensions to the standard "30-days on arrival" stamp, certificates of residence and multiple other services. I'm guessing most of the people are tourists originally coming for 30-days who decide they want to stay longer. I don't now for certain why most are there, I just see Phuket Town Immigration is always packed full of people during these high season months.

    In general there are far more people around on the whole island from January to April. There's barely a drop of rain falls in that 4 month period so the tourists flock in. The traffic is much heavier and of course restaurants, bars, clubs and hotels are busier.

  9. At this time only Nong Khai and Mukdahan has been asking for the termination letter. They send you back to the immigration office near the bridge to have it cancelled.

    The best way to do it is to get the termination letter and go to immigration a few days before the effective date on it and they will post date the cancellation to that date..

    Nong Khai is no longer asking for the termination letter, though of course that may change :-)

  10. As a work permit is not required, you could do them on any entry, as has been said, if you are visiting.

    The Thai Department of Employment issued an announcement on March 6, 2015, declaring the types of work-related activities that are not classified as “work” under Thailand’s Alien Working Act B.E. 2551 (2008).1

    With immediate effect, the following activities will not require application for a work permit:

    1. Attending a meeting, conference, or seminar;
    2. Attending an exhibition or trade fair;
    3. Taking part in a business meeting or business negotiations;
    4. Attending a special lecture or academic lecture;
    5. Attending lectures as part of training or technical training;
    6. Purchasing goods at a trade fair;
    7. Attending a Board of Directors meeting at one’s own company.

    Why This Matters

    It is important that immigration and global mobility professionals, and employees traveling to Thailand for business, understand that a business traveler or foreign individual who comes to Thailand for such activities – as noted above – no longer requires work authorization. This should therefore help to ease some of the administrative burdens on companies and makes it simpler and more convenient for business travelers or foreign individuals to enter the country when participating in or undertaking the above-noted activities.

  11. Oh dear, what can I say.....go buy a house and land too while you are at it.

    Unbelievable

    correct me if I am wrong but I guess it s 100% legal for a foreigner to own a land if he possesses a Thai permanent residency card which those firms offer as a service.

    You can't own land with permanent residency. You would need citizenship for that. Did he give you a price for citizenship?

    hundreds of real estate agents in Pattaya and Phuket sells homes to foreigners ( I guess through shelf companies or leasing) so far I never heard of any major crack down on them there s even a whole district of luxury homes in pattaya which is sold to wealthy Russian investors, the reason why I also like this service because I don't want my passport to be filled with Cambodian visa which take a whole one page every 3 months, I guess the price is fair, some people here don't understand that Thai consulates have different rules for different nationalities and the one year multiple entry option is not available for everyone

    and if I take two weeks break from my work and fly back to western Europe i would have lost more then 75K sure.

    Are you now saying you are working in Thailand too ?

  12. That is what all those other people thought too when they got caught. This happened a while back when they caught a few of those agents selling visa's based on nothing. Just like yours.

    your claim that it is a legit visa is incorrect and that is what you are saying now too. So you just paid for a visa without qualifying. Its not legit.

    your risk your chance.

    Again your talking about permanent residency paying for it without qualifying also not legit. Of course he would say its a better option. I would agree if it was legit.. but its not.

    Seems you dont really get it.

    From memory those guys were given fake stamps.

    In this case, everything is issued officially, at immigration office by immigration officer.

    yeah and it s much better solution then being on overstay or tourist visas, once I had to overstay due to medical reasons because i was unaware that such a service do exist and I can always come out with the money (boring from relatives etc..) if I knew those solutions do exists.

    reading the different posts on this website no body ever mentioned those firm services especially to those in dire needs such as mine,

    so shortly if you wish to remain longer in Thailand and you have 70K or more it s worth checking the services of those firms and those firms looked like they have a fast and reliable solution to every problem as long as someone paid up their fees.

    "I ve just cleared a 10 months overstay at the Nong khai border crossing, no problems, just a moral lesson and some questions by the immigration officer paid the 20K Baht fine and had two stamps on my passport one with the exit stamp and one with the overstay case number with the total fine paid."

    10 months overstay due to medical reasons, what were you.............dead ?

    Also, genuine medical reasons would have allowed you to get medical extensions.

  13. Something tells me he wont be told rob, theres one born every minute apparently whistling.gif

    Non B is genuine. issued for the purpose of doing business or looking for business.

    However available at much cheaper prices than that.thumbsup.gif

    To change to a Non-B in Thailand it is for the purpose of employment, something the OP is not doing. You can't change in country to a Non-B because you are looking for business.
