  1. Sounds like you are mostly here to get laid. Are you qualified to get reasonably paid work in your home country? Then do, and come here on holiday for a few months a year, and then go back to work.

If that doesn't work or doesn't suit you, how about getting an education that enables you to do something else than teach English in Thailand?

Or, if it's more a matter of you thinking you don't get paid enough to be bored - study in order to get better qualifications so you can compete for the best paid teaching jobs - then you will get your 1000 baht per hour.

Yes , one of my reasons of being in TL is to get laid - nothing wrong with that - I'd say 90% of the single male Tefl teacher here is doing that . So going back home for 9 months kind of defeats the purpose.

I agree with Ken - qualifications mean shit all in this game - there are people at my job with Masters etc.. and they earn the same crumbs as me.

Basically I'm saying Tefl is a boring as hel_l job most of the time - the Thai students are generally thick as two short planks so that doesn't exactly help.

Go back and get an education you say - go ###### yourself I say!

  2. Sorry Chownah - that may be fine for the older generation how about the up-and-coming are you sentencing them to life on the farm? -

Well let's face it mijan , many Tefl teachers ARE helping the young farm girls in a far more rewarding manner than just a few 'conversation' classes - when was the last time you gave 1500B to a Thai girl to help her feed herself for a week ?

You just TAKE money from them with your over-inflated perception of yourself -'The Ajarn'.

    Tosser more like.

Oh no , the ticket girl on the 'tourist' boat can't speak English - she's only supposed to sell tickets not pander to white farang like some subservient maid that you seem to think she should.

Taxi and Tuk tuk drivers taking English classes - take your head out of your arse now before it's too late.

  3. guess this topic's been done to death elsewhere but , well hey it is Sunday..

any girls out there like Thai men - I guess if I were a woman I'd figure the majority were fairly ugly ,short specimens with little willies?

    Is this true -?

not meaning to offend anyone with a Thai boyfriend but most of the Western women I met before coming here seemed to give me that impression.

    :o

  4. can't say I've ever had any problems like this in Thailand - maybe the OP looks too respectable?

just grow a bit of stubble , undo the top 2 buttons of your shirt and they all think you're some kind of mad deranged farang from the bad side.

  5.   If you are here for just the ass, why are you overly serious about teaching?

er....like , I'm not......... serious about teaching that is.

    surely that's obvious.

I do my job professionally when I'm there and don't just follow a book (in fact I hardly use the book at all) , I also have a bit of a laugh etc.. but I still find it fairly dull. Some classes are ok and some of the kids are pleasant but OVERALL it's just humdrum.

I cannot see any of my adults jumping around and as I've already said, I'm arsed if I'm singing.

  6. mbkudo:

    well said ,

is there really any point being in TL doing Tefl if you can't get a good ###### at the same time - no way , it's not exactly top wages here either is it ...

now what I sometimes worry about though is meeting one of my students in a darkened massage room or go go bar - that could be a little awkward .....well I'd probably just by her a lady drink and take it from there......hehehe

  7. Singing songs and role-playing is essential English

that's a good point - I am studying Thai at the moment and can't really string a sentence together but I can sing one or two tunes in Thai.

This comes in quite handy at my local 7/11 - I ask them to change and item and when they don't understand me I just break into song - works a treat . Of course they still don't have a clue what I'm on about but they have a jolly good laugh and just do the refund anyway.....kind of abstract communication.

What songs do you teach by the way - I used to sing in a band a few years back , guess I'm on the right track. Will this help do you think?

  8. I do want them to learn stuff but basically it's up to them at the end of the day - singing songs, telling jokes etc.. isn't exactly teaching now is it.

I have been teaching for a couple of years now but just find it boring doing beginners as they all seem to be. Advanced stuff is stimulating to me but it's not up to me to bring them to that level.

So that is the crux of it really , I just find all this low level stuff tedious and moronic.

  9. Do more planning or start doing planning - whichever applies.  Put some thought into it.  If the lesson allows get the kids involved and make fun of them ( in the context of the lesson )  Act a little goofy to get points across- hide under a desk, stand on a chair, and so on for prepositions of place.

If you still dont want to do it, get another job or go home.  You are not doing yourself or the kids any favours.

are you off your rocker or something?

Firstly I never said I was teaching kids - they are mainly adults.

Now if you think I'm going to make a fool of myself standing on chairs, barking like a dog etc.. then you are mistaken. Pay me 1000B an hour and then perhaps, yes.

I'm not here to do anyone any favours - just trying to earn some cash as we all are and hopefully teach some knoweledge to those who want it.
