Rasg we have lived together in Thailand for 4-5 years, got a lot of money in the bank I have a house in the UK, will both be travelling to the UK for holiday and back to Thailand, the question is, what evidence her family will stay in her country whilst she is on holiday?

I am applying for visa for my partner to the UK on holiday, in the additional information question it asks for evidence that my partner's family will remain in her home country. There's no evidence of that, apart from just saying they don't travel far and don't have passports, is that enough?

Thailand doesn't allow foreigners on retirement visas to work either. Laos is a little bit more likely to turn a blind eye to working foreigners in general, though eventually they will start cracking down too. Already they are targeting unregistered Chinese and Vietnamese nationals performing menial work, the next step will probably be checking what farangs are doing. I give it a couple more years at most.
Tesco, Home Pro, Mega Home etc. stores in Nong Khai and Udon Thani are primarily intended for local Thais and Lao citizens crossing the border, nobody is going to open a hardware store on the Thai side for the 1 or 2 daily falang customers who claim to live in Vientiane. Geez, what's with the sense of western entitlement in this part of the world these days?
Some simple solutions: get a METV (maybe you can still apply for one despite what you claim), or a single entry Thai TV (with re-entry permits if you intend to re-enter within 2 months), fly in to Bangkok or Chiang Mai, travel to Vietnam, China or Cambodia instead, fly to another country. Get a Lao citizen to do your shopping for you. There are many solutions for Lao based westerners.Think you've lost the plot on Westerner's who live near the border of Thailand, whether it be Laos or Cambodia, see other posts about sending Laos or Cambodian people for their monthly shops to Tesco, massive inconvenience for expats, what they supposed to do, fly in from Vientiane or Phnom Penh and leg it across the border with their shopping? Get real, jimster.

Nonsense
You have not been here long enough, if indeed you are here, it can be yes or no, depends on the bank and circumstance and whether the bank or immigration officer is in a good mood, tourist or o visa, retiree ,country of origin, take your pick.

Sorry for late reply but I did not have a certificate of residence. My mum came to visit me and this week Krungsri in Emquartier shopping center (i know is long way from Jomtien) opened an account for her too. No questions asked she just had a copy of her 30 day lease and passport. She like me was given a Visa Debit card on the spot. If she was staying in Hotel they probably would not have accepted but as I got her an apartment in my building for 30 days she was able to show a rental contract which they did not read.
It varies from branch to branch plus the fact my g/f is Cambodian and not Western, this makes a lot of difference.

I wouldn't mention that I lived and drove in Thailand, most likely they would refuse or load the quote, happened to me after 3 years in New Zealand.

My laptop broke so I am on a tablet now, I can copy but doesn't paste on to the browser ( Google), been to the internet shop and tried different browsers as well, same result, just don't understand why this outfit called visa4 UK is making it so hard just to put an application in. It's not just me, looked on the internet and others are having difficulty to. Another problem is I,m no computer expert.

-
Can't get your non o visa in Hull, no problem, fly here as normal then go to Savannahet in Laos, they do non o based on marriage and pension! But they don't do tourist visa,s at the moment because there free so nothing in it for them.

Do you know how much the ATM charges for each withdrawal, a scandalous 200 bht + your bank charges at home, that's why if you're on a extended holiday you need a Thai bank account, for safety reasons at least.

Dunno, why bother, go to any border and get 30 days then an extension for another 30, who carries around bank statements?? And you may also leave Thailand at another land border, they try to promote tourism and then put these restrictions in place, just proves what a shambolic chaotic visa situation is in Thailand.

I tried to open a bank account for my g/f at Bangkok Bank and Krungsri refused as she is on a tourist visa. I will try Kasikorn bank more helpful and friendly i hear.

PP are now asking for bank statements and onward flight details with the application for a tourist visa.

In Phnom Penh at the moment and enquired about 60 day tourist visa, seems they want bank statements and onward flight details before they will issue one. Is it the same in all Thai embassy?

She has been living in Thailand with me for 4 years no problem, goes back to Cambodia every 60 or 90 days for a week then gets another visa. Never had a question asked if she goes through had lek border on her own. Flying in she's with me and never had a problem, only when immigration fails to see her SETV and gives her 14 days instead of 60, then it's a trip to Jomtien immigration and pay 500 bht to to put it right what they got wrong in the first p!ace.
