Was in the city center on Wednesday. For a route in which I normally need 2 to 2 and a half hours in the rush by bus, I completed in 55 minutes. Buses good prepared for social distancing.

Around my village the local shops have been told not to sell alcohol by the Puy Yai Ban or else face the consequences.
Wether they will comply remains to be seen.
I stocked up to last until the end of May.
Here where i live in Bangkok the small shops sell alcohol only backdoors these days, and only for people they knowing very well and can trust them. So till now, no problem at all. My Thai friend owns such small shop, where i am a truly customer over the last 6 years nearly daily, showed me his depot, one big room full of boxes of good stuff. Enough for a couple of weeks.

And that is where on Phuket?
I dont know in Phuket. U can try any small mama shop. But if they dont know you, probably they will not sell. Some worry of heavy penalties, some dont care. I live here in Bangkok little bit outside of center wheres a hotspot for locals mostly from Issan who working here. So everything is available, but these days only backdoors.

Many are choosing not to do so because of the hefty fine if caught selling
They are selling, but only for people they knowing very well. Its here in Bangkok same situation. Some shops were even checked by the police and can not offer alcohol inside fridge or inside store. But u can go backdoors, and if the owner knows you, no problem to buy anything. Where i live we have about 8 small stores in between 400 meters, everybody knows me and my wife very well so i dont worry.

I sit on the same boat as you. My wife is running a small business in Bangkok. Now forced to stop. We try also to sit it out, as long as we can. I stay in Thailand for 31 years and this is the first time i been forced to prepare a plan B for me and my family. And this includes to leave Thailand, if the crisis will take a longer time. 2 days ago i was at my embassy here in Bangkok, to discuss the possibility to take my wife back to my country and start a small business over there. My opinion is that the tourism in Thailand will never be the same, as it was before. Dont count on it, that many Farangs will return to Phuket, because of the worldwide crisis. Also many farangs will not forget, how bad they treated in these difficult days. I see a new kind of tourism could starting with a lot of Chinese at Phuket, but everybody know that locals will have not much profit of the well organized chinese tour groups. Also Cambodia build up cities for the Chinese as for example in Sihanoukville to made a second Macao for them. So i think the Chinese hords will like it more there , than at Phuket, where casinos are not allowed. Also the cost of living there is a lot chaeper than in Phuket, so the chinese touroperators will get more profit, when they direct their folk to Cambodia. I worked many years as a tour operator so i still in contact with a few guys. So prepare your plan B for you and your family is my advice to you. Good luck, stay healthy and be strong at these days.

I am in Laos.
I am renting a lovely house with shaded garden seating, so being on partial lockdown is bearable.
Reading books, computer games to play, good stock of movies and live T.V. Good stock of beer Lao, and Laos whisky, and many places doing food delivery.
Unfortunately I am alone, my lady is stuck in BKK for now, heaven knows when she will be back home.
Good to get out for a ride around the deserted streets on motorbike occasionaly, to buy Baguettes, cheese and other goodies.
No sign of an alcohol ban here yet, but who knows?
So to sum up, missing my better half and getting a touch of cabin fever, but, things could be much worse.
I think u dont need to worry for an alcohol ban in Laos. Good luck for you.

But it only seems to be affecting Bangkok at this point which is a waste of time and effort. If people really want to buy alcohol it is fairly easy to do.
If you are a regular customer at a Mom and Pop shop there shouldn't be a problem to get your favourite tipple.
In reality it will only affect 7/11 and supermarkets like BigC, Tesco and Makro etc.
Exactly, my mom shop confirmed me today, i dont need to worry for my daily 4-6 big Chang are safed for the next days maybe next weeks. But only take away and drink at home. So nothing happened here in Bangkok. Dont worry, be happy and enjoy ur social distancing at home.

i waited already 31 years and nothing happened.

They are ramping up the penalties for illegal sales so don't be so sure!
I am sure of this. Normally we also sit on special holidays when beer sale is not allowed, outside of the small shops, but beer is under the table. Police driving thru every day between 5 and 6pm here. On very problematic days, as it was on election days where high penalties was set, the owner asked us to drink beer at home only. Now at these days i stay at home everyday to practise social distancing and this would not be possible without a couple of bottles of beer.

it will affect you. these small shops stock up every 2 days from makro etc.
can't be compared to a 1-2 day buddhist ban
no no i live here the 6th year, on the main road are 2 big shops with a lot of boxes of beers. They sell also alcohol on special holidays back door for Thais only. The small shop owners can buying also on Buddhist holidays or on election days. Jumping on the motorbike and in between a couple of minutes refill of beer is guaranteed 365 days a year.
So no problem for sure. I will go visit at 5 pm to my favourit shop and will confirm that with him.

Does not affect me. A lot of small shops where i live, will sell to me my afternoon beers anyway. Only different will be the transport for the few meters to my home. Have to use instead a plastic bag my old small backpack, where a six pack of Big Chang can be placed easily.

This is my 32nd year in Thailand. We run a small business. Zero income now. We have some savings and probably will survive if the worst is over in about 2 – 3 months. But should this crisis takes longer, we will be done. So this all forced me for the first time in all the long years here in Thailand to make a Plan B with thinkings to leave Thailand forever and take my Thai wife (19 years together) with me and go back to my country. Have already a appointment at my embassy next week, to discuss and clear some things for my emergency Plan B. So if the crises is longer than expected i am out of here. Will force me to start a new life episode. Sorry for my bad english. Good luck for you all.

Thought I'd think positively so I bought a Nok Air fly + ride ticket to Mukdahan a few hours ago. Cost was 4173, including extras like seats and meals. That didn't last long! Two hours later I read that all visa issuance had ceased for Laos. Nok Air said sorry that ticket is nonrefundable.
My third extension of a Non-O (marriage) expires on April 5. The reason I'm not renewing is that my wife isn't available to attend Immigration with me. I'll try to get it switched to retirement, having more than 12 months of 65,000+ transfers from the US to show.
If that fails (and Nonthaburi IO is not always the most sympathetic place on earth), I hope Myanmar stays open and I can do a bounce at the Ban Phu Nam Ron crossing. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I may just have to throw myself on the mercy of the powers that be in the end.
Sorry Phu Nam Ron is closed from Saturday due an article from Bangkok Post about an hour ago. Thailand start to close more borders. Check it out. Kanchanaburi governor Jirakiat Phumsawad ordered the suspension of the Phu Nam Ron permanent checkpoint in Muang district and the Three Pagodas crossing in Sangkhla Buri from Saturday to April 3.

Does anyone know if we can still do the 500 baht border bounce into Myanmar via Kanchanaburi?
I did there an visa run on 16/03 monday. 950THB all done in 45minutes.

Definitely not. Vietnam is basically closed to westerners for 30 days and you'd need to fly there or pass through Laos or Cambodia first. What the OP and everyone in his situation needs is an open border with a direct neighboring country that can be accessed by road.
I did a visa run at Phu Nam Ron Thai-Myanmar border this monday. No problems there. Payed 960THB. All done in 45 minutes. Maybe a option.
