  1. All my Thai neighbors hate me because I yell at them in Thai when having to clean up their dogs' mess after their dogs leave such mess in front of our gate where I have to either clean it up or step in it when opening/closing our gate while they stand there watching me clean it up.

    Suits me just fine.

this is thailand not your nanny state country where you were born. you should not yell and raise your voice in my opinion

  2. We moved into an old house in the centre of town. The main entrance is via the rear of the house. I am writing this thread to ask your opinion as to whether we should ask the landlord if we can make things more secure.

Referring to the 1st photo, our washing machine is outside and we had to insert the water pipe through the mozzie screen via the louvre window. it means that we obviously cant close the louvre windows anymore due to that window panel being obstructed by the pipe.

Even if we didn't have the pipe through that window i.e. if it was completely closed, louvre windows are really easy to break into aren't they? The security bars are on the inside - behind the glass. What are your thoughts on this?

Referring to the 2nd photo, Is this steel framed door any good. On the left side where the bolt passes through attached to the main wall.... I speculate that this could be knocked off using a sledge hammer. Its only around 5cm in width and its obviously welded on but I wonder if it could simply be knocked off with the back of an axe head or a sledge hammer. Should I be putting on a better lock somehow?

If someone wants to rob your house they will get in some way or another I presume. Do you think having CCTV is a deterrent?

    Thanks for any opinions. post-239628-0-26878700-1440828343_thumb.post-239628-0-42556400-1440828349_thumb.

  3. my old macbook pro is on its last legs. Im about to buy a new macbook pro with retina. I currently have the 15inch but find it a bit heavy. Im thinking of opting for a 13 inch this time.

If you have a 13 inch and have any regrets can you share your thoughts. I presume that when I open up any program (ie chrome, word etc) that the size of the font is still normal (if I were to be using a 15 inch).

    cheers

  4. I seek the help from any farang that might have electrical knowledge.

We have a 'houseworth' oven- a big one thats twice the size of a normal microwave oven. We just moved into a new old house and I used the oven for the first time tonight. I plugged it into one of those 4 prong power adaptors that I plugged into a normal powerpoint in the wall. After 5 min the 4 prong power thing cut out. It has a cut out switch (safety switch) and it automatcally turned off. I threw that one in the bin and tried another 5 prong swtich adaptor. The same thing happened. Does it mean that the white square powerpoint switch in the wall is dodgy. Is it dangerous to continue using?

    thanks

  5. I will soon be purchasing the new apple macbook pro with retina and at work I have a standard LAN cable that currently plugs into my existing 5 yr old MBPro laptop.

The new retina laptops have a different port and thus I have to get an adaptor to be able to plug in the LAN cable. There are 2 options:

Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

    or

    Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter
    Which one should I buy?
    thanks
  6. Im happy to be using Line premium calls to phone the nanny state where I was born (instead of using skype).

However, when I go to purchase credit the system only allows me to add 100 credits / 30 baht which is too low. How can I increase the amount to credit?

    thanks

  7. I cant believe how daft the ebay software is. It says go to the purchase history pagea nd then the more actions link. That is where the 'ask ebay to step in link should be. But its not there. I think it might be because the user has de-registered. Thus maybe I should go to paypal. What a joke ebay is...

  8. HI there

I paid for an item on ebay last month and didnt receive the item. I tried to contact the seller who has de-registered his ebay account. The system told me to wait until today and the message last week said ''if theres no response we will step in.... blah blah'

Today Im back in ebay trying to find the area where ebay can help me and Im going around in circles. Ive tried in the resolution centre and then another window opens that Ive already seen.

Why these companies make it so difficult to resolve an issue and get in contact with them...

Ive tried opening the customer services link but still cant find the relevant area.

Can you provide step by step instructions about how to resolve this issue? or provide a link

    thanks

  9. If you're a teacher based in Isaan have you tried the online reporting method instead of driving to immigration and waiting in line...

I'm currently reading up on online reporting now but if you have already done it successfully perhaps you could share your comments / experiences.

    cheers

  10. This thread is to recommend a house for rent in Surin Isaan.

Its a single house that is around 2 yrs old and still obviously in new condition and is located in a high end village- the housing estate villages where all the houses look the same.

Its a 3 b/r and 2 bathroom house with a nice size garden. It has one big air con in the lounge but none of the 3 bedrooms have air con. Its ok for you to install your own and remove it when you move out. This is what the last farang tenant did and they got their bond back.

The landlords are 2 kind-hearted Thai ladies. They are sisters and are pleasant to deal with. They only want a months bond 8000 baht and first month 8k in advance. This house is priced correctly bc of the quality and location.

I have nothing to gain from raising this thread and only trying to help the owners as they are really nice thai ladies. They also have a double story house close by that has a huge garden. I think that they want 15k for that one.

Anyways drop me a line if you want their contact details. You will have to speak thai or have your misus do the talking. its a fine house and dogs are allowed.

    cheers

  11. I do not want to marry again and will not do do under any set of circumstances.I also do not enjoy living alone. It is possible to find a younger lady that will live with you and take care of you by becoming a housekeeper/companion at a specified monthly rate of compensation. I am now 76 years old and was married to my Thai wife for 23 years before she succumbed to cancer in January. of this year at age 57. Two houses of course were in her name and in accordance with what my wife would have wanted went to two of her sisters with my absolute consent. They have been terrific in taking care of me for the last 5 months with daily stop-bys bringing food, doing housekeeping chores, laundry, etc. Would have been very difficult without them. I now have a 35-year old live-in that has been here all of 3 weeks but it looks like she might last. She now has health insurance for accidents, a bank account which she never had before, and a gym membership. She knows that she can make trips to see her 3-year old daughter in Nong Khai as as often as she likes. There is no expectation of love but I hope a mutual fondness and sense of caring develops both ways - so far, so good, kniock on wood. If she does last I will amend my last will and testament to compensate her for however long she has looked after me. Probably some factor of how long vs.hiow much a month. If the timing permits I will establish another banki account to handle the "separation" compensation. Can anyone think of anything else I should consider such as sending her to school to learn some kind of a trade that would provide some income after my demise? Constructive comments appreciated.

you want constructive comments... dont tell her that she is in your new Will. Obvious reasons really

  12. I married so it was "possible" to get half my investment back if we parted. My place has doubled in value so it could be "possible" to get all my investment back...But...........whistling.gif .............laugh.png

this is a valid response / reason for getting married. Also, if your lady gets preggers then it will be necessary to get married so that the family does not lose face. There you go OP ... 2 reasons

  13. I think you need to correct your OP. You mention 2 native teachers? I read that as Thai yet you then mention Work Permits which are not needed for Thais. If you DO mean Thais, my step-daughter is a newly qualified teacher; a native of Prasat near Surin. She is looking for a job. Her speciality is very young ones.

I think you might have to correct your eyesight ( only joking). It was about a retired Thai guy, ( the friend of the OP) but obviously not seeking Thai nationals.

Then the Thai guy with his good connections with all schools, wouldn't need a foreigner to post a job offer here, don't you think?

And if that's not enough proof, then why would he want the nationality and other details, if it's for a Thai citizen? Just curious. wai2.gif

Considering that there is a shortage of foreign teachers in most towns in Issan I would speculate that you don't know what your talking about mr lostinissan... Not all foreign teachers want to work in Issan as most opt for the more favourable jobs in bkk. You do seem to write daft comments on all threads that I read on this forum. Perhaps one day you will think before your fingers hit the keyboard.

    cheers
