Not sure how much expats contribute to the economy. I am no economist, but I think the end result will be less revenue collected because of the multiplier effect of retail spending.
The equation would be: revenue increase = (new tax revenues collected) - (number of people who leave because of taxes) * (amount of fees and taxes, especially VAT collected per person leaving). So if enough people stay, income outweighs the leavers. Furthermore, one might argue it probably improves Thailand by reducing the number of fat white bellies on beaches. LOL

Thailand seeks to balance public health concerns while offering some stability to the cannabis industry
Well, this does not stabilize the cannablis industry, it protects the hemp industry and destroys the cannabis industry. It's fun to watch them try to put the genie back in the bottle here. The fact is this will gore a lot of oxen, so politically it will be a fun fight. Not over yet I think.

Ms. Ma'am, a female staff member,
Thanks for clarifying. I thought someone named "Ms. Ma'am" would for sure be a male.

So that makes it ok to stab someone then?
LOL this exact argument happens with every article of every fight in Thailand on this forum. "Thais do this" and "Brits do that." LOL enjoy the freak show and relax.

Sheesh, you get convicted for just one lousy bribery offense and people act like they can't trust you any more! What's the world coming to?

In 2000, Holly, then aged 29, was caught trying to mail a parcel of heroin to her family in Perth
OK now that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of in my life. Reminds me of a couple once that killed the woman's husband so they could run off together, and took pictures of the body dismemberment. They had the pics developed at Walgreens. Derp derp.

The majority of Thai drivers do not belong behind the wheel of any vehicle. Not in a car park...and certainly not out on the roads.
I think this is because traffic laws are not well enforced in Thailand. Maybe if the police were more evident on the road, and actually enforced a traffic rule once in a while, people would drive better? Naturally the subject of bribes is important, as driver licenses are optional here and if you want you can just go buy one and skip the tests from what I've heard.

As a person with no religion, I don't see much difference between this boy and any other religious claims.

Why is he reported as an israeli? What difference does his nationality make?
The nationality of people is usually reported in articles in the news in Thailand. It also doesn't really matter that it was a motorbike taxi, or that it was 6pm but it's included. It's just a norm here. What's the problem with it? I guess nowadays it's perhaps a bit embarrassing to be from Israel, but the reporter is probably not intending it any particular way.

How about the mental health issues from alcohol and the societal effects of it? We should start by banning alcohol, which kills so many people on the roads each year in Thailand among other problems. Blaming marijuana for mental health issues and ignoring alcohol is just ignorant.

There is a reason why many laws in many countries take a long time from the first idea to actually becoming a law.
If you are implying it's because great due diligence is done in order to evaluate the effects, I disagree. The delay is in order to line up the profits of all the corporate stakeholders. Rarely are there representatives of the working class or average citizen in the process. I'd rather have a poorly crafted bill that then gets canceled because it's a shipwreck than the finely crafted PATRIOT Act in the USA.

Also expect low to zero increase in fatalities and a renewed call for authoritarian measures to "save the elderly" or whatever they can do to prop up booster sales.

So does that mean you will have to go to the post office for every package coming in from another country to pay this BS tax? On top of this, they are working overtime trying to find how they can extract more money from expats living here. There are better places in this world to be and I for one will be moving on. Get out while you can because things are just going to get worse in the future.
exactly. I'm in the middle of trying to figure out how to get FedEx to deliver my vitamins I ordered from Amazon. I have to submit a passport, give someone power of attorney, and fill in some forms. Bureaucracy here can be maddening! LOL

Why place the onus on the hospital staff, the visitors should learn a little patience & perhaps a little Thai language, the leaflet idea is good providing they address the suitable questions and can then be easily translated into many languages with perhaps information on where to obtain additional information if required.
Because "profits over people" is a constant in society. This kind of behavior obviously could be solved quickly by just refusing service to anyone that violates your policy. But that would cost money.

So why did your comment make no mention of alcohol?
All you said was "Yeah , time to re-criminalize cannabis"
I agree, they should do more to stop people drinking to excess. Through financial education would probably be the best option, starting when kids are very young. It's called "sarcasm" which is a form of "humor."

Why does it matter if he is an engineer? Would it be different if he was a salesman? A pilot? An office clerk?
I think so. The salesman would beat them with a better price, the pilot wouldn't be so flighty, and the office clerk would probably just file it all away under "lessons learned."

Is there any evidence that poor airport screening has anything to do with these bad actors? Wouldn't the rampant police corruption and bribery be a more logical place to start looking than slowing everyone down at the airport? Smells like security theatre.

Why are we seeing so many foreigners in Thailand with mental illness?
Maybe because of the lack of social fabric, whether it be families (decimated) or public programs (never adequate), to deal with their mental illness. They come here looking for an easy life and their problems come with them. Maybe?

Something tell me this is not just a moment, but part of a pattern. You don't do this kind of thing just once in a while. As long as there is clear evidence, then let's just throw him off a fishing boat in deep water, and let the sharks have him.

Don’t know why Thailand attracts that special kind of human being, but that’s it.
I think it's because it's cheap and easy to live here, and people of the type you mention (some are female btw) are unable to hold a job or get up in the morning or interact with their own cultures so they take refuge here.
