As far as I remember, you enter your passport details online and a renewal application form is prepared for you which you then have to print out, sign, and send by EMS Thai Post with photo and a self-addressed envelope. Payment was made and acknowledged online and a paper receipt sent with the new passport. I used different digital photos to the original hard copy ‘cos I didn’t really like it anyway.

I renewed my Australian passport online a few months ago via the embassy in Bangkok. The studio photo was rejected for being too glossy and unscanable. They asked me to send a digital photo by email so I sent 2 different photos and asked them to choose. They chose the one taken against a white wall by my phone.. Excellent communication and service, and the new passport arrived in 2 weeks.
