  1. 9. Map to residency (names of roads and house marked in Thai and GPS coordinates) - Wow now with GPS coordinates, getting more and more weird but I guess you are right - last time we had to draw 2 maps by hand (no google-maps allowed)

    10. 3 Pictures, one showing you outside the house with wife and house number visible, One in bedroom, One showing time relaxing. - Quite bizarre with the bedroom pic but some IO gets a kick out of it I guess

As Jempi71 say : try call your local Immigration cause they make up their own rules as they go ...

  2. Chesterpot : I agree with Jacksam. Why you want to buy a condo when you can rent a nice place for 15-20,000B per month (be careful of renting from PH tho ... PM me if you want Company name)

Beachproperty rent for 3-5,000B per month is not gonna happen unless you and your gf are satisfied with a small studio in a crappy condominium and even then you have to pay probably 7,000B

Finally I hope you are aware of the situation with Chiang Mai Immigration - if not then read the thread "Promenada Imm. one stop" - maybe that will make you change your mind to live in CM ...

  3. Ubonjoe took care of your visa-Q so thats clear.

70,000B is plenty per month and a studio/condo for about 10-12,000B absolutely possible for a decent place. TW and I live in a very quiet and well run condominium - not too big and close to Mountains, lake, beautiful nature - PM me if you want the name and location.

You have probably already investigated your self but before you decide for CM as your future home you might want to consider 2 Things :

    # Smog season, very bad for many people

    # CM Immigration, not good at all and things can take a very bad turn - try read the thread about the new Promenada Imm.

Good luck with your move and let me know if I can help

  4. In Chiang Mai in on-line appointment queue has been stopped, but previously booked appointments are being honored, even if you don't have a confirmation printout. Go to the new office at Promenada for retirement extensions and the old one near the Airport for marriage extensions. Tell the I/O you're there a couple minutes before the time of your appointment.

On-line 90 day reporting seems to be hit-and-miss for Chiang Mai and no one seems to know quite why. It worked OK for Hubby, but not for me.

There was one report of someone being told that 90 day reporting by mail has been stopped in Chiang Mai, but that's it -- just one isolated report. It would make no sense to stop mail-in 90 day reporting -- it has been working so well. But little that Chiang Mai Immigration has been doing lately makes any sense at all.

Meanwhile, I'd suggest that Chiang Mai residents still mail-in their 90 day reports. Detailed instructions can be found in a pinned topic at the top of the Chiang Mai forum.

I've heard several reports of them pulling aside people who come in person to file 90 day reports to question them about the lack of TM 30 on file. Or doing home visits if the owner of the dwelling where they reside (like their wife) didn't file a TM 30. This is a one-time filing that until recently Immigration didn't seem to care about. They came to our condo building and talked with the Juristic Person Mgr about how some of the foreign renters didn't have TM30s on file and there are reports of home visits in Chiang Mai to people on retirement visas where this question has come up.

Thanks for the heads up, Nancy. The more threads I have been reading the last days + wife talking to Imm.Officer at Prom. makes me think that CM Imm. actually want most expats to leave CM ... Seems odd when they would be taking away their own jobs (and benefits ...whistling.gif ) but it just getting worse and we are actually considering to leave for another place ... sad that these people have the power to make people leave sad.png

  5. Well damn. Why did they staple the reminder in my passport telling me to notify again on 22 Aug?

Since I'm already on the hook for the 2000, might as well just forgo the remaining 90 day reports and pay the 2000 fine next year when I extend again.

    Be aware!

The maximum fine for failing to do 90 day reports is 5000........

Reports can also be done on line or by mail.

Online only by a lucky few I think - Maybe TV could do a Survey to find out quite how many can do it online ... ?

  6. connda, I agree with all you say ... Thais dont have any manners unless directed to another thai, they are extremely xenophobic - In the West we would call it racist.

English 1 is right that thais are jealous cause many westeners have more Money (very important in Land of $), are better educated, have more knowledge (know Earth is not flat) and dosent have to pick their nose 20 times per day ...

Of course your post is disliked by the Group that think all thais is bliss - even if a LB rape them they just love it ...gigglem.gif

Dont know what you should do about your wifes sister and horrible children - maybe just not invite them again ... thumbsup.gif

  7. Didnt realise it would be such a touchy subject for everyone. I can see everyones point of view. I accept full responsibility for not being correctly informed about the procedure. I incorrectly assumed visiting bangkok immigration would be easier than visiting my local hua hin branch because i was already here for a shopping trip.

And then i incorrectly assumed the foreigner registration procedure wasnt an issue due to the fact i was only going to be here for 2-3 days while my van was being repaired in hua hin.

And after hearing everyones opinions and getting more information .. yes i was lucky to be granted extension, yes i was lucky they didnt fine my friends for me staying there.

What irritated me was not the actions of the IO, but her attitude. She offered no help or explanations and that is what left me so angry, and at the end of it all she didnt want to give out her officer ID, if she had a clear conscience and believed she had done nothing wrong i dont see why she would refuse to provide the officer ID. Thanks for the advice guys it helped cool me down.

Maybe she was just having a bad day.

We all have bad days =/ grab a beer and relax i guess.

I can imagine what happend with this Immigration officer ... Some of them are very nice (like my 90 day report last time) but ... some are as you put it "a pain in the arse" ...

Guess can meet officials like that all over the World but fact is that Immigration have to follow the law of Immigration which dosent mean that they should not be helpful to people and thats were it gets pear shaped cause Immigration are part of RTP and when have RTP ever been helpful to anyone ... Never ...

I dont mind going to Immigration and spend most of the day doing nothing but my TW hate the Immigration and their hi-so arrogance and lazyness (her Words) ...

Oh well, at least the officer didnt try to extort you for some tea-money like a certain officer opposite Promenada, CM, does ...
