  1. As the OP says and others nothing to worry about if everything is in order. Just doing there job

If only that was true ... How do you think the bombers entered Thailand ... ?

Is it "doing their job" to extort foreigners app for Cert. of Res. or a WP ?

  2. The sad thing is that this is problably normaly around the country. I have seen a scene a few years ago when a police officer came into a restaurant and got food served and left without paying after he left I have noticed that the restaurant staff gathered talked about him and were swearing... I did not really understand what it was all about but it definetly but it definetly looked like that the staff were not happy about the presence of the police officer....

A few months ago wife and I were in Udon Thani, Centara Hotel and every morning policeofficers were having breakfast there, sometimes with their mia nois ...

We talked to other guests about it and they felt very uncomfortable about it with these uniformed goons carrying guns at breakfast ... I guess most people by now what this policeforce are like - a loose trigger finger and a small brain to say the least ...

When we asked the manager what was going on, he just smiled a stupid smile and shook his head - never gonna go back to Centara, Udon T. for sure ...

  3. Just back from I/O at Promenada.

Online queue appointment for 1330. Called my name at 1355. The officer was curt but efficient. Didn't acknowledge my "Sawasdee", and definitely wasn't interested in any small talk. Just the same, he did smile a couple times and checked all my paperwork. Passport copies, Photo, Bank letter and book and copies (although he did return the copies). Did not ask for any address verification, in fact, asked for nothing at all as this is my 13th year and I do supply correct paperwork as required. He took a computer photo and my payment. It was good to see that it only takes one person to do this now instead of separate steps at the old office.

He stamped my passport and filled in the blanks as necessary. Very efficient. This took exactly 15 minutes and technically was finished. NOT! He told me to come back about 4:30 to collect my passport as he added it to the pile of waiting paperwork. If only they would use common sense and give their officers or someone in the office the authority to complete this process and just hand you back your passport it would be a basically painless 15 minute task.

I came back at 4:00 just as they called my name. Finished for another year. How will it be in 2016?

NB that the requirement for proof of address is now written on the piece of paper that details what documentation to bring.

I didn't see any piece of paper stating any requirements. HOWEVER, as I had heard of this possibility I did bring it (lease agreement) with me. At the old office they usually at least asked my address and a few other questions. As I posted above, This time I wasn't asked anything.

In my experience it is best to be prepared for every possibility. Taking into account what is posted here over the previous months, everyone's experience may differ. I brought a copy of my Q online appointment, I made a copy of every used page in my passport. I made sure I did a money transfer from my account on the day I obtained my bank letter (the day before going to immigration as has always been my practice). Checked the letter and the current balance matched, made copies of each page in the bank book, brought a copy of my lease, brought my old passport and my old bank book. You never know, so bring everything.

You are so right - on my next trip to Prom. Imm. I will bring a letter from my old Mom saying what a good boy I am - never know if they are gonna ask for it ... This place is a Waste of time or what ...

  4. Man I can't believe this place.1 sensible post and the rest complete childish nonsense.

Surely the important thing here is the police by whatever means possible catch every last one of these suspects and no one else suffers.

20 people died and all you can come up with is sick jokes about the police who seem to be doing a first class job.

If there's 12 or 12 dozen involved the more they lock up the better

clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif How much did you pay for your job in RTP ... gigglem.gif ?

  5. Chesterpot : I agree with Jacksam. Why you want to buy a condo when you can rent a nice place for 15-20,000B per month (be careful of renting from PH tho ... PM me if you want Company name)

Beachproperty rent for 3-5,000B per month is not gonna happen unless you and your gf are satisfied with a small studio in a crappy condominium and even then you have to pay probably 7,000B

Finally I hope you are aware of the situation with Chiang Mai Immigration - if not then read the thread "Promenada Imm. one stop" - maybe that will make you change your mind to live in CM ...

  6. What does one do with a palm civet? Is it a pet? Destined for the kitchen? Or are they sold to coffee growers?

I saw (what I think) was one on my soi last month...looked them up and they are common, ie not endangered, so why are they protected? And if they are protected, how do the coffee growers keep them?

You can see many endangered animals every evening at Bangla road, Patong, where these criminals take pics of stupid tourists holding the animals ...

I happens openly in front of Tourist Police that as usual dont do anything when they "patrol" Bangla ...

  7. We were there yesterday too, okay to get something to eat and watch some thai dances etc.

Not surprised only to see a few foreigners there since all the Lanna Expo posters and signs are only in thai as far as I have seen ... Too bad they dont have a shuttle going from around Night Market to Convention Center - I bet lots of tourists would come see it

  8. I think Jomtien Immigration office must be one of, if not the most 'customer friendly' office in Thailand. I've never had an issue with them, but I still hate having to go there, because I know they could, at a whim, terminate my stay here in LOS. It's a bit like going to the dentist, and wondering when/whether they'll inflict pain by touching a sensitive nerve whilst probing around, even though you're only going for a check-up and clean.

Lucky that you dont live in Chiang Mai with the worst Immigration in Thailand, making their own rules and Laws as they go by ...

To visit CM Immigration is like having a root Canal treatment - just a pain in the a.. those people
