Delete this post immediately.  I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that somehow you copied someone else's post and pasted it under my name by mistake.  I never stated what the above and believe the opposite.

I apologise and do not know how this happened. The quote should have been attributed to John Phuket. Apologies again.

Wake up Guys ! sooner or later Thai Immigration will ask retirees for a copy of their Thai Tax return and/or their Bank Books  in order to grant a long stay visa. .

Again, as I have said earlier in this looooooooong post, what about those that do not need to register for a TIN or make tax returns for whatever reason? It is not quite as clear cut as you describe about waking up to. Any thoughts like that need a lot of thinking about before any implementation can even be considered.

by the way the maximum guarantee on your account is 1 million bath, still something to worry about.

Yes, you are correct. But if any bank like Bangkok Bank is going to go under, there will be plenty of warning signs to give time to move elsewhere. But it is no different anywhere else in the world. Any bank can go under for any number of reasons.

NOT nonsense! Immigration doesn't care how many days you spend in Thailand - if you are filing for an annual extension, they will probably be instructed to require the retiree to file a tax return for approval. Add to that how every immigration office follows their own interpretation of the rules and you have a recipe for the perfect cluster kcuf.

But as I have stated elsewhere in this topic, what if you do not need to file a tax return?? There are those who would not need to.

Expats here are in denial plain and simple. In Thailand you have to do a yearly extension. I bet a dollar to donut it will be tired to the yearly extension..

I have to do a yearly extension which is actually in December. But here is a hypothetical scenario for you regarding a tax return being tied to an extension. Have a very large inheritance which started paying out beginning of year and final payment in November. Not subject to tax in Thailand. Can easily live on that without worrying about any other finances coming into Thailand and can just accept any tax on interest payments from the bank. Do not need to invest in markets etc so in essence, do not need to ever make a tax return.

Other expats could be in similar situations one way or another with shrewd investing before Jan 2024 ensuring there was enough funds here, so how could you tie the return and Immigration together?

Herniated disk can cause pain on either side, just depends on where the disk bulges.

There are other causes of back pain as well, not just herniated disk.

Spinal operations are done in multiple Bangkok hospitals both public and private. But it is far from clear the OP needs surgery. We don't know how long the pain has been present nor its cause. Sounds like he has not had a proper diagnosis.

A lower herniated disc will affect the left leg and a higher herniated disc will affect the right shoulder and arm.

I was just putting forward a suggestion. Yes, a proper diagnosis is required though.

  7. Which leg are you getting pain in? If the left leg then you could have a herniated disc nucleus pulposus. I have been diagnosed with this as well as a degenerative bone condition of the spine. Basically the fluid in the discs leaks out onto nerve endings in the spine which affects the left leg.

I was given a good support corset by the hospital in Chumphon and this has made a big difference.

For spinal operations there is only one hospital in Bangkok that would entertain this as a last resort.

Dont get sick or have an accident, the medical charges for foreigners are way more higher than for tuk tuks. And dont come without medical insurance.

I am afraid that I must dispute this statement. Back in 2016 I had an op for a stoma hernia at Prachuap Khiri Khan hospital. I had 4 nights in a private room. Somebody from my village had the same op, private room, same hospital and my bill was actually cheaper and I had stayed an extra night!!
I now have private medical insurance and the bills are the same no matter where you are from and have never seen any signs in the 2 private hospitals I use saying foreigners will pay x% more!!

  9. If you are sending documents to HMRC via DHL the address is HMRC, Benton Park View, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE98 1ZZ.

This is the only address you can use for courier service. And DHL is the quickest way to get the documents there.

Just as a footnote, documents I sent by Thailand Post EMS were somewhere in the air for 8 days!!! Never use them again!

What about all those house developpers in Hin Lek Fai- Hua Hin who are totally irresponsable and encourage over watering of private lawns or do not attend to leaks in the underground water pipes within their developpments that have leaks and waste ?

Authorities must impose sanctions and fines to such developpers who are openly neglecting their duties and wasting precious water.

The water for Hin Lek Fai comes from Pranburi Dam and is separate to the main town of Hua Hin.

I used this company back in 2015 when I moved out here. They are extremely professional and took care of everything. Packed and wrapped everything then took to their depot and placed in a container and shipped here. They have a company here who then took the goods out of the container and deliver. Could not fault them or the service.

Or, the Immigration people will require you to prove taxes were paid and any Revenue needs were satisfied, before you can extend your visa

I find this scenario highly unlikely. You have 2 totally different departments for a start. Immigration have enough paperwork to sift through and to impose this onto them would make extensions extremely hard work. Especially when quite a few, like myself I suspect, do not need to register for tax. And no, I have not got an LTR or anything. Just have enough money over here for us to live comfortably.

I don't think that anyone will come knocking on your door.  It's possible that you will just be doing the routine paperwork for an extension and suddenly the IO will ask "Where are your Thai Tax Documents.....?  No Documents No Extension?"  Just a guess.  It could be official policy or an IO just jerking your chain.  The way things work around here you just never know.

That would be an interesting scenario for me. I stopped remitting money to Thailand in Dec 2023. I am due a sizeable inheritance which is not liable for taxation here and we can live off that easily. Therefore no TIN or any other tax documents! Only papers from my solicitors to state this is inheritance money, which are submitted to my bank here.

There may be many other people who are in similar situations who do not need to remit money here for whatever reason.
This is why I really do not reckon tax documents etc will ever be part of obtaining an extension of stay. To much hassle for them to sort this all out.
