  1. Went into U N pub on Friday specifically to ask about forthcoming event as i hadn't seen anything advertised and thought that this would be the place to find out.The 3 people behind the bar knew very little about it. I pointed to the ad on the pillar but they didn't know anything really.

Anyone have info re:start times for both days, how many teams competing, beer tent, programme ?

    Thanks

  2. To big3116

How would it break the law ? Students are in another country and you are paid from that other country in US dollars. Therefore not taking $$ away from TH, in fact spending it here. You are contracting with a company therefore in your own business. Can't farangs employed in TH have their own business too ? Same with those on retirement visa

  3. Attrayant:

I started teaching online and initially made up my own lesson plans, mostly taken from "Interchange" from Cambridge Press but then I found that because most of my students were high intermediate to conversation and 90% professionals (Drs, Lawyers etc) or upper management, I scoured the news and Google for articles, pertaining to their position, online and taught from that. Mostly reading to help with inflections etc.

Being an RN in my day I also did some proof reading for a Doctor who sent in articles to be published in the AJM. I was getting $22 US/hr for teaching with bonus lessons based on how many lessons they paid for. For proof reading I charged $5 US per page.

I looked into other online opportunities and found that a couple of Korean companies have their own lesson plans that they require you to follow. I prefer to do my own thing. It must be working as 2 of my students have been with me for about 7 years.

My question to you is: Why can't you teach at a bricks and mortar school as well as online. That way you can ease yourself out of one and into the other.

  4. Can anyone unconfuse me ?

Our plan is to stay in CM for 5 months from end of October. Next week I'm going to the consulate to fill out my Tourist visa app. If I'm staying in TH for the 5 months do I need a triple entry visa ($120CAD each). or can I somehow get a single entry ($40 each) 6 month visa without the triple/double entry if I report every 90 days (another area I'm confused about)

    Thanks in advance

  5. Good to see that the Thai police are keeping up their usual wonderfully professional standards by dragging this poor obviously very sick guy out to get a beating.

I have noticed that there are many schizophrenic homeless people wandering the streets of Thailand. I have worked with many over the years in the UK, but be reassured, 99% of them are harmless.

And I looked after the 1% that weren't.

  6. This is a very tragic story especially when such young lives are brutally ended but to end his life for this act is wrong. As one commenter mentioned, "it is an illness" just like any other illness but this affects thoughts which leads to action that is difficult to control. Should we incarcerate a person with TB if they spit close to another person who then becomes infected?

The government should be looking into the reason for his release, tests done prior to release from hospital, meds given on release, was he taking them, etc.

My question is this, Is there a forensic psych hospital in Thailand where he can be sent ?

Yes he may need to be locked up indefinately and sedated for some time but that is how things are these days, not lynched or at the mercy of the aggrieved family. ......Passion

Two hundred years ago the well to do would pay a penny to watch the insane people at the Bethlem and Maudsley Hospital in London. This is where the word "Bedlam" came from (Just a side note that has nothing to do with this case)

  7. I'm arriving CM in a month or so and have a question.

I recently had a hearing test resulting in me needing aids in both ears. The cost will be $3,200 Cdn or about $120/month Cdn on a 3 year lease.

Do any of the forum members know how much they would cost in CM. Some kind of price range would help. I am looking at custom made ones with very small inserts that have a tiny tube attached to a behind the ear device. The audio tech said that I had difficulty hearing high pitched sounds. When asked specifically if that included the wife's voice the answer was in the positive. (So now when she talks at me she cannot say that I'm not listeningbiggrin.png)

  8. Re: T-Dog......Haven't decided any area yet but should be near town as we won't have transport, well maybe rent a scooter or close to a songthaew route. I would be interested in knowing more about the "seasonal friends situation" We would be looking at 1 or 2 bedroom, no studios, kitchen with a few western additions and a balcony big enough to sit out to have a morning coffee. Washing machine (for her who must be obeyed) would be nice too

Re:Steve 187......The 90 day multi then border run sounds good. Do I go to consulate here to apply for initial 90 day visa before travelling ? I live in Vancouver.

  9. We are retired and want to set up a base in CM for 4/5 months a year. Any suggestions on what type of visa would be best for us. Also, I had thought that if we took out a 12 month agreement on a rental house/apt. we could sub-lease it for the time we are away (May - Oct) Any thoughts on that. We will be arriving toward the end of Oct/ beginning Nov
