  1. allot of thai people would like to travel outside of Thailand but the opportunity for most is low considering visa restrictions to western countries and average income levels in Thailand.. If you want to know what thai people think about the western world just do a youtube search....there are several videos of thai people uploading their experiences regarding the western world and will often comment on the difference in culture.

Note: The people who are fortunate enough to travel from Thailand to a western country are usually well off and probably attended an international school... so if you were wondering what someone like a local Thai bar girl thinks the videos won't do much good.

  2. I wonder if anyone has even considered raising the price for thais..

granted the fees shouldn't seem that unreasonable to someone living on a western income... but people won't feel very welcomed and don't take kindly to being treated unfairly... If I was traveling to Thailand for the first time and i found out i was paying a "farang -tax of 1000% i might not want to come back to Thailand ever again.

I've watched the streets of Chinatown for many weeks....you rarely see a farang there mate.

And the ones you do see are watching their cellphones for google maps but even that doesn't work properly cause you can't download a free map of Bangkok....You can download loads of offline maps but not in Thailand.

BKK needs many more farang waiters, the dumb waiters is the reason i won't eat in many restaurants without a Thai friend.

just curious how long have you lived in thailand? are you not picking up the language at all?

What a load of rubbish....Rubber tires on a push bike is no worse then rubber shoes....You idiots believe the earth is still flat...

it has nothing to do with rubber tires or rubber shoes

I have no clue what faith or religion you have if any... but its about showing respect

riding a bike through temple grounds is like riding a bike through a church, common sense you just don't do it out of respect for other people's beliefs!

and if you still dont get it... how would you feel if someone pissed on the side of your house?

How could you suppose Thais know Trump ?

thai people barely care about thai politics....  so you can imagine how much they would care about another countries politics.

After the election a few thai people asked me about trump becoming president..... let's just say they knew absolutely nothing about what trump represents and were mainly asking out of a courtesy because they knew i am a US citizen.

Guess the fact he has a kid and is disabled makes the difference.

I wished there were more farang streetfood vendors, or ones with their own snackbars/restaurants.  Not because they are farang but because i expect a certain standard from them, most streetvendors live in the slumps without any hygiene, i won't buy food from them.

I know of farang who do business with their thai wives, she sells and he stands next to her all day long doing nothing. Well that's what Thailand allows/wants so that's what they get.

Also i know of Thai having restaurants in the West and working there on illegal papers. I don't care but it's unfair for the ones who do have legal papers.

There's also a farang who sells plastic crap from out of his motocy here in BKK.

Thailand has so many westerners here it could become the hub of western streetfood cooked by westerners. The Thai streetfoodvendors won't like it though but i won't buy from them since it's always filthy around their shops and they can't speak english or won't show a retailprice.

do yo live in Thailand?? if so why?!?!?!?!?

  7. only 20% ???? i figure it would have been much higher... there was an ambulance stuck in front of my condo for like 15 minutes with its lights and sirens blaring 2 days ago ... this has actually been a problem for the last 20 years and its unlikely to change anytime soon.

its common knowledge that if you are hurt really bad and have to take an ambulance good chance you won't make it to the hospital alive.

They should just make it 20 baht, pay cash and walk through immediatly, no ticket needed.

Or just make it free, of charge for a day. Most commuters have a membership and pay anyway.

Ridiculous to let them be in such long qeueu's, if i was them i would go by car tomorrow...it might happen again.

this so much this... makes zero sense to punish commuters...

20 baht to get in get off wherever you want.

  9. khao san is extremely a popular tourist destination.. i see families frequenting that area

To me it makes zero sense to have brothels, gogo bars, and any other type of red light district entertainment anywhere near khao san...

Even a clueless tourist knows if they want that type of entertainment they go to Soi Cowboy, Nana, or pat pong.

    :D

Tourist season is here and what do Thai's love above all other things. To feel outrage, to believe someone somewhere is disrespecting Thailand, to join together in righteous indignation and loathing egged on by the media and all three political parties that have held office since 1997. It’s a national sport and so much fun !!

And where will this all lead to ... basically tourists get tired of it and stop coming, tourists numbers fall and the TAT has to try and find new tourists. Hmm, Maybe under some rocks in Greenland …

Before our resident Troll teamers joins the fray to denounce low life tourists and the disrespect,  my country has the same tourists and they do stupid things, however the media does not ram it on the television and the front pages of papers and internet. It is generally thought that other news is more important than what numbnuts are doing on vacation.

Until Thailand realizes this fact, tourist numbers will continue to drop - my bet is it is too much fun too stop and thai culture gets too much milage on finding disrespect to put the brakes on it.

i don't know about you but for most civilized people "having fun" is no excuse for a complete and total disregard for local customs and traditions... takes a special type of arrogance to believe to feel its alright to piss on other people's traditions and customs because they are on vacation! (tourist starts to crap or piss on your front lawn... you  are angry for obvious reasons tourist retorts back "what? is ok i am on vacation)

  11. i am also dual citizenship, your situation is unfortunate bu it gave me something to look out for..

NO, you can not lose citizenship over the passport situation. (are you confusing your passport with your citizenship?)

I am assuming you left Thailand using the Thai passport and used the Australian passport to enter Australia... if the passport is expired then you would definitely have to renew it to leave the country again. You can't leave Australia on the thai passport because there is no record of entering the country on it and you would also require a visa to enter and leave.

In any case note to self, check US passport for expiration before visiting the states or get a visa for thai passort.

eat at McDonald’s instead of sampling local cuisine

What? Farang should not eat at Mc Donald's over the new Year? Who writes such *^^&*(.

It's kind of a valid point... traveling across the world to eat something you can probably get walking distance from where you live on daily basis instead of trying something new doesn't make much sense unless....

    a) you are allergic to new trying new things... (why the <deleted> are you traveling then?)

    B) you have no sense of adventure (again why the <deleted> are you traveling?)

    c) you have been away for so long you are homesick and forgot how crappy McDonalds is

    d) you want to do a comparison to see if the  McDonald's crap differs from your home country.

I'd be interested to know if the passengers on the bus considers the driver a hero.

Agree on relief drivers leeneeds. At least on the VIP buses.  I'd pay that, and would consider using buses again.

    Happy Holidays everyone! :)

If i were on the bus i would lay the blame squarely on the company for what transpired! and hold the driver to zero accountability!

the idea of companies taking advantage of and overworking employees pisses me off to no end.

  14. If I am not mistaken teachers get offered very little money to teach in rural Thailand...  teaching English in Bangkok on average earns you about 45,000 baht.. while teaching outside of Bangkok earns you less than 22,000 and I noticed recruiters are super desperate and are willing to hire almost anyone to fill in positions... IE rural poor are probably not getting  qualified or quality teachers.

I am also pretty disappointed in thai teaching methods... children are not allowed to question teachers or authority... they are basically told how something is suppose to be done and are expected to follow.
