I should probably add that we are recently married and that she wishes to take my surname.

Hello,
Has anybody got experience of changing the name in a Thai passport in the UK?
My wife now has the FLR visa in her maiden name and we're concerned that changing the name will cause us problems.
- Is it a stamp that it is put into her passport, rather than a newly issued passport?
- Would a name change invalidate her FLR (or potentially cause problems when the passport is requested as a form of ID by UK companies)?
- What is the procedure for the passport name change?
- Will the name change here affect anything in Thailand, either upon our holiday return or for her land ownership deeds?
Thanks

Thanks all, very useful advice once again.

We're planning to leave Thailand together in a couple of weeks and I'm just trying to make sure that we do everything that we need to before we head back to blighty.
I think we need to take all of the documents that we supplied for her visa application in hand luggage for questioning by an ECO at Heathrow(?).
Also, are there formalities or legalities that we should know about in terms of her leaving Thailand? I can think of potential issues relating to her ID card, hospital card and maybe banks, but perhaps there are other things that I've overlooked?
Thanks

I've been away for a year and my original insurance will expire soon. I just need on extra month to cover my last couple of weeks in Thailand and the flight home.
Can anybody recommend a cheap company? The ones that I've found won't insure me as I've already left the UK.
Thanks.

We're looking for a few days away from Bangkok where we're living at the moment. Been to Pattaya so we'll be off to one of the three places above. We're keen to get any suggestions as to where is nice. We're a couple in our 20's and we'd like a nice beach and enough day and night life to keep us busy while we're there. We're on a budget so somewhere where we can get a reasonable GH for under 500bht a night would be best.
Is it possible/realistic to stay in either HH or CA and commute from one place to the other each day?
And, a bit of a long shot, but does anybody know if there is somewhere we can rent a tent and pitch it overnight on a beach in one of these places?
Thanks!

Can anybody recommend some?
The missus says there is one in/near Pinklao but remembers no more about its exact location. I've also learnt that there is one in Lumpini Park from a search on this site.
We're in Banglamphu, but can travel.
Thanks!

Super helpful - thank you both.

I've been told that spouse visa holders are entitled to NHS treatment but I don't know if this is the same for Fiancee Visa holders?
I will need to buy my fiancee some insurance if she is not entitled to NHS treatment. Does anybody know if this should be done with a UK or Thai company?
Thanks

And Scouser, I see your ID picture(?) has changed so I guess congratulations are in order!
There's not much in this world that can better Gerrard lifting the European Cup!

Thanks for your help with this. I'm worrying myself silly when it really seems that we should have nothing to worry about. I guess I'm just worried that she'll get an ECO that doesn't like the look of her or is having a bad day - something like that.
Oh, and one last thing: my financial situation isn't great. We included a lot of info to show that we'd have no problems living and that we wouldn't need to rely on public funds BUT I'm wondering whether the fact that she has been given an interview means that the Embassy is happy with this, or whether she can still get a refusal for financial reasons?
So much riding on a 'yes' - I'm going to have to crack open a Singha beer and de-stress!

My fiancee and I have seen the lists of possible interview questions that she may be asked and we're confident that there's nothing there that will cause us any problems. I'm posting to ask about your own, or your partner's own, experiences in the (full) interview. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated: length of interview; difficult questions; why you were refused; line of questioning (prepared questions or questions arising from answers given?) etc.
Thanks!

Thank you all for this, especially the two links which are very useful.

My fiancee has been given an interview at the British Embassy in mid April, nine weeks after we applied for a settlement visa. We have nothing to hide, but nonetheless, we're keen to ensure that she is as prepared as possible for the interview.
I'm posting to ask if anybody can give us an idea of what questions she will be asked, the line of questioning and/or any other information that will help us to prepare?
Thanks in advance!

thaiflyer, that's exactly what I did and will do. Thanks for taking the time to reply everybody.
PS - going to Arunyaprathet/Poipet is a horrible experience. Everybody trying to rip you off.

Thanks for the replies.
Thaiflyer, this looks like it will suit me best. My second stay in Marhc/April may only be under 30days so I think I will go down to Penang and get the sixty day tourist visa there. Do I buy it at the Thai border control? Is it a straightforward process?
Also, do you have any idea what is the cheapest way to get to Penang from Bangkok?
Thanks again
Other option is to take a trip down to Penang now and obtain a double entry tourist visa..............you/ll have 6 months in which to use the 2 entries.Soooooooooo.........lets say enter 4th Dec you/ll recieve a 60 day stamp which will cover you through until you leave on 10th Jan, then come back in using the second entry end of Feb and recieve a further 60 day stay stamp which will carry you through until the end of April and could if need be, be extended at local immigration by a further 30 days .
Up to you really if you want to make the one off effort to go down to Penang or if you want to border run in December and then apply for a tourist visa in India for your Feb trip............sounds like you/ll need a tourist visa as you said end of Feb until mid April which will take you beyond the 30 day+10 day extension that would be available to you without a visa.
You/ll have to work out your exact dates in Feb to April.

Nationality: UK
Age: 27
Location: Bangkok
Currently on a 30-day entry stamp, expiring on 2nd December (soon!!).
I have a flight to India on 10th January.
I will return to Thailand at the end of February and stay until mid April (less than six months from now).
I want to sort my visa situation as easily as possible. If I go the entry stamp route then I will have to do two visa runs before leaving for India and then one more time in March.
Ideally I can sort something out without having to leave Bangkok?
Can anybody shed some light on my options?
Many Thanks

Thanks, but we're in London... and if the Passport is changed then what would happen to the visa that is stuck into the former passport?
