  1. Hi,

I found this post and got excited - https://www.posttoday.com/economy/news/639819?fbclid=IwAR0-DkiIHkSe84wecnhU87pTx67u8k5i_LXRe2Ch68JiwoBVp2t0ahLTB1Y.

It says that now you can apply for STV from ANY COUNTRY!

Assuming it will become official soon, I have some questions about STV, hopefully can find someone here who already got it.

    1. It says that you need a proof of accommodation for the whole stay in Thailand after ASQ. Since I don't own a condo, I'd want to show them AirBnB booking for 1 month. I can't show for the whole stay because I don't know where I might travel later while in Thailand. Is it ok to show booking for a month or a few weeks?
    2. Do I need a return flight ticket or can it be one way? Once again, I don't know for how much time of the 9 possible months I will stay.

    3. Does the thai insurance need to be for 9 months period? If anyone got it, how much did it cost you for 9 months? I'm considering AETNA.

    4. Does the insurance in https://longstay.tgia.org/home/companiesstv cover any hospital expenses, not just because of COVID? In other words, do I need another health insurance or one from there is enough?

    Thank you!

Reading your topic I ask myself does she already have a Schengen visit friends or tourist visa? If not she has to wait until VSF global in Bangkok will open up. Some embassy sites (dutch, Belgian) say july 13th. Belgian embassy is not clear what visa they would issue suppose the date is correct. Also Belgian closed it borders to all NON schengen visitors (non essential trips). Italy did the same. Keep in mind that the list is an advice not a decision. The german embassy in Bangkok made it clear. No VSF global services for Germany until there is a regular flight schedule between Thailand and Germany. Dutch embassy states tourist visa /short stay Schengen visa are welcome. They will open on july 13th.

But the biggest problem occurs on Bangkok airport itself. I read several stories of Thai citizen still possessing a valid Schengen visa not allowed to fly to Europe because the airline staff stated they couldn't guarantee their return flight. This policy makes it almost impossible right now for Thai people to travel to Europa on a short stay Schengen Visa. My GF is the same situation. We don't take the risk right now buying a ticket and then ending up with a new cancellation. Nobody knows how long this situation will continue

Your other question marrying your GF in Europe and then trying to get a longterm visa is tricky. Some countries refuse to do a marriage on a short stay. In a few cases they warn the immigration. So it depends on the country itself. Perhaps the Begian or German route is still possible. I have no experience with it.

This is the link to the German embassy. Unfortunately it's in German language  https://bangkok.diplo.de/th-de  with the text in German "Bitte beachten Sie, dass Schengen-Visaanträge im Moment noch nicht bewilligt werden können, wenn aufgrund dieser Situation in den eingereichten Anträgen keine Rückkehrwilligkeit / Rückkehrmöglichkeit festgestellt werden kann"

    Or in English

Please note that Schengen visa applications cannot be approved at the moment, if due to this situation in the submitted applications no willingness to return / Return possibility can be determined.

    Thanks a lot!

She doesn’t have schengen visa yet.

Yeah I got a reply from German embassy (the one that you linked), that currently applications for Schengen visa are not accepted for my country (Lithuania).

It’s not urgent yet, I’m planning ahead - for September. Hopefully situation improves then.

  3. Is there any chance for my thai gf to get a schengen visa to see me in Europe? Currently there aren't any restrictions for thais to come to my country.

I am currently in an EU country, she is in Thailand. With current COVID restrictions, it's unclear when I will be able to see her.

    What are the requirements?

In addition, we plan to get married. Would it be possible to get married in EU and then convert her visa so she could stay with me in EU as much as she wants without the need to go back to Thailand?

    Thank you!

If you need to work in Thonglor - Ekamai and aren't confident enough to ride with cars in Bangkok traffic, the canals in the back of Thonglor goes all the way Ram Kamhaeng and Bang Kapi and has a decent path that you  can ride car-free save for the occasional motorcycle. From Thonglor into the city like Pratunam also has the same paths but not continuous. take a ride in the canal boat to see.

Suanluang - Prawet Area has Suan Luang Rama IX and Nong Bon lake on the back for you to ride in, if you live in the area riding from your home to the park is doable, the road is wide enough.

If you want a place to cycle, look up the bike lane around Suvarrnabhumi airport, 23.5km of cycling tracks plus facilities like showers and shops, thousands of cyclist turn up to ride there every day

That lane in Suvarnabhumi was exactly what I had in mind. It's called Happy and Healthy Bike Lane. That could do for a while, till it gets boring.

Are there anything similar like this around Bangkok? Maybe in Samut Prakan?

Not sure if there are places to rent/buy here, but no cars at all.

Thanks, I forgot to mention - I'm looking for areas where I could live (buy a house or condo) and which is bicycle friendly. I can't buy a house in Ko Kret or Bang Krachao.

I was thinking about Ari for example, the area to the east from BTS Ari seems to be only few cars. Unfortunately housing prices are above my budget there (up to 10 mln baht).

  6. I'm thinking about settling in Bangkok for long term, maybe buying a house or condo.

One thing that I love and worries me is the lack of cycling options in Bangkok.

Perhaps you guys know which area in Bangkok is good or at least decent for cycling? I have a 30 kg e-bike which I'd love to transport from overseas but not sure where would I use it. I'm considering outer areas of bangkok as well, like Nonthaburi and areas in Suan Luang/Prawet. Wouldn't want to go further than that, since gf's job is in Thong Lo.

If the park near Chatuchak is the best option then it's sad.

Your business will continue to owe taxes in your home country even though you are in Thailand over 180 days and considered resident. As a resident you are liable to pay any tax due in Thailand; however, as long as you don’t transfer earnings from your home country to Thailand — in the tax year it’s earned — you shouldn't have a tax liability in Thailand.

I thought there's no double taxation and you only have to pay taxes to the country where you spend more than 180 days?

I would move the company offshore. Pay yourself a small salary from that company, declare that and pay the tax on it in your own country. If you want to repatriate funds from your offshore company at a later date and pay the taxes on that then that is up to you.

The way I do it now is similar - I pay myself a lower salary, pay income tax to my country for that and keep the rest in the company. The problem is on how to pay out the rest of the money without it being taxed. What difference would it make when moving the company offshore in that sense?

  9. Hi!

Here is my situation - I have a small online company based in a European country, I'm the director and the only employee there, kind of a digital nomad per se. My bank is based at the same country, as is the source of my income.

Currently I'm paying income taxes to the same European country, but I spend close to 6 months every year in Thailand on multi entry tourist visas.

I'm thinking that in the future I might settle in Thailand or spend more than 180 days there in a year.

My initial thought is to save on income tax - I understand that if I declare my residency in Thailand, I don't have to pay income tax to my European country. So the question is two fold:

    a) I'm staying in Thailand more than 180 days in a year.

    b) I don't stay in ANY country more than 180 days in a year, travel around like a digital nomad, but having declared my residency in Thailand.

Is there any case where I could keep a low profile and don't have to pay income tax to any country? And also, how does this work - does a bank send my data to tax authorities in Thailand? What if my income is foreign based, I don't work for thai company. Does it still mean I would have to pay income tax for Thailand. My bank account would remain the one from my European bank, I'm not planning to open a thai bank account.

If someone is in similar situation, I'd like to know how they're working this out.

  10. Hi folks,

I will have 2 weeks to stay somewhere outside Thailand in the end of January.

I'd like to stay at an AirBnB somewhere not too expensive, so Singapore and Hong Kong is out of the question.

My main choice is between KL and HCM. Been to KL for 3 days already, never been to HCM yet. Been to Danang, so it's out of the question. Hanoi is too cold in January.

    Been to Taipei as well.

Which place you think is better for 2 weeks in terms of food, price, entertainment/nightlife, logistics, things to see/do? I'll be working during day time and off in the evening. Or maybe you have another place to recommend?

    Appreciate all the tips,

    Req

In my case, I have no unwanted fat in that area - it's the lack of fat that is causing 2 droopy folds of skin. So the surgeon will simply tighten up my neck skin by making incisions somewhere behind the ears and then pull the neck skin a little tighter.

Yanhee neck-lift is about 80,000 baht if I recall, because they only offer GE, not LA with oral sedation.

Hey! Let me know how it goes and whether you're satisfied with result. Not sure which one I need, maybe neck lift as well.

I'm having neck lift surgery under local anaesthetic (LA) next Monday in Bangkok. A double chin is (I guess) due to excess fat under your chin or in the upper neck area.

I'm 58 years old, and having lost about 10 Kg over the past year through a fitness/healthy food routine, I now have some loose folds of skin hanging under my chin. So getting everything tightened up should return me to 'you hansum man' status.

The cost is 55,000 baht (cheaper than having a general anaesthetic (GA). LA surgery is feasible because for me it's a fairly minor operation.

I'll update next week if I survive the surgery :)

Good luck! I checked with Yanhee, they're asking 40,000 thb for liposuction in that area. I'm just wandering if someone with my measurements (not obese) has done it and how good the results were.

  13. Hi,

Do you know how and where to get rid of double chin surgically in Bangkok? Which hospital would you recommend and how much would it cost?

Basically I have some body fat and more of it tend to collect on my chin, I don't like how it looks. I'm not obese, 30 year old, 75 kg and 180 cm, but for some reason I'm getting double chin.

Has anyone tried to get rid of it surgically or by some implant?

  14. Hi there,

I have some issue with my head, it's been constantly lightheaded, even dizzy when I concentrate intensively for a while on something, like reading or working on computer.

It started after I recovered from a simple cold and been going on like this for 3 weeks now.

I'd like to see a neurologist in Bangkok for consultation and possible tests. Maybe someone can recommend an English speaking neurologist in BKK or a clinic/hospital to go? Should I go to private clinic or public hospital?

How much do you think it might cost (consultation + tests if needed)? I have a health insurance which I bought before coming to BKK, it's valid till May, 2018.

    Appreciate any help.
