I was amazed to discover that all the double taxation treaties are online in English and Thai and can be found on a Google search. It's pretty clear that there are treaties with most countries that expats come from and that there is very little they will be able to tax on overseas income for most retirement visa holders.

Mark Jacob on Facebook was shopping for people at IKEA and organising the shipping at a very reasonable price. He seems now to be focussed on helping people with passports. If you have a FB account, send him a message. He's trustworthy and reliable.

I'll be visiting my home country soon where my drivers license has expired. I have a 5-year Thai license issued on Koh Samui. Can I get an International license on the island or do I have to go to Surat Thani or Bangkok to get one?

I'm wondering also how this is going to work. I'm in Thailand on a Non-Imm O Retirement extension. I don't have medical insurance here. I would like to go back to my home country for a few months and return on my Re-entry permit which means Thai Pass without needing a visa I guess. I figured I'd have to pay for medical insurance until my next Extention comes up which in my case would be about 5 months. Is this realistic? Is the cost of this type of medical insurance correct meaning I should figure on about 15,000 baht?

Thank you all. The 400,000 at a time idea is really helpful

I just received my new one-year visa extention for retirement. For personal reasons, I want to move my 800,000 baht to another bank as soon as possible. I assume any time after 3 months from the new visa date is appropriate. Will I then need paperwork from both the old and new banks when I renew the visa in 2022? Any potential complications?

My retirement extention based on Non-Imm O (not O-A) is coming up for renewal. I've heard rumours that I'll need a much more complete medical exam than in the past, but no one I know has done it yet. Can anyone confirm this and give further details?

Might be a bit tricky to get back after April 7, especially without exposing yourself to a lot of people on a bus and ferry, if they are still running. Check out Bangkokair site.

Just got home to Samui yesterday from several months in home country and spent over an hour today trying to do my TM30 online, this even though I was already registered. Kept getting an error message about the sequence of something but even though I redid it three times, it was never accepted. I'll try again tomorrow or I have to run over to Immigration to hand it in. Even if it had been accepted, I never saw a way to submit it unless the save7record button does it automatically. Does it? Or does something else come up if/when you get it right? And how strict is Samui immigration about these forms? I will have to be in Bangkok for a few months once a week for medical reasons. Will I have to redo it weekly? All insights/info appreciated.

yes thanks, I know the tricks.

Thanks. What part of the island is your friend living? Everything I heard is that Chikungunya is up in the Plai Laem area.

Coming back to my Samui home after several months away. Anyone know the current situation on dengue or chikungunya on the island?

Health Republic in Lamai or the simpler one at Green Cafe/Spa Garden also in Lamai.

This has been done to death over the years on TV and no one can find a law that states that you must carry your original passport with you at all times.
The requirement is that you can prove your legal status in Thailand and photo ID, so a copy of your passport along with a Thai or Foreign DL (with photo) would be fine, you could be asked to produce the actual passport at a later time.
Personally I have the passport stuff recorded in my phone, if ever asked for it.
Carrying the original poses far too many risks, so only do this if doing something official that may need it.
Always a good idea to include photos of current visa or stamps

I probably know the answer to my question but I'm hoping I'm wrong: my 90-day report for my retirement visa (Samui immigration) is due May 22. I fly out to my home country on May 26. The re-entry permit is already in my passport. As I officially have a week, until May 28, to file the report, will there be a problem if I just skip the report this time?

A friend left Thailand, leaving her car with me thinking she had done the paperwork necessary for me to register it in my name. To make a long story short, she didn't. She's back in the UK now, not intending to come back in the near future although she still owns a home here. If/when she does come back, can she sell me the car if she comes in on a tourist visa or 30-day entry or will she need a Non-Imm O?
-
Thanks. I do have the bluebook but it seems to be a lot more complicated now.

For what its worth about 15 years ago I left a car in Thailand with my GF. The car was registered to me only. She had the blue book and I gave her permission to sell the car while I was still overseas. She sent me one or two forms that needed my signature and a copy of my passport. So if you have the blue book you may be able to get this done too.
But you may need to return to the jangwat it was registered in.
Thanks. I do have the bluebook but it seems to be a lot more complicated now.

You've must have heard versions of this story before, but I'm trying to pin down precise information and finding it quite difficult: a friend moved back to the UK, leaving her car with me with all the paper work that she thought I'd need to register it in my name before sending her the agreed price. It turns out the papers are not done correctly so no sale although I can still drive it. The thing is, she may be willing to come back to sell me the car as this seems to be necessary here on Samui, but not for a while as she just recently left. She still owns a house here to be used by family as vacation house. Does she need a new non-immigrant O to sell the car or could she come in on a 30-day entry or tourist visa and still get a Certificate of Residency as a home owner and then sell it? Or is it possible to give a family member Power of Attorney at a UK Consulate to complete the sale?

Thanks you both...that's all I need to know

Nearly a year ago last October, I was issued a Non-Imm O-A (retirement) at my local Thai embassy in Europe. It has a "use by" date of Oct 29, 2015. I entered Thailand with it on Nov 25, 2014 and was given permission to stay until Nov. 24, 2015. As it is a multiple-entry visa, I left Thailand some months ago without notifying anyone or doing anything. Personal reasons delayed my return, however, and I can't get back until mid-November. Am I likely to be allowed in on that same visa? If not and I come in with a tourist visa, is that convertible to a Non-Imm O for retirement these days? Or is there an easy place to get a Non-Imm O single entry in Asia which I can then convert? My local embassy will only issue me another Non-Imm O-A which is complicated for me as it locks me into the Oct-Nov time schedule which wil always be difficult for me. I'd much rather have an expiry or renewal date Jan or Feb.

I bought the house next to mine because it was a good deal and I wanted some control over who got it and to have a place for my friends who visit. But now I hear I can't even do the TM30 and that I can't advertise it on Facebook without riskof losing my retirement visa as I can't legally work. What can I legally do or how can I resolve these problems? I'm on Ko Samui.
