    thanks

  2. Hi all,

    THanks for your replies.

I'm now thinking about flying out to Ubon and getting the train back the night before I fly back to UK. My flight is 1.30pm on the Monday - if I get the overnight sleeper on Sunday - to arrive in BKK at 6am - I should be fine right....? Do the trains often run late or mostly to schedule?

I'm also wondering whether to do the journey during the day so I can actually see the country.

    Thanks

I havn't done the Bkk - Udon route yet but plan to later this year but I have been on the Bkk - Chiang Mai route and the trains on that route are "very often late" as you say, It might be wise to arrive in Bkk the day before your flight as you could well miss it.

  3. There is a small issue with the server which might take up to 24 hours to fix but with that said, this week’s column is online now and can be read at : www.stickmanweekly.com

All will be back to normal very shortly, I would say 24 hours maximum. My apologies for any inconvenience or concern caused!

    Stick

Thanks stick, now for my Sunday afternoon read.

  4. I am looking to have 3 plain white shirts (short sleeve) on my next visit as I usually stay in majestic Suites anyone have any idea of what the price would be??

I was quoted between 500 - 700Baht in a few places in Chiang Mai last year but when I did a deal thye wanted 4 days to make them and was leaving in 2.

Think I'll send majestic suiites an e-amail before I go to ask what they want.

  5. Thai massage can make his back worse. does anyone know if bumrungrad has a chiropractor ?

This is also what I have read, I once read in a Thai massage shop that if you have a bad back it does recommend that have a Thai massage.

  6. No Tattoos on me

Tats have never really bothered me in the past and some can be very artistic and smart but lately they have become very popular in the UK and for some reason they do now start to bother me a bit, I personally think a few have gone completely over the top and are starting to look a mess its not just 1 or 2 but the whole parts of the body completely covered and they dont look that good.

  8. Seen alot worse in the British Isles and many parties in the US. :D

You've seen "a lot worse" in Britain and the US! :o

I agree that in Thailand many farangs behave the same way, but in the West it's very unusual to see drunks driving 'cos they know that if they're caught they face losing their licence at the very least!

Whilst I've seen lots of drunken behaviour at home, I saw it far less frequently!

It's not that unusual to see drunks driving in the UK and losing your licence is no deterent, I live in a small town (2000 people) and 2 young men crashed their cars last weekend and both failed breath test's for alcohol, and quite a few of my mates have lost their licence in the past, also for every 1 caught their are sure to be plenty who don't.

  9. This is from the bank of england website

Are Scottish & Northern Irish notes legal tender?

In short ‘No’ these notes are not legal tender; only Bank of England notes are legal tender but only in England and Wales.

The term legal tender does not in itself govern the acceptability of banknotes in transactions. Whether or not notes have legal tender status, their acceptability as a means of payment is essentially a matter for agreement between the parties involved. Legal tender has a very narrow technical meaning in relation to the settlement of debt. If a debtor pays in legal tender the exact amount he owes under the terms of a contract, he has good defence in law if he is subsequently sued for non-payment of the debt. In ordinary everyday transactions, the term ‘legal tender’ has very little practical application

  10. Does that mean that the A380,s will start @ auckland-sydney, then on to BKK. I just bought 2 tickets for wife &son syd-bkk for $1417 aus, they use to be 777,s that might explain availability of cheap seats, keep it coming.

    regards songhklssid.

I believe its just the Dubai - Bkk -Dubai route that the 380's will be on, no mention of going onto anywhere else yet.

From the emirates site I see they have the A380 from Sydney to Dubai..

    Fri01 May 09 10:15 Dubai International Airport (DXB) 13hr 50min

    0 Stops Economy

    Airbus A380-800

Sat02 May 09 06:05 Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD)

Yes the A380 does go from DXB -SYD but I belive it is routed through Hong Kong not BKK.

There is a route from DXB - SYD and onto Christchurch through BKK but that one is still a 777
