When I first came to Thailand I loved the vibe and knew I'd live here one day. I wasn't into Thai women at all (At the time).Nearly 20 years on I've slowly made the move over and bought a condo nearly 3 yrs ago. It's not quite the same Thailand now and I do miss what I first experienced. But that's 'progress' ... also feel my age in Bangkok too, so I'll probably move to an island at some point and live the beach life, sailing etc.
So for anyone thinking to move abroad, you really need to have that feeling in your gut about the country of choice. You need a long term plan and a way to pay the bills, preferably owning and renting property. If you're winging it for a better sex life, it's maybe not enough, unless your life truly revolves around sex and you have deep pockets! -
Agree Netflix is good value. It gives you 3 tier choices, I went for the top for the free month then medium package
Also good for Airbnb -
No. This is wannabe hiso/stupid farang price.
Really depends what type of property and area. Some of the new apartments around emporium or Lumphini park are much higher. If you go to the less enviable parts of Silom and rent an older condo, u get value.
Depends what you want, like any city inc London -
At least the sterling baht rate is slightly better

I cancelled True long ago. Use an App to get all my English tv and fmovies to watch the latest free films in HD

You'd have to add around 20k a month minus the annual fee. So around 600-650 per day
-
Nothing in there for house/condo, services, etc, etc?
I bought, so condo costs are about 130-150 per day inc annual fee, other bills like vet/dental/car insurance are maybe 100? Just guessing

Prayut wants a modern Bangkok where everyone is forced to shop in malls, it's like Night of the living dead.
I really miss the streetfood and fruit juice stalls opposite thonglor BTS. -
She needs her coffee fix by 10 or i might get stabbed

Really, can you post a breakdown....?
Maybe not as much as that, I reduced it to 3-
Starbucks with the wife every morning, 500
Petrol per day 200
Lunch/dinner 1500
Shopping clothes/ food /dog 500
bills and other expenses like the vet 250 per day
Something like that. If I didn't live in central BK it would be a lot less

Outgoings in Thailand guessing 3000 a day in my case

Jon make sure you shop around for flights too On a average I pay no more than £200 per leg based on a return. Sometimes some good deals out of London City airport too. (Assuming your in london N1) £200 per leg is based on a fly within 2-3 day booking so last minute. These figures are for economy fligjts which are not direct but under 16.5 hours total travel time.
Wd love to know more (single back to city airport).. esp as I live 20 minutes from there.
missed my flight back and there was no way to economically do a replacement.

Thailand throws a lot of challenges. One is you might find your dream girl but when you get married she likely will become a different person overnight. Just hope that you like that different person [emoji41]

Interested to know how someone coming over with that purpose would go about looking for a Thai wife.
If they don't know Thai culture and all the classic mistakes that can be made.
It would be easier and cheaper to drop 50k in the ocean and come back looking 10 years younger. -
Frued would have a life time of work with you and your obsession with thai p??? as you so eloquently call it.
Who's Frued. Is he Welsh? -
I'm reading house hold debt is third highest in the world (worked out on household income ratio) and at the same time there are new condos going up in Bangkok that start at 40 million and have a higher Sqm price than Shepherd Market in London.
Then you have a creaky bank system and a government in denial. Just takes one big event to set something off -
My slight worry is if the economy gets worse and farangs are seen in a worse light than they are now- the current military government is fairly xenophobic and could change or make new laws which affect our futures here.

Eek true. A second reason not to buy outright..
-
Yes I'm insulated by property and one business in Thailand.. But annoyingly was about to transfer 100k across..
-
I guess a big drawback now is the sterling rate!

Imo Chang is ok but it really needs to be kept cold to to its malty taste. Usually I end up discarding the last quarter due to going warm/ being undrinkable

With the beer monopoly, how do these small producers getting around this draconian law to sell in other venues? I've seen several restaurants selling Thai brewed craft beers recently.
I'd assumed small Brewers could only sell 'onsite'
-
Recently tried a very nice beer brewed in Phuket called Chalawan; it's in several restaurants in Bangkok now.

Arrgh I wonder how that played out. The guy would have lost his job if he confessed.

With the reported surprising economic results in uk, let's hope the £ gets a little stronger.
What's interesting about the Thai economy right now is the luxury market has pretty much crashed. Outlets are not paying their suppliers, and it's reaching crisis point - I know this from one of the biggest importers of luxury goods in Thailand
