  1. Howdy,

I have a 2021 Toyota Cross with about 30k on it. I still owe 300,000THB to the bank. I have to leave Thailand permanently in June and am looking for advice on where is best to sell it? Also, do you think I should pay it off before I sell it?
To further complicate things, I don't speak Thai or have a Thai-speaking partner.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

  2. I'm trying to buy a new vespa (GTS 150) in Bangkok and I'm pretty unhappy with service at dealers I have contacted. Most don't have the stock, others don't reply, or better yet they tell me they have it in stock so I drive 60 minutes only to tell me "in stock" means they can order it....

Anyways, would any recommend a Vespa dealership in Bangkok/Samut Prakan? Also, is it common for motorbikes to come with service/warranty packages? I.e. would it make sense to buy near my home...

Well it looks as though it is go, However still a lot of questions unanswered,

will you still need Coe?, Covid Insurance?, how long must you stay on the island before being able to move to another province, what are the rules if you come from a green zone but transit through an orange zone?, etc.

This is what I'm dying to hear. Also, most  international flights have a transfer in Bangkok, often through the domestic terminal...

  4. I'm thinking about flying back home to USA for the summer vacation (and get a vaccine boot!)
I live in Bangkok and I know I will still need a 2 week ASQ... but I read that as of July 1st Phuket will be quarantine free and I will just need to stay there 7 days before leaving. Anyone heard anything about the logistics? Will I need to fly direct to Phuket? Or can I transfer in BKK?

  5. Hello,

I am financing a new car and the dealership told me I need to have a certificate of residency. I'm American and live in Bangkok. I was told there are two ways:

Option A-US Embassy (I believe this is a hand written affidavit?)

Option B-A letter from landlord, A visit to the immigration in the province of my work, followed by a visit to  Chaengwattana

Option A seemed easier so I scheduled an appointment  to the US embassy for next week but I'm not sure what exactly I need from them, especially if it's a self-declared affidavit. Does anyone have any advice/experience with this?

    Thanks,

    -Sam

No need to do this, they have the same price list on their website: https://www.subaru.asia/th/assets/buying/pricelist.pdf

According to this brochure you can buy it without any warranty for about 1 million, and for 300k more you get 5 years warranty.

I guess the lower price is just to attract people, because not many people would want to buy a new car without any warranty.

If you really want one without warranty try asking some other dealers, maybe one will sell you one, or contact the OCPB and complain about them.

Thanks Jack. I saw that price list but where do you see the info on warranty? I did call another dealership and they told me same thing. Back home I don't even think it's legal to sell a new car without a warranty. Seems like a real bait n' switch technique. No wonder you don't see many on the roads.

I went to Toyota dealership, out the door price as advertised, english speaking staff, personalized service, they will even finance me without thai guarantor.

If it were me I would politely ask if I can take both the brochures home for further study.

I would then scan both brochures and contact the Subaru head office in Thailand, copy to the head office of Subaru in Shibuya city Tokyo and ask if this is a standard business practice for the company.

Yes, in the meantime I might buy a toyota hahah.

  8. I just stopped by the local Subaru dealership, I was interested in buying a new Forester.  The salesperson  showed me several models and the sticker price matched what was listed online. She then handed me a list with with prices 250,000 to 300,00thb greater than the sticker price.

She explained this was "with warranty" and they only sell at the higher price.

Could anyone help me make sense of this? Is this normal for this make or cars or other dealers?

Many places make more money on a vehicle finance than they do on the car, so cash may not get you a better price. Keep quiet about how you are going to pay and don't refuse finance until you have got the vehicle price where you want it.

Thanks for the tips! In general do new car prices differ much from MSRP? Is there a tax on top of it?

  10. Howdy,

I'm looking to buy a used Mazda CX-3 or CX-30 but would rather than finance a new one, it'd be nice to buy a low mileage used model. I've heard too many horror stories about lemons via private sellers and private lots. A lot of people recommended Toyota Sure, is there a similar program for Mazda?

    Thanks!
