  1. The French embassy has organized a conference on May 14 on the subject of the new Thai tax regulations, in which staff of the Thai revenue department participated, among others, to answer questions from French residents in Thailand.

This conference provides useful information such as the obligation for residents to make a 2024 tax declaration online before Mars 31, 2025, with fine penalty if it made after this date. (I'll let you guess how this will be monitored).

Another important point is that you should not rely on the bilateral tax treaties signed between your country and Thailand to know in which country your income is taxable.

For example, the French-Thai bilateral convention specifies that French pensions income are only taxed in France, while the Thai version bilateral convention indicates this pension income "may be taxed" in Thailand, thus opening the door to double taxation issues.

Needless to say, negotiating with the Thai revenue department will be much more complicated than with the immigration authorities, even if you are lucky enough to be accompanied by a Thai.

I'm not a tax expert, so I will not venture to answer tax questions on this forum. I suggest that you translate this video, good luck!

  2. As I plan to spend only a few months a year in Thailand, I will probably not ask for a new Non O extension.

#1 : As the rules change any time, I want to make sure that I can keep my Kasikorn bank account open as a tourist and that Kasikorn staff would not force me to close it next time I will show my passport at their desk.

#2 : Can I still use the Kasikorn App abroad without a Thai sim card.

    Thanks, for answers.

  3. Underestimated or Hidden' coronavirus cases

    From The Guardian :

"A study by academics from Harvard University analysed the number of passengers taking flights from Wuhan to destinations around the world, and found that the number of cases identified in both Indonesia and Cambodia appeared below what might be expected. The study, published quickly to improve scientists’ understanding of the outbreak, has not been peer reviewed, but adds to mounting fears that cases are not being identified.

It also suggested that cases recorded in Thailand, where 25 people have tested positive, were below the number scientists might expect to see. Cambodia has so far confirm×ed one case of coronavirus."

  4. "....There is no check of bank balance at the border. even if there was a check, any money seasoning requirement is usually to qualify for next year extension. The only way immigration can ever check the 400k bank balance is retrospectively when you present for another extension."

Sorry, but you are wrong. The rule to get a next year extension is "THB 800,000 at least 2 months prior to filing date". The 400k remaining balance is for current extension.

And I'am agreed with you "The rules are tedious already..." that's why I ask before to make a 400k mistake.

  5. Forget the METV for long stay it's just a trap. The easier way to stay in LOS is still the ED VISA. Of course it cost more but you can stay 1 year n Thailand whitout showing any proofs of revenue earned. I live in Pattaya so i know a scholl called Excel Language Centre who offer a 1 year ED Visa with english courses for 17 000 baths. And if you purpose is to stay Thailand only for sunny vacation you don't need to follow the english lesson. Ask the manager when you will apply, she is very comprehensive. You just need to be present when the police immigration come to check. That's all.

  6. UPDATE:

My school still hasn't sent out the letter yet, but they are now telling me that they are not going advise students about the 5-day/10-hour part because they believe they can keep the current days (and just report to immigration that 5-days is being done).

So, I'm sure this policy change is going to impact some schools, but as usual there's probably a lot of back-end corruption going on, it might not affect others. In fact, my school actually mentioned that the people at immigration give them suggestions on how best to report everything so that everything looks good. It sounds like they are on the same team.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how widespread this 5-day/10-hour policy gets adopted by schools. Also, the other policies - like having to show your rental contract - are going to be very interesting.... considering there are surely thousands of people here on ED Visas without a property rented in their name. It doesn't sound very well thought out.

Yes you are right ! Schools and Imigration are on the same team. And as i said before the new 5-day/10-hour policy won't change anything for many schools. For instance, if you are student at Excel Language Centre in Pattaya as soon as you get your first visa extension, you don't need to study anymore. That's why so many Russian beach lovers probably choose this school.

  7. @someonelovesyou ...will now be required to attend 5 days/week, 2 hours/day. The policy change announcement comes from the Chiang Mai Educational Service Area and Chiang Mai Immigration Bureau, but I assume this will roll out across other areas too.

4 hours or 8 hours a week, 4 days or 5 days a week ! It doesn't matter for Chonburi schools. I heard that some language schools located at Pattaya Thai and Jomtien have a special deal with Russian students. When they finished their 180 hours thai lessons or the 120 hours english lessons, they can stay at home and enjoy their holiday in thailand until the end of their ED Visa. Schools just call the students when the chonubri police immigration come for checking.
