Funny how Thais often bash Laos. Yet Laso closed it's borders to China, closed schools and did other things ages ago. As of today they have zero infections. Sure it is leas visited, but Laos is right on the border to China and also infection hub Thailand. Take a look at your smarter cousins Thailand

According to the Lao Post, Chinese laborers returning to work on large infrastructure projects in Laos will all be tested for the virus upon arrival. The task force convened its first meeting on Monday, attended by Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, who urged the committee to speed up public awareness-raising and the testing of suspected cases.

Meanwhile, the task force is committed to providing assistance to Lao students living in China with the help of Lao embassies and consulates there.

Testing Chinese workers upon arrival, Thailand contemplated screening people for a while but then resorted to bashing farang for now wearing masks.

Can't have infection if you can't test for them.

It's also been reported previously that the public health systems in both Laos and Cambodia may not have even been equipped to do the tests necessary to diagnose CV... And on top of that, they both are likely to be even less transparent/more opaque that Thailand is regarding a China-related situation like this. Folks could be dying there, and we might or might not end up hearing about it as a CV issue. Recall, the Cambodian health minister was quoted a week or so back as saying Cambodia was too hot for the CV to survive there....

Those are some good points, thanks for bringing them up.

I'd bank on getting the bug,  and then do everything you can to get over it as quickly as possible..    There is a pretty good chance you'll muscle through, but some will not. The already sick and the old are probably going to hae a worse time than the rest... No surprise there.

Yes, it is so bad that they are now exporting cases. But still around 615 cases unresolved and nobody really doing anything. Wonder how long, before BKK looks like Wuhan.

Anyway, now we have to wait 3-4 more days for the next small batch of tests results to be verified. So we should be around 40 official cases on Wednesday and over 1000 suspected pending cases. Thailand seems to be the only country in the world where testing is very very time consuming.

You did address the major concern we should all have here.

Thai's hate to test, aside from X-rays.

Instead they just ask stupid questions, like did you eat today?

Do you drink alcohol?

How many hours sleep do you get overnight?

Anyone who has ever visited a Dr. here knows what I'm talking about.

In and out as quick as possible, keep that ATM pumping in the cash,

is the major concern, prices are cheap for a reason.

Move mass amounts of people through the Dr office as quick as they can,

so no one complains about how long it took to see the Doctor,

so the patient will continue to want to come each time they feel ill.

Testing is the last thing on their minds at the hospital, we have to insist it be done,

under normal conditions.

We had a case on the island last week where a Chinese lady dropped to the ground, fainted,

and later was informed by the front office staff, that she died, yet no word of it to be seen in the press. Why?

Don't want to tarnish the hotel, or the island image.

How much do you think that is going on around the country?

Chiang Mai is being very quiet around now?

Popular area for the Chinese to visit, yet the great ventilation systems they have in the hotels there, are not having any issues?

I wait and hope I don't start to hear wide outbreak in that area, it will certainly be devastating.

More deaths than SARS now, but don't worry, the government's got it all 100% under control!

Thailand will not stop thousands of Chinese coming to Thailand and I fear the number of infections will mount higher and higher and then when it is too bloody late, they will announce that they are banning Chinese tourists..useless

I just asked the Thai gf a rhetorical Q.

"Why don't Thai close the flights from China" Her reply.."Why you so un clever the government want money"

Nope. They will ban farang tourist.

I wonder what the real numbers are kinda like road death numbers fake TIT

how serious is this really? im reading wildly different things.

The big question is for Expats is can you afford to get the virus? In other words would you report yourself or stay in your home here? Maybe cost one million or two for specialist care here?

He did not say that it is probably the fault of the farangs who refuse to wear his masks?

(at 20 Baht which he distributes with bare hands after having walked with them everywhere without them being even wrapped)

Very good point.

I had pneumonia a couple of years ago and the costs does not even exceed my deductibles. But in case of an outbreak I would not bet that you get treatment for that costs. Furthermore your Insurance might not cover the case of pandemic.

I just wait of  the answer of my insurance on Monday concerning that question.

The other side is if you are sick many others are sick, too. This would be the case where you avoid the hospital at all costs.

Without a 'free' health service it is always cheaper to die than live. Kev in Thailand went home in the end would have probably been better if he had gone at the first sign (of cancer).

Has anyone seen where in Thailand these cases are popping up? The ruling class is rather "Bangkok-centric" but it may just be some cases are in tourist destinations like Phuket, Pattaya, etc. I suppose mum's the word...

To wish there were more people infected with the virus in Thailand would be really ... not beautiful.

Far from me this ugly idea! Vade retro Satanas!

But... if unfortunately it should happen I would say that Karma has struck in the face these unconscious people in power who refuse to close the borders with China for money!

And that politically it will fall back on them, it already begins, on another recent subject on the FB site of the Minister of Health, about his reflection on the farangs to throw out of the country, a Thai put a photo of a Thai Airways plane with the comment you will be happy when the planes will empty because of your comments!.

Que ?

So  over 800 people dead from corona virus,  but because other types of flu have killed

more, we should not be worried about this newest virus?  That seems to be important to some

posters, but I worry whenever I get any flu, there is no real gaurantee that I will survive, until

I have again made it back to good health.  This latest virus may not have the same power

that Ebola has, but it should worry people, as it is not known, if this virus can mutate and

become even more deadly.

Geezer

Are they doing the blood testing in Thailand or is it being sent to a second country?  My experience in Thailand is that results of a full blood test (not including this virus) will be complete in about two hours.

As usual those "experts" do to make any sense.

On one hand, there is this kind of gross propaganda, and on the other, there are facts.

The press in Singapore does an amazing work....

They publish the details... for the 40 cases !

And when you read, then it's obvious : this virus is no joke, the way its spreads, viciously.

the Thai big noter Boss, is just trying some other way, to bring the falangs in as the ones to blame - anything to deflect away from his Chinese mates

That's correct, you should not be concerned about new virus until the piles of bodies are so high it's clear it is the #1 in the world. Only the best is enough.

Also from the Straits Times and their PM:

But fear can do more harm than the virus itself. It can make us panic, or do things which make matters worse, like circulating rumours online, hoarding face masks or food, or blaming particular groups for the outbreak.

Outside the epicentre of the outbreak in Hubei, the death rate is so far only 0.2 per cent. In comparison, seasonal influenza has a death rate of 0.1 per cent.

Ah yes. Thailand. The undisputed hub. Keep it up.

The truth is out there...

They will maybe get it right, eventually...

Obviously the original cure for Thailand of “Keep Spending” didn’t work then ... Thought 2 weeks ago they had the global cure ... Pity

There is a reason that China has 37251 confirmed cases, 28942 suspected cases, and only 2731 have recovered. Its a long hard disease that hits the lower lungs and can spread to the heart and kidneys. It can take weeks to recover.

“There are biochemical indicators that a number of the body’s organ systems are likely affected and you have an inflammatory response that is disrupting their function to some extent,” Dr. Schaffner said.

The lungs, heart, liver, kidneys and the systems that control blood clotting are all affected"
