  1. Hello,

I just got my kids new passports in and was wondering what the process was to transfer their visas to their new passports? We already have the letter from the US Embassy but I was wondering what the best thing to do would be given my situation.

They are currently on an extension of stay with a non-O dependent visa until April 27, 2020 and we will also be submitting documents for their new extension of stay since it is almost expired. They also need to do their 90-day report on April 11, 2020. My question is do I need to get their current extension transferred to their new passport BEFORE I can submit their documents to extend? Or can I just go straight to the counter to submit their extension documents with their old visas in hand and not having had it transferred to the new passport? Also, with their new passports, am I able to still continue to do online 90-day reporting or do I need to report in person first and then am able to do online again?

Your response would be greatly appreciated as I am hoping to get all of this done in one day and be done as soon as possible so my family can minimize our exposure with this Coronavirus.

  2. My family and I currently are out of Thailand in the US and we currently have an extention of stay in Thailand until Feb 28, 2019. I am working and have a non-B and my husband and children have non-O dependent visas. When we left Thailand, we got a single re-entry permit and my employer in Thailand currently has my work permit. We are currently going to apply for a non-O visa for all of us through a different organization and am wondering if that is possible to do while in the US (our home country) without having to go back into Thailand to cancel it? If so, what are the necessary steps to do this? Thanks in advance.

  3. Thank you so much for your help.  Is there a processional services company you would recommend?  I do speak and read some so I would definitely need help with translation.  I will look into Regus for help with a business address.  Is there an agency you can go through that can help process the visa paperwork for you?

  4. Thank you @blackcab for your response.  We are already living in Thailand and have a steady income from the US as well as able to provide for our kids education here and have international medical insurance as well.  I have a work permit that my family comes under now but if we pursued this, I would like to leave my position and get a work permit through this business.  We are mostly concerned with the business aspect of it all and how it works.  We have no idea where to start with how to pursue opening a business here under that treaty.  Are you able to set up the business as an American and then once you have a business license, then you would be able to then find a location and hire employees?  And once that is accomplished, then you could get work permits if meeting the Thai employee ratio?  This is all totally new to me and I have no idea where to start.

  5. Hi all,

My husband and I (both US citizens) are looking into opening a Japanese jujitsu gym here in Thailand.  I have heard of the Treaty of Amity for American Citizens that allows US citizens to open a company without any Thai shareholders.  I am wondering if someone could refer someone who could help us figure out how this all works.  If we did pursue this, we would require a visa for our family.  I am not sure if we would make this a non-profit business or a for-profit business yet as we are not sure how this all works out here in Thailand.  Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

  6. Thanks for the replies. So no matter what, my husband and kids will have to leave Thailand to change their status? My employer said I can change my status at Chaengwattana but not my family. Is the only way to do it to go outside of Thailand and get them to get an extension of stay with my work documents and change their tourist visa to a non O? Our new single entry tourist visas are good until January 9, 2016 and we can get another 30 day extension at Chaengwattana if needed. Is that not enough time for them to change our documents in the country?

  7. Hi all,

I am wondering if it is possible to change my entire family's (myself, husband and 2 kids) visa status from tourist to non B and O in Thailand? My employer told me they don't think it's possible but I have heard from a couple of different people that it is possible to change it at Chaengwattana. We just went to Laos this past weekend to get a single entry tourist visa good for 60 days since my employer was missing paperwork for us to change our status in Laos and as much as possible I don't want to have to leave again to Laos traveling with 2 young children. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  8. So looks like my family and I will be doing a visa run to Cambodia. Does anyone have experience doing the run themselves instead of using a company? We have our own car but if anyone could tell me the logistics of how this works and where to go and what forms we would need to fill out and if they have it at the border to fill out or if we can print it online before we go. We live in Bangna area and looking for the best way to get to the nearest Cambodian border with the least hassle.

  9. I am not sure if this is even possible but am wondering if there was a way to get a multiple entry visa or if the 6-month tourist visa is solidified if this is an option? I am wondering if my family could change our visas to a multiple entry tourist visa until we go back home to in June 2016 for our summer vacation? My job has not started processing my work permit yet, I have only signed the contract for them to process my paperwork to change my tourist visa to a non-B. Am I legally obligated to stay at this company now or is it possible to just get a tourist visa until we go back in June 2016 and possibly look for another job opportunity?

  10. Thank you for the link. I haven't applied for the certificate yet. My company will work on the papers today. According to their website it takes 30 business days now to process it since July 2015. Do you know if that's really how long it takes or could it be faster?

Also, do you know if it's possible to do a border run to Cambodia and get a 30 day tourist visa or do we need to fly out of the country? We came into Thailand with a 60 day tourist visa we got in the U.S. And then got another 30 day visa at chaengwattana. So is going to Cambodia ok or do we need to fly out?

  11. I am a degree qualified teacher. I have a job here already in Thailand. When we came into the country, the company misunderstood and thought we were coming here on vacation to see if we liked it first so they told us to just get a tourist visa and then would work it out for us. When we got here they realized their mistake so now we have to rectify it. I have all of my paperwork processed and contract so that we can process my work permit, but we need to leave Thailand to change our tourist visa to a non-O for myself and non-B for my family. I am really frustrated as they have made more than one mistake with our paperwork processing and taken so long to do it and now at the last minute this happens. Any advice?

  12. We currently have a tourist visa which we got in the U.S. For 60 day visa and then extended it another 30 days at chaengwattana.

I am a teacher so am going to apply for a non-B visa for myself and a non-O for my husband and kids. The visa company told me they have a new law that just passed a couple of months ago that teachers need to get police clearance in order to apply for a visa.

  13. VISA ADVICE NEEDED!

I am wondering if any of you can help me. My family and I currently hold US passports and have tourist visas right now and cannot extend again as we already did. They are about to expire on Sunday, November 8. If we stay in the country past our visa stamp date, will our kids have to pay the extension fee of 500 baht/day or just myself and my husband? And do they need to have an active visa eventually since they are 6 and 2 years old and born in the US since they already have tourist visas now? Or can they just stay in Thailand without any visas and just have active ones for myself and my husband? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

This is not by my own choice or lack of planning, but the company I work for really messed up on our visas and paperwork. We were supposed to leave for Laos tonight to do our visa run and upon arrival realized that I don't have a police clearance that is supposed to take 2 weeks that the company I work for failed to do. So now I am just trying to figure out our best option.
