So far I have more than 10(maybe 15) new farangs with Gfs from my area. That meens if the aboves are confirmed, we are already more then 40 people.

I'm still waiting for a reply from 6 FC U members. And of course I sincerly hope that more tv members would like to join the gathering?

Marco - do you have any bookings, what about the norwegians - or any others??

Wake up guys and give me a yes, maybe, or no.

Come on - let's get together - make new connections - and have some fun.

  4. Any dates on this Marco/Bergen? If the dates are right I'll be there with the wife.

You got a tour of the temple organised for the next day? How many people can you cover Bergen?

The last get together was 46+ - can you put up 20 couples?

    Thaibites - and others

Marco have asked me to organize next gathering. :o

My (wife's) place Suan Loong Daeng Farm Stay , is a quiet place located in a tropical garden, surrounded by trees and flowers. The restaurant/bar can seat more than 50 people, and in addition extra tables/chairs can be provided if necessary. You do'nt have to worry about loud music, or other distractions as we are completely in charge of the events. We have both Thai and western food on the menu, and various kinds of beverages. :D

I have 5 rooms with aircon, and 3 with fan, (Before Songkhran + 2 more rooms with fan), and I will sponsor all my rooms!!!!! so you stay the night free. I know this will only accommodate 20 grown ups, but for the adventurous ones - mosguitonets and tents can be arranged, and for single guys - I hope you can share room!

In Nam Yun, 13 km away - are a few new shorttime places (transp. to and from can be fixed). I looked at one today with 5 rooms (1 air) price 250/450 - quality = OK. In Khantharalak - 30 min away, there is a nice guesthouse (made by an Aussie), and the The Grand Palace hotel.

For those who want/need to go back home and will not stay over, we can start the gathering early(at lunchtime?),and for those who want to drink - one option is to share a miniwan with driver.

If we start the gathering at lunchtime, we have more time to move around and talk with everyone.

For those who want to go to Khao Phra Wihan next morning, a tour will be organized!

We are fast running out of time in March, so we better find a Friday or Saturday in April.

Comments so far suggests after Songkhran, so what about Saturday 22 to Sunday 23.?

Please give me respons on the dates (and others matters). Marco will also try to make appointment with Tv/radio/magasin, so the inkognito 1s are hereby warned!! And remember - when we've settled the date, rooms go to the first one's booking. FC Ubon members have priority!

Hope 2 hear from you soon! :D

  5. Hello wrongway

Interesting topic, as my wife for months have wanted to build a wood fired oven, to make pizzas and various kinds of bread. I don't know anything about ovens, but I'm happy to see that some do!

I definately have to pay you a visit and take a look at your oven, but maybe you will come and se me first?? Btw - I enjoyed your company and the conversation at the BBQ, and I have your daughters yellow rubber toy (found it on the floor after you left) Keep in touch!! :o

We will arrrive in Ubon around 10 in the morning, and plan to stay at Nevada Grand.

We will fix transport to the BBQ, but would like to be carried back! :D

Maybe se some of you at Polar Bear - Sezzo - and others?

And Marco you probably thought of this already, what about bringing a list, where we all can wright: name - nationality - (age??) - Gf's name - location - phonenr - emailadress - etc?? -

and you post it on forum the day after(or 2 days :D - would be good help for us with short time memory. :D

I am looking forward to seeing you all on Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Trond

  7. Yes Marco I'm from Bergen - the main city in Norway (at least for us Bergeners!) :o

When in Ubon I usually stay at Nevada Grand(1000B), and prefer Singha :D

Same for me where we go as long as transport(tuktuk) is available.

    Trond

  8. Friday 24th is ok with me, misses ???????????

  10. Sorry bergen - a slight mistake on my part, the temple is in Cambodia! Pretty close to you as well!

Day 3 : Khong Jiam - Ubon Rachathani

After breakfast, drive with your guide to Khao Phra Viharn. Khao Phra Viharn Khmer temple complex was started even before Angkor Wat in the heart of Cambodia! Unlike other Khmer Temples, this one has not undergone the restoration efforts of the Fine Arts Department. If Indiana Jones were real, he would have found this place! Walk up steps to graded causeways through awesome "gopuras" and arrive at the extensive but dilapidated center, which is on a cliff-top overlooking the virgin Cambodian countryside. On the way back, stop off for a look at Maw-I-Daeng cliff carvings. These carvings exhibit many similarities to some of the Hindu subject matter at Khao Phra Viharn, but experts disagree exactly which site preceded the other.

Have lunch at a local restaurant, then continue the drive back to Ubon Ratchathani. Visit a number of city sites in Ubon including Wat Thung Sri Muang, built in a very unusual mixture of Thai, Lao & Burmese styles. Also see the National Museum (unless the day is a Tuesday, when the museum is closed). The exhibits here help to put what you have seen over the last days into perspective. This museum is also home to 3 of the most important known inscription stones in Thai history. Your guide will have much local knowledge, so if last minute shopping does not interest you, he/she can take to see a few more cultural attractions before driving to your hotel for overnight and dinner.

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Accommodation: Lai Thong Hotel

Featured Attractions: Khao Phra Viharn Khmer Temple Complex, Maw-I-Daeng Cliff Carvings, Wat Thung Sri Muang, National Museum

It's a 2-3 hour drive from Ubon and there is some walking required to get to the Temple itself but the views are breathtaking!

The day came from a google search and was part of this tour that included the cave paintings -

    http://www.north-by-north-east.com/ISAN/details_ISN007.asp

I hasten to add that I am not part of the company and this was just a google search!

    regarding Khao Phra Viharn

Nice place,, but lot's of steps, been there few times, but watch out that you dont go out from the path as there is still lot's of land mines.

Also entrance,, for thai pay in thai bath foreigner pay 5USD(at least that was b4)

just take time when you going there and enjoy, that is one nice place but not for rush...

    About Khao Phra Wihan

To enter Khao Phra Wihan National Park - farangs have to pay 200bath - thais pay 20 (same in all national parks in Thailand) Then it is 5 bath to cross the border(copy passport) and then farangs have to pay another 200baht on the Cambodian side to enter the temple(sometimes thais have to pay the same, especially if in company with farang. I have been to the top more than 10 times, and in my opinion - it is well worth the money!

It is about 2 hours drive from Ubon, and the walk from the parking area to the top takes about 30 min. Use more time if you're not used to climbing steep stonesteps. The temple/palace is believed to be 300 years older than Angkor Wat, and is built by Kmer kings in dedication to Sri Sikharesvara - Shiva- the supreme being of the mountain.

The top is 657 meters above sea level, and the height of the steep cliff from the top down to the flat land at the foothill in Cambodia is 547 meters. The entire lenght of the sanctuary extends over 800 meters, and the view from the top is breathtaking.

Just a small advise - on the Cambodiam side - do not buy any whisky/cognac/etc - no matter how real it looks - inside the bottles is only Lao Khao with colour!! :o

    Bergen

Regarding park fee..200thb,,, i assument that you have thai driving licence? as i do and every single time i been in any national park i showed that and payed 20 as normal thai fee is, don't know if it's my looks or am i so cute, any how but i heard this from one of the Fin in Pattaya and start to use it abt 6yrs ago and it worked so far, every time,,,,Has any one else experince this kind of phenomenom?

Have they removed that Russina Shikorscky helicopter already from there?

    MarcoH

I have no thai lisence - use my international from Norway - no complaints so far, but doesnt help me when entering national parks. The helecopter is not there anymore.
