Hi Guys I hope someone can answer this.
I want to apply for a work permit and my educational certificate is a Diploma in Business studies which was a 3 year course. But I am not sure that this will be sufficient as it stipulates a Degree as a requirement. Will a Diploma suffice?

Thanks Joe.
I have one other question. When I apply for retirement extension how long does the immigration office hold on to my passport?I have heard it can be between 2 and 3 weeks. Is this correct?

I opened a second Thai bank a/c and transferred 800k from my first Thai bank because the first one had money from language schools and I did not want immigration officers to see my bank book as I do not have work permit.
But now having read somewhere in the forum that the 800k must be imported from abroad will I be ok?I want to change status from tourist to non imm and then apply for retirement extension.Hopefully Ubonjoe or one of the other wise men can help me.

Thanks for all the replies.
I would like to apply for a work permit as I enjoy teaching but unfortunately I only have Diploma in Business studies and not a Degree so I think I do not fill the criteria for applying for a work payment.

I hope I can open new bank account.Last time I tried to have second account in my bank Siam and they refused my request saying I needed work permit.
I just want to try different bank and transfer the 800k from Siam but some of my friends say it is not easy to open a new account now.
Which banks would you recommend?
I stay in Ratchada in Bangkok

I have been working as a part time teacher in a Language school for the past 5 years and like a lot(or most)teachers do not have a work permit.
I want to apply for a retirement extension as I have over 800k in my account. But my worry is will the immigration officers know when they look at my bank passbook and see money going in every month that I have been working?
I don't know what to do.
Any good advice would be most helpful.

I have been using Thookdee International calling cards for the past year and it was cheap to ring Ireland and the Uk(between 2 and 3 baht per minute). Now the cost seems to gone up to about 12 baht per minute.Does anyone know why this has happened and is there any other phone cards I can use and if so where I can buy?
7 11 only stock Thookdee cards.
Thanks for any input.

Hi,I hope someone can help me with regard to applying for retirement extension in CW in Bkk.
I have over 800 k in my bank for about 9 mths and at the moment I have Tourist visa but I want to convert to non immigrant visa. But I am confused as to what non imm visa I can apply for?I have no wife or dependents here,no owned property(I have been renting for 6 yrs),no work permit so which non imm visa is applicable to me?
I have friends who paid an agent over 30k baht to sort it out but I think that is too expensive.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the replies.Last night I got a Thookdee card from 7 11 for 100 bht.Gives me about 75 mins to Ireland which is ok.

Thanks guys.
I will check out some of the 7 11 shops.Somebody told me they have phone cards but in most of the 7 11 shops I go into they cannot speak english and try to give me phone cards which are just for thailand.

For the last few years I have used a sawasdee phone card to make calls back to uk and ireland. For 100 bht I could get over 1 hours call.I could buy this card from many retail outlets but recently I cannot find any places that sell them.
Do any wise people on this forum know where I can buy a sawasdee card or something similar? It is expensive to just phone direct.I use Skype but sometimes I call my elderly mum who does not have a computer or smart phone.

I am a bit of an idiot with regard to visas so I am hoping some wise and thoughtful people can help me with my query.
I am going to Thailand on a single entry visa but I want to apply for retirement visa when I am there.I have been living in Bkk for a few years but up to now I always just availed of the double entry visa and gone back to Ireland every 6 months for a holiday and then returned.
I have 800k in my thai bank a/c,plus I have medical and criminal clearence letters so is it possible that I can apply for retirement visa or do I need non immigrant visa first?
The consulate in Ireland say they only give pension visas and not reirement visas now so I am a bit confused.
