  1. Anyone ever get a Thai criminal background check from abroad?

Is it possible to go to a Thai embassy/consulate in another country and get a criminal background check for Thailand after you have moved away?  Lived there about a decade and moved to a new place in Asia.  One opportunity I have here requires a criminal background check from the last country  I lived..........not holding my breathe... You can apply for a 60 day covid 19 extension at immigration until January 29th at this time

I think this is what I saw in an article on here yesterday........thanks, a lot!  For some reason I thought maybe it only applied to tourists here.  Looks like if I give my notice soon another month will go by putting me at 2 months into the waiting process for spousal visa then with 60 day extension that will be 4 months in the process......cutting it close!  CHEERS!

  3. Are there any options for people who finish their work contract and want to stay a little while?  My school term is ending and I would like to give them 30 days notice (they'll have 40 days to replace me or figure out the schedule before the new term begins). They already know my situation.

I am waiting to get my spousal visa in another country on this side of the world to join my wife in her country.

After finishing an employment contract, I know usually you have 24 hours or a week if you extend to leave the country, but that's not really a practical option now.

I saw recently that "stranded tourists" may have this option for 60 days, but what about someone finishing work?

I could continue to stay with my job as the contract ends in March, but I have no plans to sign a new one and it would put teachers and students in a weird spot as the term ends in May because I would be teaching half a term.  I would rather resign and make it a clean break and wait for my spousal visa to process (suppose to take 1-4 months and it's already been 1 month) than go through all the work of starting a new term for only 2 months only not to re-sign a new contract.

Has anyone finished a contract and been able to get some kind of extension to stay without leaving Thailand?

I don't want to have to leave and do quarantine to visit somewhere like Cambodia then have to do it all again to re-enter...........

Thanks in advance for any advice or sharing your experience

Not sure what you mean with that.

I always get bashed when I tell that I take my passport on domestic trips that include overnight/hotel/flight.

But indeed, after enforcing passport at banks it would be a new level that yo need pp for domestic flights.

I worked at a government school and each year with my WP I would get a government ID with the name of my school on it.  I kept my last 2 from 2 and 3 years ago.

  5. Happy holidays and what better way to start the new year than to ask a question about a new Non Imm B visa.  I am quite familiar with the rule that once you quit or end a contract you got 24 hours to skedaddle (or pay 1900B for a one week extortion). not a typo

The school I taught with (and still technically on paper/contract) is on winter break and I am on very good terms with management. I informed the head of the school before we went on winter break (Dec 19) that I would not be coming back to teach when the term begins the second week of January.

They told me I was a good boy and good employee so HR didn't need to know right away.   Delaying a Change Wattana date until I tell them "officially" then the loathsome HR/farang correspondent and I can make the trip to cancel my papers which would therefore set me scrambling out of the country (or paying a one week extension of stay).....COULD THIS BE AVOIDED?

Ethically, I worked part-time at another university(not my WP/Non ImmB sponsor) who were in need of emergency replacement.......ethically, meaning both employers knew what I was doing.

This uni (which should hold clout as it's seen as the number 1 if not 2 top public uni) will be starting school very soon.  However, they don't want my one year contract to start until February 1.    Other factor is I just came back today after going to Europe for Christmas and did not opt for the 90 day extension so now I am on 30 day extension.......didn't want to bother with paying the money or risking missing time to catch the flight which happened when I went to India last summer.......

If anyone has experienced switching from one job to another ie Non Imm B to Non Imm B without having to leave the country to get a new one (in my past it's always a trip to Vientianne).

Would be great to hear your story or if you're in the know and can drop some advice that'd be much appreciated!

    Thanks a million,

    Mangy

PS.  Not trying to say I deserve special treatment but I am blessed enough to get a job at what most would say is the number 1 public university.........do you think this could grease the wheels?

    Happy 2020

  6. Went to the office in Silom near Chong Nonsi BTS and not happening.......current job only has one year contracts and provides a private insurance.  Last job was goven=rment and had one year contracts......I guess the bottom line was that I have a one year contracted job and a foreign passport so  I no longer qualify............it was good to pursue it before the 6 month period arrived (6 months before the government job's contract expired)....

  7. Ok, 8 days later I went to the PathumThani SS office.  They were nice.  Got there early in my Sunday best and was the 3rd person.  They sent me upstairs.  A Thai friend gave me a message in Thai to show the officer that stated I paid into SS for 3 years with past job and now want to personally continue payments.  I gave them my old SS card, my 2 older government employer identification cards, my current work permit.

The woman was nice and we typed back and forth in google translate.  The translation said, "Can't apply because you are a passports person working in bed"...........hmmm.......  Then she gave me two forms and said my current work needed to fill out the forms.

About 500 baht in taxi fares and tolls and it looks like I will be going back with these forms and a "Yellow house sheet information"- I am guessing that is some kind of document to get from my landlord about my current residence.......

  8. Just wondering if there are any 40+ year old gym rats.......and your experiences with keeping muscle mass.  Did you change your routine?  How did you change it?  Have you found it to be true that you can't go about it the same way as when you were in 20s?

By go about it, I mean train the same muscles together.  I have heard a lot that you can't do "bro workouts", that is, two parts together.......the classic Day 1:  Chest and Triceps   Day 2:  Back and Biceps     Day 3:  Shoulder and Legs.

I know you need more recovery between workouts so I have been doing this "Bro workout" by either taking a day off in between workouts or I might do two days in a row with a day of rest or maybe all 3 with 2 days off...........

I have heard a lot that you need to do either a full upper body workout rest and then do a full lower body workout.......

As a creature of habit a big part of me wants to stay with what I know and that is the 3 body groupings mixed with light cardio and the thought that "something is better than nothing".

Not trying to be totally bulked up just lean........

Anyways, please share any experiences for working out after 40.

    Thanks

  9. I am still waiting to get my work permit from current employer before I go to the PathumThani office with old SS card (what's the deal with WPs?  Some jobs let you keep them once you get them while others keep them under lock and key). As for the "HR" at old job.........crickets chirping.

I'm also waiting for a Thai friend who is a lawyer to call the number I posted from a previous post that is allegedly a SS office in the Silom area of BKK.

Hopefully, today present employer will give me WP and then I will have to bother my friend to call the phone number and ask if I must go to PathumThani or if I can do it down the road in Silom.  Either way, I am going to have to use my only day off to plan for a morning of frustration.

I can't complain though.......I live here and don't speak the language......

  10. Ok, first small step.  New employer gave me the phone number of a social security place that is in the Silom area......02-6340180.  Next step is to get my documents and have a Thai friend call..........In summary, I worked at a government uni for 3 years in PathumThani but live in BKK and social security was deducted from each check.  When I left this job and got a new job nothing was transferred or continued.  The "Farang Affairs" person at the old job has been completely useless from the time before I left until now.  Hoping to avoid a trip to PathumThani............to be continued

  11. Hi, everyone.  I was wondering how one can pay into social security on their own.  I paid into it and had benefits for 3 years until resigning 4 0r 5 months ago.  Can it be done in BKK or would I have to do it in PathumThani since that's where my old job was........the "HR" at my old job has only said that I need to do it on my own but hasn't advised where to go........is it possible to continue paying into it if I haven't since August?  Thanks for any advice.  Cheers.

  12. Thanks everyone for the comments!  Yes, I have the social security ........I believe......I switched jobs 5 months ago.  Previous job I had it for 3 years (social security as well as another because was working at a government uni).  When I left I inquired about continuing my payment but took awhile to get an answer and was finally told to go to an office in PathumThani to see about continuing payments........never bothered with the beauracracy

I will ask the doctor for the results of the test I took a few months ago.

Thanks again for the advice as I continue to look intuit more.

Why don't you just have a lab test for your testosterone levels and inject your self. Testosterone and syringes with 21 or 22 gauge needle is all that's required and are available at most large drug stores in Bangkok. I have been doing it my self for 25 years

So do you also get your estrogen levels tested too? Where?

  14. Hello all, I wrote about this about a year ago but can't find my old post.  Basically, when I was 26 I had testicle cancer and had righty removed.  I am now 42 and feel low motivation and am quite irritable.  Depression runs in my family (dad offed himself two years before I was diagnosed) so I am on some antiDs too but.......chemically, I ain't right.  My diet is generally healthy and I have recently started exercising again (only 3 weeks).  I guess I should emphasize that low motivation isn't low labido (which may be the problem as I am a DIY first thing in the morning and before bed-in addition to relations with my girlfriend........she travels a lot for work.......anyways, that motivation isn't gone)...........I don't know what to make out of having low testosterone but still being sexually motivated.

I took a blood test at a doctor and got test results with all kinds of numbers and names of things with which I don't understand other than the Doctor interpreted to me that I was indeed on the threshold of someone who qualified for treatment.  The place I got tested was a clinic for STDs, work permits, valium prescriptions, vaccinations, etc.

My question is?  Where can I get some injections?  Sure, there is Baumrangrad but I only have the Thai -what I think is minimal coverage......(for example I got hernia surgery and didn't have to pay).........how much do these injections or gels cost?  More importantly, how much would it cost for an appropriate assessment as I know estrogen levels etc play a role, so I assume I would need to be tested as I receive treatment due to being  an above 40 year old "baller"......

In a previous post that someone was nice enough to reply to they mentioned replacements called Enanthate which is a 14 day maintenance program and Undecanoate which is a 2-3 month maintenance program......please, let me know if you have any experience with this.........not just benefits but costs with or without insurance.

Also, I don't know how much of this has to do with being a teacher here.  I guess, not just teaching but the monotony of having the same profession day after day.  I taught back home and have had a good run at teaching here and China in some good paying places but the whole system here and the chemical imbalances of depression and low testosterone numbers is getting intolerable to cope with and I feel I need a chemical boost to give my rose colored glasses a new tint.

Any advice would be great as it pertains to the specifics of hormone therapy.

    Happy 2562!

  15. Got the 30 day extension first on a Friday at Chang Wattana.  Went to the US Embassy the next Tuesday (must book on website, Monday was full when I tried to book the Thursday night before I got 30day extension) and applied for the new passport.  Right then and there they punched two holes in it and gave it to me there.

New procedure as of July 2018 is that you get your new pp mailed to you within 2 weeks (I got mine in the mail 11 days later-live in PhayaThai district).  Along with the passport  comes a letter from the embassy stating it is a new passport and for immigration to please cooperate in transferring visas, entry stamps, yada yada.

I went to immigration with new and old passport and embassy letter.  One copy of new and old pp biodata, one copy of 30 day renewal from old pp.  Took about an hour and 20minutes at CW but would have taken about an hour and ten minutes if this beautiful girl from Laos in front of me didn't have such beautiful eye make-up.  The immigration officer in my line was so impressed that she asked the woman if she could do her make-up.  She stopped working at her desk and brought the Laosy girl to the back of her cubicle where she proceeded to put on eyeliner, eye shadow for ten minutes then she returned to work.  The Laosy girl got her pp back before me even though I saw the same official 15 minutes earlier ????

  16. Hello everyone......what is the best way from BKK to slowly head over  to Vientianne while stopping by a Thai place or two?  Is Nhong Kai a good place?  Meaning is it relaxed with moderate night life (a bar or two ).  If I fly, is Udon Thani the best way to take a van over?  Is UT a good place?  I liked places like Kanchanaburi River Kwai, Ubon Ratchathani, Lopburi, Chiang Rai city center.........any places with a nice vibe like these but not too sleepy for 4-5 days before crossing into Vientianne.   Thanks in advance!

  17. Thanks all......I still have one year and ten months before expiration and I had extra pages put in 5 years ago (a practice they have stopped doing  now according to website) you could only get extra pages put in once.

Got the 30 day extension today and will Renew passport next week.  I will have to get a document from the embassy stating that the extension is in my old passport and show the old passport.......I got the information that it would be punched from the embassy website and since July 2018 all passport renewal are to be received by mail......no more picking it up at the embassy.  They have an onsite post office where you must provide an address and it will be mailed to you.  The whole process takes about 2 weeks.......
