  1. @tonray

last year term (nov-march) i actually arrived in thailand quite late (jan), i thought of easily find a school without farang ajarn where to work for the final 2/3 months, but in fact i didn't find any placement .......and i spent time holidaying. this time i'd like to get to  thailand in time for the term start so as to hopefully get a place somewhere

  2. thnx allane

i'm no targeting any individual school.

i'm trying to get a teaching post for next term, and after some speculative applications i feel that a job will only come at the very last minute

having said that,  i wanna buy my flight at a decent price, i.e. asap

that's why i'm trying to figure out the start date

    thnx again

  3. hi guys

    i've an italian passport
i've entered thailand (tourist purposes) on a 30dd stamp, which expires the 10th february.

the 10th feb i intend to go to KOTA BAHRU, malaysia, and apply for a 2 months tourist visa. because of weekend and holidays i'll probably apply monday the 13th feb.
i understand that it usually takes 2 days, so the 14th or 15th i should be able to return to thailand.

    questions:
what documents/requirements to get tourist visa in KOTA BAHRU?
i understand the visa is free, confirmed?
seeing the recent rules change, do i have to expect problems at consulate or immigration border? (i was last in thailand in july 2016)

any other valuable advice is welcome.

    thanx to all

  4. I find it surprising that they want proof of address. Part of the 90 day non o is possibly to sort out accommodation. Crazy requirement that they would want more than a hotel booking. You could fill in the TM 30 with the friend as the possessor.

that's the reason i, eventually, decided to ask you guys, experts.

i cannot even reach the thai consulate website in vientiane because it's always down, and the only time i managed to access it, everything was in thai!

i'd like to avoid going there and be denied the visa.

i attach a link of a guy who recently applied in vientiane (jacksam, you also replied to that OP). he also attached picx of the docx required, there's a poster clearly stating that proof of address is required.:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/862163-oct-2015-vientiane-first-time-o-retirement-visa-report/

Gio, the poster in the picture in the linked topic does not say "proof". It says that the "Applicant is obliged to provide the address in Thailand.". I would read that as meaning that you have to give a Thai address on the application form. Another poster/document says that you must give the "actual street address". This is probably because in the past people make up addresses or they are incomplete.

I am not saying you shouldn't take POA with you, but I don't recall any reports of anyone rejected because they didn't give proof of address and POA is rarely given as a requirement by the "experts" on this forum. That said it's better to have it if you can. I know you have challenges in that respect but you know what is acceptable.

your first sentence shed a light on why the consulate put up those posters. now it makes sense.

    it seems doable.

    thnx viajero

  5. I didn't know they, Vientiane, issues retirement visa.....merely a non.o 3 months i was told

yesterday i had a friend insisting he obtained a non O-A multiple entry visa in The Netherlands...he did NOT have to leave the country every 90 days but was 'stamped' by NK immigration

I thought he had a retirement visa with the normal 90 day reporting...which he can convert IN Thailand for extension of stay

    Rules change fast it seems.......

You cannot obtain an OA other than in your own country. The op used the word retirement, as many do. The op is obtaining a NON IMM O based on retirement. No changes to rules for oa

    thnx x clarifying

  7. hi all

i understand that as recent as few months ago, when applying for a non-immigrant O visa in vientiane, the consulate has started asking for a "proof of address".

would anybody knows what proof of address are accepted by the consulate?

more specifically, i need to clarify my options for this accommodation: i am going to stay with a friend, and i won't have a contract. he can write me an informal letter stating that i live with him.

any advice if this letter would be enough?

or maybe a certification from my consulate stating where i live?

    thnx x all help

  8. thnx guys

    regarding o-a visa.

i read the thai embassy in rome rules.

i must say what's written is different, at least that's the way i interpret.

@ elviajero, unbonjoe, singerman, you say: you have the equivalent of 800k in your Italian bank account or a 65k income.

the thai website reads like this: you have the equivalent of 800k in your Italian bank account and a 65k income

my interpretation is that both are needed.

    am i right/wrong?

It appears to be an error. It should the 800k baht or 65k baht.

The English version on the website states this.

"2.4 A copy of a bank statements showing a deposit at the amount equal to no less than 800,000 Bath, or an income certificate (an original copy) with a monthly salary of no less than 65,000 Bath, or a deposit account plus a monthly income of no less than 800,000 Bath a year."

If thats what the website says then the website is wrong. The requirement is 800k or 65k or a combination of the two totalling 800k. Definitely not both.

    you are right.

the english version gives no room to misinterpretation.

the italian translation has been poorly written

  10. thank you very much for the replies.

would an income (from my italian bank) of 240.000 bht p/y break any hearts at the notary office of the embassy in thailand, and at the immigration office where i'm supposed to apply?

(i know, it's way below the 800.000 bht p/y threshold. just ask for information)

otherwise, it seems that my only option is the bank transfer.

thank you all guys for your help, and patience

  11. HI

    I'M NEW TO THE FORUM.

I'VE AN ITALIAN PASSPORT, I'M 53 YEARS OLD.

I NEED TO CLARIFY A POINT ABOUT THE “1 YEAR EXTENSION OF STAY”, COMMONLY CALLED “RETIREMENT VISA”.

THIS IS WHAT I UNDERSTOOD ABOUT THE RULES:

THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO OBTAIN IT:

-THROUGH A BANK TRANSFER FROM ABROAD OF AT LEAST 800.000 BHT INTO A THAI BANK.

-THROUGH A LETTER FROM AN ITALIAN BANK, NOTARIZED BY THE ITALIAN EMBASSY, SHOWING..................WHAT EXACTLY?

I FOUND CONFLICTING REPORTS AS TO WHAT THE THAI LAWS REQUIRE.

WOULD YOU PLEASE BE SO KIND TO CLARIFY WHAT THE LAW SAYS?

SOME PERSONS ON RECEIPT OF “1 YEAR EXTENSION OF STAY” TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO PROVE THAT IN ITALY I EITHER HAVE AN INCOME OF AT LEAST 65.000 BHT MONTHLY, OR IN MY ITALIAN BANK I HAVE A TOTAL OF AT LEAST 800.000 BHT.

I SPOKE TO THE ITALIAN EMBASSY AND OTHER CONSULAR SERVICES AROUND THAILAND, THEY ALL TOLD ME THE SAME, WHICH IT'S DIFFERENT FROM WHAT I WAS TOLD BY THESE PERSONS.
ACCORDING TO THE EMBASSIES, IN ORDER TO GET THE "1 YEAR EXTENSION OF STAY" THROUGH A NOTARIZED LETTER AS FINANCIAL PROOF, THAI AUTHORITIES WANT TO KNOW MY INCOME IN ITALY, NOT MY BANK BALANCE. (E.G. IN MY ITALIAN BANK I CAN HAVE A BALANCE OF 1.200.000 BHT, FROM WHICH I GET AN YEARLY INCOME OF 24.000 BHT)

ACCORDINGLY, THE EMBASSY CAN ONLY NOTARIZE A LETTER THAT PROVES MY INCOME, EITHER 65.000 BHT MONTHLY OR 800.000 BHT YEARLY.
CONVERSELY, THEY CANNOT NOTARIZE A LETTER THAT PROVES HOW MUCH MONEY I HAVE IN MY BANK BECAUSE, ACCORDING TO THEM, IT'S USELESS.

WOULD YOU KINDLY TELL ME WHICH ONE IS TRUE?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.
    GIO
