I think it can be assumed with certainty that the editorial tone will change.

Easy to monitor too.Let's see if over the next couple of months there will be several hard hitting attacks on the government.

Whether there was a 'delighted atmosphere' as you claim or not is neither here nor there - there often is in an organization after a reforming "new broom" has been ousted. In any case it depends which journalist or regular correspondent is talking talking. If that was the opinion of the amiable but apolitical Crutchley it would hardly matter. If someone of stature/courage like Alan Dawson openly echoed your view I would have to think again. As for the majority of the Thai "journalists" on the BP, I don't think there is much need to reflect on their integrity, energy, literacy or independence since the record speaks for itself.Pandey's sidelining is the worst example of independent journalism being snuffed out at the BP but not the first eg Voranai Vanijaka.

I hope you've noted the continued anti-junta line in the paper, especially Surasek's column comparing Prayut to Hun Sen the other day

And if you sacked an editor for promoting democracy rather than the Junta party line it would be a smart ( if tiresomely predictable) move to suggest it was mostly about his management deficiencies.

For the umpteenth time it doesn’t work along the lines that the Junta directly censors the media. In the case of the Bangkok Post It doesn’t need to given the sympathies of shareholders and directors.

I know very well how it works.

I also know there was something of a delighted atmosphere among staff after he left.

Read for yourself, see if the editorial tone changes at all.

On the contrary...anyone could see that the Khaosod story was much more detailed and representative of the two sides to this matter. While the "truth" may be as mentioned in the Guardian but Khaosod have presented an alternative hypothesis that could also hold water.

The Guardian piece was based purely on Mr Pandev's Facebook post, which I recommend people read to see his actual level of ability with written English...

    Khaosod actually interviewed some employees.

I've never heard of any censorship being forced upon the BKP editorial staff beyond the regular moans that it, and all papers, receive from the Junta.

If you'd just been sacked for mismanagement, it'd be a smart move to paint it as though you were some kind of crusading martyr...

Never heard of the 68 year old issue.

Bangkok Bank still showing Visa logo debit cards on their website, but they are at the bottom of the offerings.  Union Pay cards are at the top of the list.

Your branch may not have had any Visa debit cards in stock.  But there's also a chance they had them and were simply lying to your face.

Return to the branch, don't get angry, insist on the Visa logo card.  If they attempt to put you off by saying there's a long wait for the card to be made (like 2 weeks), agree to that, and 2 weeks later, trade the UP card for the new Visa logo card.

They basically flat out refused me at two branches. I think they're pretty intent on making the switch.

I got myself a Kasikorn Visa and just use that instead now. The Bangkok Bank UnionPay is just a backup now.

You are probably referring to Mulligans (Irish bar) upstairs in the Buddy? Building. It's the one with the motor cycle collection in the entrance area.

They must have some pretty serious connections to be able to stay open 24 hrs.

    Do they serve alcohol 24h?

There is no such thing as being both government and private.

    It is private.

Some smaller private hospitals agree to take SS. Usually these are ones which are otherwise not doing well.

You have some choice as to hospital under Social Security, though changes are only allowed I think twice a year.

It merits giving some thought to.

But is it any good lol? It's right near where I live.

Look I live 6 hrs from BKK when you find a good and safe hospital stay with it

They know what they are doing I have had five colonoscopies in the last year This one was the least painless, and an earlier two both had me screaming in pain, and another failed to diagnose the results, sedation was Dormicum 5.0MG and Pethadine 25mg both IV

You also need to ensure the preparation is good I had to take the evacuating liquid twice, once the evening before and again on the day of the procedure

My surgeon was DR Chucheep excellent, and a very key part of the procedure

If you want to talk PM me and I will give you my phone number

Thanks sir, I may well PM you once I decide to go ahead with it.

Yes and maybe also the top cancer hospital in thailand, do not dismiss it because government, I doubt you will find better, of course you can spend far more I was even quoted over 50,000batt for the same thing

No, I wouldn't discount it all. I might investigate getting it done there instead.

My government hospital is Kluay Nam Thai.  Not sure how good that one is.

Ninja Edit: What sedation did you get?

I recently had a colonoscopy repeated at Chulalongkorn, with a two shot sedation, all very painless and well under 10,000, including biopsies, they have a clinic there that specialises in this

Was that a government hospital price?  I was recommended to have one, but the Sukhumvit Hospital estimate was 25-30k.

  10. You have to be very careful over here.  Often more so than surroundings seem to imply.

Sadly, pursuing this attack any further probably isn't worth it, but I'm sad, yet again, to see the lack of sympathy that abounds.

Being drunk at 4am in Pattaya (or anywhere, in fact) is hardly uncommon, nor worthy of such scorn. It does, however, leave one somewhat vulnerable, alas.
