With the cost of power here and at my age solar power is a waste of money, look at enitial cost against what you spend on power every month and for me about 10-15 years before start to re-coup money, I'll be dead by then. Lets not forget breakdowns and replacement parts. I had solar in Oz where it was worth the outlay against power costs per month. Here in Thailand not worth it.

I've been looking at the MG SUV's lately. They certainly look smart, but when I read the reviews there are two criticisms that stand out. The first is that they are lacking in safety features compared with the more-established makes, like Toyota or Honda. I'm not sure what safety features they mean, but it's a common criticism and, given how dangerous the roads are here, I tend to class safety features as a top priority. The other criticism is the mediocre performance compared with more-expensive small or medium SUV's, and also noise at high speeds. Personally, I'd view the points about safety as most important, but it's also nice to be able to put your foot down if you want and feel the car respond, not to mention listening to music on the motorways without going deaf. I'd be interested to hear how owners feel about these points.
I own a 2020 ZS x+. no major problems as yet. Running on E20 on average I get about 12ks per litre. Its not a power pack, at my age now its not a priority. Enough for overtaking. I have never had problem with comfort, we have done some long trips without aches and pain, mind you I did fit lambs wool seat covers from Oz, they do make a difference, especially in summer, as vinyal seats make you sweat. Noise level is ok in the cab. Handles ok, missing some safety features, like, adaptive cruise control, front collision warning and lane departure warning. I purchased a Mai 70 dash cam with two of the missing safety features. Mind you if you buy the MG HS. you get these features at a premium cost. No spare wheel or tools, you get a puncture repair kit instead. For piece of mind I bought my own spare and tools. I think 2022 we will see a new model with the missing safety features as standard on higher end model ZS. I purchased my at the right time and got 70,000B of the list price, I could not justify spending 300-400,000 more for a Honda or Toyota for a SUV to get me from point A to B. I cant see the build quality to jusify the extra Barht. One thing I will say is that MG dealerships are not up to speed as I previously had with Honda with servicing. Mind you I am out in the sticks, and the standard of workmanship may differ from big city dealers.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies.. I've owned three vehicles over the years in Thailand, all in my own name, and just wanted to confirm no real reason to put it in a Thai name. I've sold two of them and it wasn't any real hassle.
Stick to car in your name. Best option for piece of mind.

- Let's get rid of the Chinese (Zero dollar tours)
- Let's bring in Pokemon Go' to save us
- Let's bring back the Chinese
- Let's make visas unnecessarily difficult
- Let's bring in the Indians to save us
- Let's close our Island parks
- Let's bring in high dollar tourists
- Let's charge tourists 10x more in parks
- Let's shut down Pattaya and make it all a family resort
- Let's have New Years entertainment
- Let's shut down any entertainment
- Let's make it nearly impossible to buy alcohol
- Let's create a tough list of restrictions and conditions for entry, insurance, and testing, make people pay for it all in advance, then change it every week
Enough! Just quit squirming around with all the useless hype, remove the hurdles, and truly open the country.
Tourists will come, but it has to be easy.
As long as Thais run the TAT your list will only grow longer. They never learn.

Police just busted a party to stop Omicron from spreading and maybe stop people getting sick, Oops, 75 people just died in one day from road carnage. Hmmmm. Am I missing something here.

What a load of cr*p! Proper driver training and making the police actually do their jobs of enforcing the law, instead of dreaming about where the next backhander is coming from, that would help save lives.
Never going to happen, bad karma to upset people with traffic violations.

Several people in SA posting reporting on Dr Campbell's YT blog, all saying omicron is wildly infectious and spreading like wildfire around them but everybody is getting only mildly ill and fully recovering after 2-3 days.
So in other words, just another annual flu. I've got the BS variant with runny nose, better alert the media, I think this one spread quick.

The could buy it with a arrival date in the future and it would go into effect on that day when they enter the country.
The length of validity is another topic for discussion and it is not entirely clear yet.
People have entered with insurance that is less than the permit to stay date they will get from a re-entry permit.
FYI that insurance site has been in use since shortly after the entry restrictions started last year.
This is typical of a Thai quick fix solution with no thought of expats living in Thailand. Same paint different brush.

The larger question is how would Thailand react if an actual military conflict develops between China and the US over a flashpoint like Taiwan. Also impact on western expats especially Americans.

The issuing hospital who gave you the jabs will provide vaccine certificate. 50B. If you want the yellow passport, go to your local Thailand Ministry of Health office. 50B.

Get over it, this is happening all around the world. Nobody wants to travel with restrictions and endless paperwork. Lets not forget, 2 weeks quarantine if you test + from a PCR test.

Just another way of raising revenue from tourists. Next will be on the spot fines for not having your vaccine certificate with you.

Obviously I don't know you but it seems there are many people who live here among Thais without any problems. And there are some people who seem to attract problems. What do you think why that might happen?
Sorry to disagree, my experience with Immigration over the years has not been all roses, it depends on the officers working behind the counter. Staff at my Imm office change every two years, and I have seen some officers have an attitude towards expats here. I do not go out of my way to <deleted> people off. The fact is there are people all over the world who do not like foriengners in there country.

It most certainly was a cut and paste error on the site....but.....it would certainly not surprise me in the least if over the next year or so Thailand does increase the requirements as all they keep saying is they want to attract the well heeled (and in unwritten speak that means forcing out the rest of us by default)
That will mean nobody will retire in Thailand. Thailand is well know for putting the mouth into gear before engaging the brain.

Not every body has the skill set for self installation, so as I said the cost out weighs a return for 10-15 years depending on the system you install.
