OP, what is distressing as much as anything else is that by failing to teach the kids right from wrong, they (parents, teachers, police, governments) are reinforcing the belief that they can grow up and do whatever they like, with little or no consequences. Thousands of times I have witnessed Thai relatives, friends, colleagues, neighbours etc involved in behaviour that in most countries is regarded as anti-social or just plain wrong, yet they have zero, nil, nada sense of shame or regret about it - and that's because they aren't, from the day they are born, taught to reflect* upon their actions.

*Reflect as in understand, or a consequence of reprimand or punishment.

SPOT ON, Not to mention some of the blame goes to their religion, have a read about Buddhism.

  2. Yeah, I am on the verge of giving True the big flick, had trouble with them when we shifted from our old house to the new one 35 Klms away. Went from Fibre Optics back to cable with the move. They are money hungry thieves not to be trusted. Their billing system sucks and most of their staff are not much better.

How is that the moral of the story? Most foreigners who have lived here for more than a decade would be considerably better off in terms of their home currencies if they had transferred all their money and assets into Thailand when they first arrived.

If you can enlighten me to where you would be better of by transferring all your money to Thailand. I personally have not seen any sound investments in Thailand, not unless you have the right connections with under the table dealings with Thailand's biggest infrastructure. "MR CORRUPTION.":stoner:

  4. Morale of the story. Keep your money and assets out of Thailand. Only keep enough here to live on and the odd emergency. For every over priced condo you buy, there are 100 new ones built every month.  All the popular areas in Thailand have been saturated with new condos to the point where a condo more than 5-10 years old has lost ground. Thai real estate does not work the same as your home country. Thais don't like to buy second hand, only new, so most second hand condos are purchased by foreigners.

My thoughts. Take it or leave it.

  5. Same old samo, lets not worry about the condition of the girl, lets check the car is OK, and I see the police are really on the job here, "Yeah I think she's dead from where I am standing" what should I do, call an ambulance and attempt to help the victim, no, best keep out of it in case somebody sues me, and besides I haven't finished writing the fine for that motorcycle rider for not wearing a helmet. Life is cheap in Thailand.

  6. Good article. He didn't mention my pet hate. Entering a persons house, doctors clinic, or whatever, and having to step over or around a mountain of shoes. I am sure some people are brain dead as they can't even read signs. Much the same when I go to a local 7 eleven you have to navigate through a sea of motor bikes parked every where, including the door way.

  7. Building faults in Thailand, there's only one.

The wantabe backyard, no licence, no common sense, no education, former farmer did a two day building course with his nephew who was a shop assistant at 7 eleven turns up to build your house. Oh I nearly forgot, shit loads of cement that sticks everything together.:stoner:

  8. Hi to everyone, OK, I live in the North Eastern part of Thailand, more specifically, Mukdahan. I am trying to source a 600mm stiff bristle yard /garden broom. I have looked everywhere here, Robinsons, Big C, Makro, Tesco Lotus, Global House, Thai Watsado, etc. NO LUCK. Do they exist in Thailand or am I just wasting my time looking.  I can order just the head from the Internet, however, quite expensive, mainly due to postage. Any info would be appreciated.

    Cheers.

Are you in Bkk or Chonburi or other ?

i have similar issue in  being forced to pay in full for a trailer without going to chonburi to do any transfer paperwork

This is not normal. i pay for something on the road that is not even in my name ?

After some thought, I decided not to waste 70-80,000B for a trailer, then have a tow bar fitted for 10-12000B, instead I hunted around for a cheap pick-up, found a 1994 Toyota Mighty X for 130,000B. Clean and tidy and does the job and has some re-sale value, unlike a trailer in Thailand.

  10. I have not lived here that long either, about 2 years now, travelled a bit around Thailand, and generally speaking what I've seen businesses and restaurants come and go everywhere in a short period. The main reason is the average Thais  don't have any business sense, as in, a business plan, market research and a risk analysis. They borrow money from loan sharks and then can't repay it so consequently the whole extended family has bail them out at a cost to their lively hood. Those who survive end up working 7 days a week for peanuts.

My wife admitted to me that in her younger days before I came along, that she tried the same thing, barely lasted six months. She was throwing more food out than she could sell.

If you wife wants a restaurant be prepared to loose everything that you put into it. Look at it as a hobby for your wife.

I have learnt from other farangs here, don't buy into anything in Thailand. If your retired like I am relax and enjoy yourself, socialize, travel, do some gardening or get a hobby.

    My thoughts.
