Also...
When you are having a meeting with a bunch of Thais or simply having a semi formal lunch try asking them before they sit down to please switch OFF their mobile phones..
.....WOT........
You will be seen as something equilivant to the Monster from the Black Lagoon..
They just do things differently from us vivre la......
try that anywhere in the world and I reckon you will get exactly the same reaction

1st came 15 years ago to train as had been doing Muaythai in U.K for a couple of years and wanted to train at a proper camp and see the fights at Lumpini and Ratchadamnern. Came for a month and fell in love with a lot of other things here and have been coming back and forth ever since. Have been here nearly 5 years now and have as many others here have done, got involved with a Thai girl so looks like could be here to stay.

I wouldn't say Phattalung is anything like the unrest provinces. I have only ever found it to be very friendly, though also very quiet. Their is some beautiful scenery there too and it is so far relatively untouched tourism wise

does anyone know what Dengue fever is know as in Thai?
This page http://www.thai-language.com/id/135116 shows it as 'khai saa' but I've always heard it called 'khai leuat awk' (hemorragic fever by this same page).
--Lannig
Thanks Lanning, I was wondering if it was Dengue feaver when Thai's refered to Khai Luat awk

Funny, for example, is that the Land-of-Smile brigade completely blanks the murder statistics, that place Thailand way above every western country, that according to those are far worse regarding crime than Thailand. There is no logic to your argumentation, only wishful thinking.
Out of interest, where do you get these statistics from? And how reliable are they?

There is a dilemma with regards to getting Muay Thai into the Olympics: The name of a sport cannot contain the name of its country. This causes all sorts of debates, particularly among SEA countries which all claim that they invented Muay Thai. Burma, Cambodia and Laos all practice their own forms of Muay and hold fights regularly. Thailand is the only country which has really commercialized this martial art. Kickboxing on the other hand is NOT Muay Thai as it doesn't allow for the same techniques (especially elbow strikes) during contests. Perhaps those in charge of implementing Olympic sports will need to come up with a name for Muay Thai which distinguishes the art but at the same time does not contain "Thai" in the name.
How about American Football (is it even Olympic ??)
the nameis just one small issue regarding the Olympics. What will be harder to overcome is all the political infighting between the two amatuer Muiaythai bodys that has been going on for many years now. Until both sides ditch their politics and egos and decide to work together I can never see it coming even close to being an Olympic sport

thanks for the replys. The main priority is safe parking, though near to the base would be nice.

yes I bought one recently to replace a D70 and there is no movie mode. As a still camera it is awesome and beats the D70 hands down

Want a relatively safe ride on a bike taxi?
Easy, pick a woman driver, or, an old boy.
That isn't always the case, I took one with a women driver in Pattaya once from the bus station and it was the scariest bike taxi ride ive ever had, she was going just as fast as the male ones and even crashed into another bike taxi that a mate was on when we arrived at the destination

Sorry my mistake. Translation error. It was actually "subarus" that got banned or something. I think they are the minbuses that pick up bus customers???
what the Thai's refer to as Subaru's is the small van type ones that run up and down some soi's and usually hold 6 people in the back on bench seats and charge 5 or 6 baht a person, soi 39 has some as does 93, I dont think they have gone either as saw some working off Ramkamhaeng yesterday

I voted other, Live in Bangkok now which I love, but eventually would like to move down to South, my girlfriend is from Phattalung and the countryside is beautiful there and its realitively unspoilt tourism wise.

I think its cute how all these farangs get so up in arms when a Thai kills a white man. Without even questioning the circumstances, automaticaly the Thai is wrong, The Thai man is a coward, a vicious brutal murderous beast...ect ect ect... Chances are if he was a drunk and he did beat his wife, then he had it comming to get stabbed by his wife's dad.
I would stab the guy too if he choked my daughter.
But no...everyone here, it seems, would rather feel sorry for the abuser.
Put the funny-smelling cigarette out and stop taking the silly pills Cpt_M0ney_Sh0t. You've condemned a man based on a "rumour" (to put it loosely) while giving a suspected murderer a medal. Are you really so looney? Here are the facts: 1 dead farang with two stab wounds to the back, 1 arrested father-in-law, 1 picture of a happy looking farang with his baby ....
and what do your so called facts do to prove anything, what does the picture prove or have to do with the incident? so he was happy when it was taken, doesn't mean that the "rumour" isn't true either and vice versa. No one has come up with any more facts yet. Yet the FIL is guilty as charged already

I also hope your happy being put to work by the lazy manager of the place you live in and pay rent on, whilst your at it, the pot plants in the lobby need a good watering and the floors could do with a mop over.
whilst providing the manager with a convenient get out clause if heaven forbid there was a fire and people couldn't escape
"It wasn't me honest it was that Farang on the 4th floor that locked the door"
