METV from Ottawa, Canada.
Hi All,
Just wondering if someone from Canada could give me the step by step process of obtaining the METV? It is effectively good for 9 months correct? I have heard recently that you need a letter of employment (can be your own business in Canada) and $8000 USD in your bank account to show when applying at the Thai embassy, is this true as well? Also can you only get this visa once, or can you get it every year; are there limits as to how many times you can get this visa?
A side note on my status here: I first arrived in November and have been in and out of the country traveling on exempt entries. I recently came back from Indonesia a couple weeks ago and it was my 4th exempt entry stamp...not sure if that matters when applying for the METV within the same year?
Any and all help is much appreciated! Thank you!

I recently went to St.Louis hosptial, between Chong Nonsi and Surasak BTS, for an X-ray and MRI. Was really quick service (apart from the actual MRI, which is a brutal hour or so), cost just over 10,000 baht all up. Not cheap, but if you need one, you can get it same day and the results next day. Hope this helps!

Hi All,
Looking at flying back to Ottawa (or closest airport- Toronto, Montreal) end of the month/start of April. Wondering if anyone knows any good budget airlines/flights I can take out of the country? Only going one-way. Any recommendations? I've heard there are some great business quality seats on some airlines, for economy prices...Many thanks!!

I came over here with it, but stayed longer than I thought and now it's run out. I'm here to play football. Once I sign for a team everything's taken care of. Thanks for your helpful message @Thainess...

Thanks for your quick feedback! I just saw there is a BASEM clinic at the Bangkok Hospital. Has anyone been, or heard about it?

Hi Everyone,
Just wondering where in Bangkok I should go to get an X-Ray done on my knee?
I do not have insurance, so looking to get it done for as low a cost as possible!
Many thanks!

Thanks guys! Think I will do another exempt entry visa run to Cambodia, extend that 30 days, then go for the SETV.
Couple more questions!
1) Better to go for the SETV with an operator or on my own? Just from my experience with the Cambodia visa run it was quite hectic and a bit overwhelming, so was happy it was basically organized for me. Not sure if the SETV would be less or more chaotic? Also are the SETV's more or less guaranteed? Easier process to get in Laos or Malaysia?
2) From now on when I go to immigration, say in 2 months when I'm getting my next visa run (3rd exempt entry) extended 30 days, should I have 20k baht on me?
3) Would this next visa run be considered a "back to back exempt entry"? I did one 2 months ago, got that extended (that extension is up next week) and am looking to go back to Cambodia on another visa run.
Again, thanks very much for your time and help! You guys are awesome!

Thanks everyone for the quick replies! Couple questions:
1) The SETV is good for 60 days, plus the 30 day extension (total 90 days in the country) correct? How long does that process take? What kind of cost am I looking at? Do costs differ between Laos and Malaysia?
2) Since I've done 2 exempt entries so far, with 2 extensions, would I be alright to do that process one more time before I get the SETV??
3) If I do get asked questions about how I'm paying for life over here while a tourist, can't I just tell them I'm using funds I've saved up and using my credit card?
4) The 90 day land border crossing limits in 1 calendar year, does that apply to land borders everywhere or just Cambodia-Thailand? Would I be ok to make another visa run through the same border in Cambodia? Will be my 2nd time.
Thanks again for all your help, much appreciated!!

Hi All,
Just wondering what/if the limit is for the amount of exempt entries you are allowed in a calendar year? I arrived in November and as of now have done 2 exempt entries and 2 thirty day extensions at immigration in BKK. My current stamp from my last visa extension is coming up in just over a week. Is it possible to get a double entry or multiple entry visa without having to go back to my home country? My 2nd exempt entry was a border run to Cambodia. Not too keen on doing that again, but have read conflicting reports/mixed results at immigration in others countries- namely KL, HK and Singapore...any and all help is much appreciated! Thank you very much!

Ok, sounds good. What is the non-B visa?
-
I have not yet extended my current exempt entry stamp by 30 days. I've done that once before on my first exempt entry in Nov. Is there a limit to how many of those I can get in a calendar year? Any idea how much the non immigrant visa costs? Can I not get that at Immigration? Cheers!

How long does that process usually take- applying for the work permit? The reason I ask is because my current exempt entry stamp is up Feb.11...once the club get the work permit for me, do they apply for the non-immigrant visa as well or is that up to me? How much does that cost? What is that process-length/time? Do I get that at the immigration building here in Bangkok? Many thanks!

Thank you for you replies! Do those 1000 baht re-entry permits ever get denied? With the 3800 baht one is there a limit as to how many re-entries you can have per year? Are work permits only valid year to year? Currently I'm just here on my 2nd exempt entry.

Just wondering if I can I leave the country (for my brother's wedding in the U.S. in May) while on a work permit? I'm here to play football, signing with a club next week. I just want to make sure I'm able to leave the country on a work permit. Are you allowed multiple entries? Are work permits valid for one year? Are there different types of work permits? If so, what are the differences? Thank you very much!
-
Thanks guys! @ubonjoe What is the difference between the 30 day visa exempt entry and the visa on arrival? Is there a limit to how many times (or times in a row/between visas) I can enter on the 30 day visa exempt entry?
Thank you very much!

@Swampdonkey what do you mean by, "an additional 7 days to leave the country"?? I would pay 1900 baht and that would only give me 7 more days in the country, or I have to leave the country for 7 days before I come back??
-
So if I were to leave the country and come back, would that be considered a new entry then? If I flew to Singapore or took a bus to Laos, would I be given another 30 day visa upon arrival when I return??

Hi There, am just wondering what the consensus is on getting back to back 30 day extensions? The reason I ask is that while I would like to do the 60 day Tourist Visa, I don't really have 3 free days, as I'm here ultimately to play soccer and preseason trials are starting now. My current visa expires Jan 16 on my Canadian passport. I first came in mid November and got the 30 day visa upon arrival. Then last month I went to the embassy, paid 1900 baht and got that extended 30 days. Could I go and do the same thing, get that 30 day extension from last month extended another 30 days? Thank you!!

Thanks everyone! From reviews I've read, Singapore and KL are out! Also, Oregon would be the visa run of all visa runs haha. Is it always a next day pick up or do you have to wait two days sometimes? Looks like I could potentially do it a bit cheaper on my own (flights/accomodation), but the process seems a bit overwhelming as a first timer, so think I may just go with a visa run company to Laos, even though it's almost 6000 baht! Anyone know of the cheapest/quickest option?? Many thanks!

Hi There,
Am a Canadian wondering about the different options for obtaining a 60 Day Tourist Visa? Does a 90 Day one exist, or is 60 days the most you can get at one time?
Have been looking online and found a visa run company that goes to Cambodia, but it's a 3 night/4 day trip that costs 6800 baht! Surely there are cheaper options?
Any and all help is much appreciated, as my current visa runs out Jan. 16! Thank you!

Hi All,
Just wondering where I would get the best value exchanging Baht-Canadian dollars? Money exchange here in Bangkok, airport here/airport back home, or bank back home?
Also, what is the maximum amount of cash (in baht) I can have on me?
Many thanks!
