  1. What kind of document do I need to travel with my half-Thai children out of Thailand without the mother? I tried to call the local Amphur without any luck so far. I'm not married to their mother but I have joint custody. The kids have double passport.

They already travelled with me without any documents (other then the joint custody paper from the court and the birth certificate) but I was told to get a "letter of consent" from their mother to be safe. Is that the case? TIA

I've no idea honestly I think it's kinda pricey. At that cost you might also consider Wells although unsure they have preschool. Also $$. Maybe wait list.

I know nothing about preschool but I'd urge you to have a look at both Satit Chula and Mater Dei. Amnuay Silpa. I think a good grounding in Thai language and culture 3-4 yrs age might be valuable.

Your daughter is very young so you're thinking a long way out. See that you have the resources to keep her in international schools and on to the west for university. Otherwise, you might want to consider competing for top Thai schools and having her study here (or HKG, China or Japan).

An excellent Thai prathom could set here up for the best middle / high schools and then if she's driven and smart on to Triam Udom, Pathumwan Demonstration or Mahidol Wittayasorn. Sattriwittaya - old, important girls school near Banglamphu.

BTW Mater Dei might be a bit of a princess factory, but it's safe and she'll get attention and love. You can move her on after a few years. If you're a good teacher you might even be able to work there. Maybe they'd give you a discount I think they do.

Oh BTW 2 Sacred Heart Convent has an ok pre and primary. EP primary too but I'd go with Thai primary to grade 4 and move on. Cheapish as schools go but you're way better off at the two aforementioned if you can afford them.

    Sorry if I'm rambling.

My girls are 11 and 7 years old.

There are a few lists floating around. Try and Google them up. I think the best is from 2015 but believe there's one more recent. This is for top 100 Thai secondaries. I think a student website maybe dek-d did the one most recent and in Thai. The HS rankings don't really change. I follow these schools closely as it's related to my job but also a weird little pastime.

There are a few top ten international school lists but based on nothing tangible not even students approval. To my mind there are four tiers of international schools. I know nothing of prathom but think Satit Chula and Mater Dei would be my picks outside international schools. Mater Dei has preschool I think. It's a really lovely, safe environment and welcoming of mixed girls.

I had a friend with kids in elementary at NIST. It's a great school but very expensive. I'm sure their Thai was absolute crap but they were prolly 5 grades ahead of girls at the aforementioned schools.

What do you think of Garden International school?

Any other mid-low tier International school would you recommend?

That is for locally hired TEFL positions at Amnuay Silpa. They have an additional EAL program in the school and I know one of them who is on low 50s per month.

Their fully qualified (PGCE etc) foundation, primary and secondary staff start on 100k++ and are generally all hired from the UK. I know a few other people there through football and the pay scale is very transparent, and being a qualified teacher myself, was something I was interested in seeing and comparing to my own package.

I can 100% guarantee they are not paying their qualified teachers 50k per month.

    That sound very interesting.

I wonder how my kids (11 and 7) would settle there considering they can speak only basic Thai (despite being Luk krueng) as they only studied in UK International schools so far.

Also not that far from Sathorn, which is where I'm currently based.

  5.

    Ok thanks.

Since I’m leaving Thailand next month anyway I will then do the reentry at the airport.

Regarding picking up the extension (form already submitted) do I still have to go early morning and get a queue number? The queue to get the extension is the same one as for the application?

Do I need any other document other then the passport and the updated book bank I was asked?

About to go tomorrow, does anyone knows if I should still go early morning to get the number for pick up the extension or it’s a different (easier) queue?

  6. Once you have the new extension go down the stairs to the photo shop and photo copy the new extension page. The go to the que desk and get a number for Reentry permits. I suggest going on line and registering in the Reentry Permit online application at Immigration web page. This will get you through a lot faster.

  7. Hi,
I’m in the process of picking up my one-year extension based of being the father of 2 thai children next week.
However I’m a bit confused now. Is it still advisable to queue early morning to get a number or can I just walk in anytime.
And when would I get the queue number for the multiple re-entry? Only once I have the year extension? Is it possible to get both number at the same time?
    What is the correct procedure?

    Thank you

  8. Hi,

unfortunately I was denied the one year extension last month when I went in Chaeng Wattana with pretty much all the documents.

They wanted to interview my ex (mother of my 2 9 and 6 years old daughters) and some extra evidence was missing (photos of me and the children in their school, photos outside the condo with the condo name on it, photos in different rooms of the condo and my ex original document signed).

I told the immigration that I still live with my ex, thought it would have make things easier but I realised I made a mistake, since my ex won't go to make the interview now.

My kids aren't living with me (I live in a condo that I bought not too far from where they live). What are my options now?

Can I go there and tell them that they aren't living with me? Would they still be able to give me a 1 year extension or considering the fact they don't live with me I am not entitled anymore?

I have both kids legal custody from the Thai court and all the other documents plus the money in a Thai bank.

  9. The Italian passport satisfies that rule for the airline, outbound from Italy immigration does not care as long the passport is valid for as the passport is valid, and you will use the Italian passport anyway

inbound immigration in Thailand for a Thai citizen does not care even if the Thai passport has expired.

it may be helpful to know which airline you are flying.

    Thai Airways.

The rule is simple.  If you are a citizen of the country you are entering YOU MUST enter that country on its passport, same with exit. i.e A Thai Citizen must enter and exit Thailand on their Thai passport. If you are not a citizen then you can use whatever passport you want.  ie an Aussie with Aussie and UK passports must leave Australia on their Aussie passport but can enter Thailand on either UK or AU.

Its a crime in most countries to use the wrong passport of you are a citizen.

So then I definitely need a new passport. Thanks.

You will probably have to show check-in both passports. It's immigration who shouldn't need to know.

Travelling without Mum it's advisable to have a letter of consent allowing the youngster to leave the country.  Don't show it unless asked but it's good insurance to have in reserve.

I was referring to the immigration.

Anyway my main concern is at the check inn. Thai airways advice me to make a new passport, but I'm pretty confident as well she could fly without making a new one (she enter Italy with an Italian passport anyway, Thai passport won't be used at all if not at the return).

However at the check inn on my return, can the airline ask for a 6 months plus validity Thai passport to travel to Thailand without a visa?

Is the immigration bothered at all with the 6 months validity?

If you can do a PP renewal it cannot hurt.

But, you should have no problem leaving Thailand, only the check-in clerk would need to see her Euro passport to show she could enter Italy.

Do NOT show her Italian passport to the outgoing immigration bod. Rule-1 of multiple passport holders is never show more than one passport to an immigration official (just make sure it's the right one).

    Thanks.

However I'm pretty sure I showed the double passport at the immigration in the past. Reason is because I'm travelling without the mother and they were wondering if I was the real father or not (despite having the same last name).

Once I showed them the Italian passport, they let us go without problems.

Doesn't she need to show her Thai passport as well at the check in being here without a visa?

Could I have some problem on my way back?

Unfortunately I'm not sure her mum would have time to come and sign for a new passport in time prior to our departure.

  13. Hi,

my 9 years old daughter and I will be travelling in Italy next week for a 2 weeks holiday. She hold double passports (Italian/Thai).

I however just realized that her Thai Passport will expire next April 5th.

Technically i should still be in time to make her a new one early next week (last time I made her a Thai passport took an hour at the most in total), but I was wondering, since she'll use her Italian passport in Italy, if she would be allow to fly without making a new one.

I'm afraid not since she would have to show her Thai passport to exit Thailand? or else?

    Thanks

  14. To keep an "extension" alive, you need to purchase a re-entry permit.  Single re-entry permits are 1000 Baht.  A multiple re-entry permit is 3800 baht.  You can purchase one at the immigration office just after receiving your extension, to avoid having to worry about it at the airport.

Failure to get a re-entry permit would end your extension, as soon as you left the country.

Ah ok so the re-entry need to be purchased after the extension has been approved and not once I submit the documents.
    Thanks!
